I know this is a bit off-topic for a trading board, but I wanted to get a general consensus from you good folks about the Boros and Orzhova cards that WotC and other sources (Gathering Magic and TCG) have been revealing from Gatecrash. It really seems to me that Dimir and Simic are going to be the game-changer and dominating cards in the set. As someone who plays primarily white, red, and black, I'm a bit worried that my favorite guilds may be short-changed. Both battalion and extort are great mechanics, but the cards previewed so far, especially in Boros, are making me wonder whether they can keep up with BUG and Bant control.

Am I missing something obvious? What do you see as the hidden gems so far?

Thank you for your guidance and expertise.

dont worry. there will be enough cards and synergy to execute your game plan. It may mean adding an additional color, but B<W<R is not to betaken for granted in gatecrash. just come up with a scheme and dont worry about what the pros do or dont say (ie remember squadron hawk?).

This is from a B<W<R player myself :D

I appreciate the support, folks!

Dakkon4444, I got back into MTG after Squadron Hawk, so I'm not sure how that changed the (meta)game. Glad to find another BWR player. :-)

As always, it will depend on the metagame of your LGS / wherever you play as to how and when decks can see success. I'd tend to lean towards the intent of the Battalion mechanic trying to balance out the life gain Garuda mentioned (assuming Bant control with Thragtusk and/or Sphinx's Revelation are your worry). Especially the cards that grant double strike.

If you're a B/W/R player, are you thinking about combining a B/W tokens build with some game changers like Aurelia? Sounds fun, if anything else!

Obzedat and the new Gideon look pretty darn solid, but the sleeper is going to be Frontline Medic with all of the white flying around. It's even splashable since it's one W / 2 C

Or make the RWb token deck with lingering souls and hellrider, and pray you don't run into a hellkite.

I've tended to lean towards either straight-up W, WR humans, or WB token mixes, but your idea intrigues me quite a bit. :-)

Yes, I saw Frontline Medic this morning and my worries from yesterday started to melt away instantly. The counter for X costed spells will be quite the insurance policy from Revelation, Bonfire, Entreat, plus those new, nasty Simic cards.
