Consider cards such as Blood Artist and Blood Seeker. The pain can become significant. With blue, Psychic Spiral can keep you in the game.

I know this takes an extra step, but can't one simply copy the card lists from the WotC site and paste them into the box to add cards by list?

I have a pretty simple folder tree for decks, but given the sheer number of decks I am listing here, some folders get pretty full. Moving from one folder to another, such as when a deck goes from one of the "Unplayed" sub-folders to one of the "Played" sub-folders, requires some work to drag the file past dozens of others to where another open folder is waiting.

Even if this were only to work at the top level, it would place the deck at the bottom of the hierarchy for the moment and allow it to be sorted down through the tree.

That is a lot of cards. I have a couple of general pointers.

Learn discipline. Almost all of us build early decks with more than 60 cards. I have been hard pressed to justify that mathematically in a really long time, myself. Any modern spreadsheet program will contain a hypergeometric distribution function. Learn how it works and watch what happens to probabilities when the total population increases beyond 60, and you are limited to just four copies of anything but basic lands (and a couple of rare exceptions).

Evaluate. Not all cards are equal, even in the same spot on your mana curve. Are Hagra Diabolists truly worth twice as many spots in this deck as Hero of Goma Fada? What role does Tithe Drinker, a non-ally, play in this ally deck, especially at a 2-spot crowded with creatures?

Respect the mana curve. Consider that you are going to be drawing a card every turn, with some variation (not always under your control). Can you get to what you need when you need it? If your curve is fairly flat, as this one is, you that will have a linear ramp through five turns. If you have to spend a turn or lose life, that can be a lost tempo, so you might need around 24 land for this deck once you pare it to 60. Deckbox displays the curve above the card list, though it does not differentiate between various card types within the curve (stacked bar graph could be cool, no?).

Focus. You look to have taken a lot of allies to have a lot of allies. That's fine. We all start there, which is how we start out making decks of more than 60 cards (see above). But ask yourself this: of all of these allies' abilities, which are most important to you, and when do you need them? If something is there to be an ally, but not really much more, why take it? If 80% of your other creatures are better than one you have in mind for this deck, and you need to cut creatures (without blowing your curve badly), cut away.

The only time I even designed a B/W ally deck was mid-2010. I have the link to it below, but it only played four games, and lost three (including two where it just plain stalled against others that looked aggro by comparison). You can see what I did, and maybe think where I might have come up short. It is located in my folders under Played->2-star->F. The last folder is the grade it's winning percentage would be in a traditional American classroom. Not good.

Is there any data more detailed in the file than card title and owned count? If not, just use a table-delimited list with [#][tab][title], one card per line. Select "Add From Card List" and paste your data in. Done!

This has to be one of the more promising features I have seen you propose, which is no dig on others. I often spend little time browsing other people's profiles for inspirations because so many things are simply lists of cards, not intended for play. I would ask this, though: will this only work for decks that are listed as completed decks (premium feature), or for anything? Also, will it be possible to filter results based upon format, deck size, etc.?

Would love to see the Pauper format supported!

For anyone who builds decks here, it would be more useful to have format filtering, I should think.

I'd rather not have to manually set the card number on each and every row in that CSV, I might as well just add each card individually at that point.  Either way, even manually adding Meren while having the default edition set to CMA doesn't seem to be working, either.

Depending on your comfort level with this, you could use Excel to solve the issue in under 10 minutes. You need two worksheets, with on holding your csv data as currently constituted. Go to a source that has the card name and card number data for the set and import that into a second worksheet. From there, create a new column in the first worksheet and populate it with vlookup() calculations that use the card name as a key to pull the corresponding card number over. If you then want to stabilize the data, copy the looked up values and paste values over them, replacing the formula with the actual values they pulled in.

Export to csv again, and you're all set.

Is there a way to enter the kaladesh Planeswalker decks without entering each individual card?

Unfortunately, at this time there isn't. I actually posted a feature request for this very thing.

If you would be willing to help me with the basic lands for the deck (since I probably won't buy the decks myself), then I'd be willing to create a CSV file for you. Once created, all you'll have to do is import the file, and the full deck will be added to your inventory.

What I mean by help is, please count how many of each specific collector number there is for each basic land. That is, I know there are 11x Mountain in the Chandra deck. But how many of those 11 are Mountain # 259, # 260, and # 261? And do all the basic lands have the Kaladesh expansion symbol, or do the decks contain any other expansion's basic lands?

Let me know, and I'll get it done tomorrow.

The card lists are available online, and those should be easy to import in tab-delimited form using Import From List. Splitting a single deck's different collector numbers once that is done should be the work of 60 seconds.

The simplest way to print anything tabular such as this is to copy all rows and columns, then paste the result into a spreadsheet. Images do not get picked up, but you will have sequence numbers and names.

