Transitioning from Standard to Modern Zombie Pod

I'm looking for suggestions on what I can use to replace the Gloom Surgeons and Phyrexian Metamorphs. I often find my hand bloated due to these cards. The Gloom Surgeon ends up being fuel for my pod to generate a Geralf's Messenger, and the Metamorph turns into another potential Blood Artist 90% of the time, which (for me) doesn't justify the life cost to hard cast it.

I'm considering Dregscape Zombies, Bloodthrone Vampires, Mortarpods, or more Perilous Myrs to replace the Gloom Surgeons. I find the Myrs and Mortarpods to be particularly effective, though they are the only two cards I have any experience with.

I'm not sure what to do with the Metamorphs, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
