Notes

This sliver deck is something I've carried about since the days when I was really into Magic, and I just loved the mechanisms that they came up with for these creatures. It made them pretty nasty when you paired them up with each other, and make dual-color decks back in the day pretty nasty, but it was terribly difficult to put together a five color deck with the best of the bunch. Fortunately, I had some older dual lands, and pain lands, and slowly branched out into picking up more multi-color mana sources. I've got 4 Mox Diamonds laying about, but I'm not sure if I want to return to that version of the deck again. At one time I had Birds of Paradise running in here with my slivers, but Gemhide came along and knocked them from the deck, and as I tinker about with the newer slivers, I'm still looking to iron out which ones will stay, and which ones will go, when I finally trim this thing down to 60. When I first played this deck, the goal was always to just rush out Crystalline, sometimes first turn, and then just ramp up my creature base, but with more and more options, I feel like that might not always be the best goal. Once I started picking boxes up again, and added things like the heartstone + queen + mana echoes loop to the deck, I thought perhaps it had gotten out of control, or was relying too heavily on the combo itself to win. After all, earlier tweaks of this deck had not only non-slivers in it, but things like counterspells to make sure I had a little control of the field as well. And that's why I've really liked the deck as a whole: With some decks, it becomes about replacing the weakest performers with newer, better performers (In the case of soldiers, elves, wizards, devils/vampires/angels, and the like) or for others, it is a specific goal that doesn't change, you reach that particular card combo and win, or you lose trying. With this sliver deck, its always been about what way do I want to attack my opponent. Do I want to keep something in there to wipe the board, or keep spells out of my opponent's hand? Simply tossing certain creatures out is enough to change how I can attack my opponent, so most of the decisions are based around how best to protect a plan in motion.

Most of my trading on this site is aimed at getting this deck really finished off, and while I don't really play much Magic these days (I haven't played a game with my own cards since 03-04...), this deck is still just a fun little thing that I love to tinker with now and then. Even if I never get to really play it again, I still feel like this is my best connection to the game I used to enjoy sitting around playing with friends (even if some of them really hated me for playing it). I'm not even sure just how viable slivers themselves are compared to other creature types nowadays, after being out of the game itself for so long. I'm not really concerned about that, I just want to play around a bit with what I've got.