As noted in the description, this is a group for those local to or passing through the Puget Sound region. I don't put specific geographic boundaries on that, and I am fine with members who wish to peer in as well. As one who has played since before The Dark, but not been exactly current the last few years, I am prone to Vintage and Legacy decks. That is the other focus of this group: people playing or wishing to play against such decks.

Please feel free to share ideas, offer critiques, and arrange games. If we get the member count up and people want it, I will happily arrange local games. Cafe Mox (Ballard), The Mox Boarding House (Bellevue), Around the Table (Lynnwood), and The AFK Tavern (Everett) are all good places to gather and play (R.I.P. AFK in Renton), and I would be open to other suggestions.

It might just be because it's past midnight, but I completely failed to properly parse this sentence the first time through and had to reread to the post to figure who would be notified when a user was reported.  I think a comma is too weak here.  A clearer rewrite could be

The message you submit will be sent to us; neither the target user nor anyone else will see it.

I hope I'm not coming across as pedantic!  I just think it would be nice to make clear that users will not know who is reporting them or that they have been reported so people can report others without fear of reprisal (unless they're abusing the system).

You are quite correct about its being a comma splice (yes, "its" is correct, for anyone wondering, as it is a possessive before a gerund). Comma splices happen, however, and when they do the initial confusion you had can be widespread. I have my BA and MA in English, and I had to read the sentence twice for the same reason.

Pedantic? Yes, but as a fellow pedant and one who appreciates your having commented on it before I got around to it, I've got your back on this one. You were quite kind in how you mentioned it, too. I expect Sebi will take it in the light it was intended.

Why not have the individual users set profile parameters so the person on the other end can see what will and will not be accepted? Right now, this sort of thing is all laid out (when it is laid out at all) in profiles.

I get the bit about new-to-new trades, mind you, as that can be an issue for all kinds of reasons.

I would also suggest that idle time prior to an email address change, or perhaps any email address change, might put some measure of restriction onto the account until a means of verifying that the original owner still controls the account.

Nothing will be 100%, however.

My biggest concern here is creatures. You have no mana acceleration of any kind, yet only 11 creatures below the 4-spot, and of those, only the Reflector Mage really gives a benefit beyond being a base creature (until you have more mana or can equip creatures and have them die). I would look for more creature value early, whether beefier things or those with more immediate or less expensive abilities. You need to be able to last until you can make use of your creatures, since there is no other way to defeat an opponent with the deck.

I am curious what information would be necessary for such a benefit to you. I can see many benefits in this as well, quite frankly. Obviously the cost (complete, rather than just converted), power, toughness, and color info would have to be included. But what about (printed and/or Oracle) card text?

I use a home-brew database myself, and it does quite a number things that deckbox currently doesn't match, many of which may be of limited use to most people here, but that are exceptionally valuable to me (game tracking and deck rating allow me to predict with some accuracy the probable success of decks going forward; more detailed search capabilities, including the capacity to search rulings, let me find exactly what I need; etc.).

I would also find such a feature an enticement to consider premium membership, though I would warn that it should only be available to people who purchase a full year, as otherwise people would buy a month, grab it all, and go.

The second link is not working only because the link itself is missing the apostrophe, though it appears correctly in the linked text.

I will say, here in my first post after more than two years on the site, that every point you make is valid. However, I would caution those more sensitive readers that some of the questions are contingent on others. Also, I would add a point to the ideal opening hand: a solid opening hand (x land, y creatures, engaging z elements of the deck's strategy.

Deckbox is my back-up (I use a home-brew database that does everything I like about this site, and more, without those I don't need), though now I think I may contribute to these boards too. It looks as if there is going to be some good meat for me to dive into over the summer.

For any interested Filemaker Pro users, I have a database for deck design and one for gameplay (recording games). The former has to be populated by you, as I cannot go putting card images and text and such out there, but it will track many of the same things as this site, though I do not propose it as a replacement. It includes iPhone (Filemaker Go optimized for 4 and 4S) and iPad (Filemaker Go) versions as well.

The latter can be a little tougher to work with in the version I would distribute, but it holds decks, contents, versions (for slight changes where you wish to keep the name) and a lot of statistical breakdown of outcomes. You can track all kinds of information easily, including how decks stack up against one another when divided by time. I do this last part by a Power Rating, which factors in the toughness of each opposing deck, not including the specific game, and produces a value between 0 and 1000, which is then averaged across all games the deck has played.

I am happy to send these out to folks as a complement to the rather nice features available here.

While the land suggestion tool is kinda cool, I find it does little when using hybrids. I will make 1- and 2-color (by land) decks than have 3 or more colors represented in symbols. It would be nice to be able to exclude a color that only appears in hybrid symbols.

On that, I modified a spreadsheet I found that takes the deck size, number of land, and number needed by a specified turn. With that, it suggests the number of land that would be appropriate to have the optimal chance of drawing that way (let's face it: 24 is a bit rich for a lot of decks). My version averages the numbers for going first or second in a duel, so it effectively is a first-turn holding, as the second player has 8 cards on turn one.
