Notes

I thought Gatecrash’s Master Biomancer was going to be an impactful card in Standard but that has not panned out. The mythic rare looks powerful but it was not good enough to dislodge other cards in top decks. However, with the addition of Dragon’s Maze, that could change.
Progenitor Mimic is a card advantage machine that combos very well with Master Biomancer. The Clone-type creature from the new card set is great because having multiple Master Biomancers on the board is pretty insane.
For example, you have one Master Biomancer on the board. You copy it with Progenitor Mimic. The copy enters the battlefield as a 4/6 with two +1/+1 counters. Then, the abilities of both Master Biomancers will stack so any creature you cast will gain six +1/+1 counters. That’s a huge buff.
You don’t even have to play a creature because Progenitor Mimic gives you another copy of Master Biomancer every turn. The third copy will be an 8/10 giant. The fourth copy will be a massive 16/18 creature with 14 +1/+1 counters!
Here is a Red/Blue/Green (RUG) Midrange deck with 3 Progenitor Mimic and 3 Master Biomancer. The deck got top eight two days ago in the Starcitygames Standard Open in Dallas. It was played by Aaron Alldredge.

Any deck with a creature like Progenitor Mimic should have a bunch of creatures worth copying. Along with Master Biomancer, this deck has prime creatures to copy with Huntmaster of the Fells, Thragtusk, and Thundermaw Hellkite.
These three creatures are great because they give you a lot of value right away. Huntmaster of the Fells gives you lifegain and multiple creatures. Thragtusk gives you more lifegain and when it dies, you get a decent sized Beast. Thundermaw Hellkite attacks right away in the air for five while killing Spirit tokens from Lingering Souls.
In some situations, you might even want to copy Izzet Staticaster with Progenitor Mimic. For instance, you’re facing down a bunch of 2/2 vigilant Spirit tokens buffed up by Intangible Virtue. By copying Izzet Staticaster, you can machine gun all of those flyers to death.
Progenitor Mimic costs six mana and there are six cards that cost five mana. With all these cards that have high casting costs, you definitely want a lot of lands and ramp cards. This deck has 25 lands and eight ramp cards (including the 2 Ral Zarek) so you shouldn’t have problems casting the expensive cards in most games.
Note that this deck has the Nightshade Peddler and Izzet Staticaster combo. This combo is one of the best ones for red/blue/green decks because it dominates creatures decks by giving you a permanent source of creature removal with the deathtouch + ping abilities.
Izzet Staticaster also interacts well with Ral Zarek and Turn // Burn. The Izzet planeswalker untaps her so you can use her ping ability again in the same turn. Turn // Burn turns creatures into 0/1s so that they die to one ping.
Master Biomancer is great with Progenitor Mimic but if you don’t draw the Clone creature, there are other creatures that are pretty good with the 2/4 Elf Wizard. With Master Biomancer on the board, Huntmaster of the Fells becomes an eight power four mana creature split over two 4/4 bodies. Thragtusk enters as a 7/5 and when it dies, the Beast token enters as a 5/5.
Izzet Staticaster gets buffed to 2/5, which makes her a good anti-aggro blocker and she gets out of Searing Spear range. Of course, you can draw a second Master Biomancer and just go to town with multiple copies. Even if your next play is the lowly Arbor Elf, he will enter as a 7/7.
