Sideboard
Notes
Sideboarding: Claustrophobia, Erdwal Ripper/Crossway Vampire/Hinterland Hermit/Pitchburn Devils (was cutting down on red - sided out too many creatures!), Geistflame,
Sightless Ghoul (started in MD, didn't see non-blocking clause), Blazing Torch, Sensory Deprivation, Tragic Slip, Burning Oil, Headless Skaab (also considered but never sided: Smite the Monstrous, Sudden Disappearance Probably should have included/considered more: Splinterfright+a few green creatures+Tracker's Instincts instead of the red stuff (thought it would be counter to Ruinator, but it does feed the gy), Skaab Goliath/Headless (again thought it would be too demanding of my gy, but probably wouldn't), Ghoulcaller's Bell, white flyers? R1 W-L-L vs a RB deck with Markov Warlord, Hanweir Watchkeep, Pyreheart Wolf, Stromkirk Captain+vamps, and Forge Devil. A guy who just started playing a week ago. He also had Grimgrin and the zombie captain! I told him to put those in but he didn't have time. G1: I got lots of recursive milling going (I think I cast Chill of Foreboding 4 times?). Got Skaab out and took care of things. G2: I kept milling myself, but wasn't able to get much out on the board. Turns out the Skaab was on the very bottom. G3: An interesting one? All I have is me 20-15-7 and him 20-17-6 so I can't quite remember. I know I cloned his transformed Hanweir. Other than that I'm not sure. All I know is we were stalled but finally both had a strong board in the final 5 turns. I swung for 11 on the third turn and had a blocker back, but he played Death's Caress on turn 4 and swung for the win. R2 W-W vs a BG deck with Gravecrawler, Ghoultree and Falkenrath Torturer. Both very tight and fun games. G1: He had a torturer out with a counter, a GC rig, and ?. I was able to clone his Torturer, and I think he missed that my captain gave my vampires first strike. Don't remember many other details (I know Flayer+Nearheath came out at some point), just that his aggressive deck got me to 4 quite early but I held on by the seat of my pants to win. (Attacked him for 13 one turn!) G2: He got out Ghoultree but I cloned it, we traded them, I got out Ruinator and was able to hold on for the win. R3 L-W- out of time vs a UW deck with Soul Seizer, lots of annoying (and some janky) enchantments and other spells (Spectral Flight, Curse of Exhaustion, Chant of the Skifsang), which a UR deck like mine had no answers for. Apparently he was also maindecking Paraselene - wtf? G1: he kept stalling and stalling. I finally got my Ruinator out, but it first got Feeling of Dreaded, then Soul-Seized. It was a quick death after that. G2: another long game. My ruinator was -13/0ed, he kept bouncing things with 2 Silent Departures, and Curse of Exhaustion had me slowed down. However, I eventually got out a few vampires and the captain. We ended up finishing the game with 2 minutes left, so we called it a draw. At first, he actually forgot and thought I had won both?! Maybe I should have just let him - douche move? R4 L-L to WB aggro deck. Nothing too bomby, just was fast enough, had enough removal, and was played smartly enough to deal with my slow deck. Also, I think by this point I had sided out too many creatures for my deck to work very well, but hadn't really realized it. Made a big misplay when I didn't use a Geistflame to kill his Skirsdag Flayer before attacking with my Flayer. I also realized I probably should have had Blazing Torch in my MD, since I once again forgot it could shock a player, and it's not-often used anti-blocking clause. R5 W-L-W vs an GRB deck with predator ooze, elbrus blade, immerwolf + werewolves, double wild hunger ... G1: got to use my combo? G2: Dealt with the ooze, but Immerwolf + wolves got through, with the help of Wild Hunger G3: was almost getting to time. He had a transformed Ulvenwald Mystics which i had -3/0ed, equipped with Elbrus. Earlier I was able to clone my Flayer. He had a Ulvenwald Mystics with Elbrus on it. However he only got it transformed the turn before I killed him. overall: 2-2-1 Deck VIPs: Evil Twin, Skaab Ruinator, Mystic Retrieval, Dream Twist (cheap self-milling), Stromkirk? Disappointments: Stormbound Geist (didn't see it much), double-red vamps, Tragic Slip Memorable plays: cloning the Ghoultree, , pulling off the Flayer-Ruinator combo ('you take 5'), having a cloned Flayer and being able to double attack for the win (if blocked would both have undying and he'd take 10+ damage anyway), having just enough in my graveyard multiple times for my Ruinator.
