Went out to my LGS last night and met the weekly group. I had a ton of fun, but got totally blown out in most of my games. This is fine, since I mostly just went to introduce myself and get an idea of the kinds of decks that people run, but I can see it getting old really fast if I keep bringing weak decks.

I built it this morning, and was hoping I could get some input on it.

Mono-Red Aggro/Burn

Creatures

Bloodfire Expert x3
Borderland Marauder x 4
Flamespeaker Adept
Frenzied Goblin
Minotaur Skullcleaver x2
Sigiled Skink x2
Soul of Shandalar
Valley Dasher x3
War-Name Aspirant x3

Instants

Fiery Fall x2
Lightning Strike x4
Magma Jet
Magma Spray x2
Rouse the Mob
Searing Blood
Shock
Trumpet Blast x2

Sorceries

Arrow Storm x2
Bolt of Keranos x2
Lava Axe x2

Enchantments

Dragon Grip x2

Lands

Ghitu Encampment
Mountain x17

The idea is to either use the creatures as a meat shield while burning their life points away with the spells, or to overrun the board with cheap, heavy hitting dudes early on and use the spells for removal. If the latter is the case, there's also some Synergy with all the spells and the Bloodfire Experts and the Flamespeaker Adept. I would love to add in some more Magma Jets and Bolts for extra synergy and more removal/burn, but I don't have any more to add, =/

I would really like some input on this deck; it looks pretty strong, but I'm not very well acquainted with some of the intricacies of the game yet.

Thanks in advance, =)

Also, is this for Standard?? I don't think Ghitu Encampment or Fiery Fall are Standard legal.

So, just a few pointers. For being an Aggro styled deck you may have too many 3 cmc cards going on. Especially with the creatures you want to play alot of the very fast. I think most creature based aggro decks run 16-20 -ish 1 cmc creatures with the rest being pump and burn. Overload the board and kill them or cripple them before 4th turn is your goal. If you stick to this strategy then 18 lands is good.

Also getting 4 of each card is a must. You need to be able to reliable draw those cards when you need them. Only have one of two of a card for specific reasons.

I would also say to just drop Dragon Grip. It will be hard for you to get the ferocious ability from it. I do have some more but I'm on mobile so it is hard for me to type stuff out. I'll try to come back later and edit this but i am sorry to say, over all this deck still does not seem like it would do that well.

Based on the cards you've included in your list, I would advise definitely sticking to standard for the time being. Modern, as a whole, due to the higher price tag for entry is more likely to feature net-decks and the like, which will make it far less amusing for you to brew your own build to go play (odds are you will get blown out... a LOT).

If you go standard you'll likely have much less money to drop to make a moderately playable deck (take a look at boss sleigh and U/W Heroic for cheap(er) decks that are doing well these days). I even know a guy with a mono-red heroic deck that does alright which, as a whole, would run like $20-30 to build.
