Re: My First Ever Competitive Deck(STD) (7 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)
You play multiple spells that cost 2 of the same color on turn 3 and 4, my suggestion was to get the shock/buddy lands so you can have 2 of each color on turn 3 so you dont have a problem casting a specific color.
Sanguine bond does the same thing as vizkopa guild mage, thats why you need less sanguine and more exquisite blood if you want to hit the combo. Vizkopa and High Priest are inexpensive so i'd get them for this deck.
As for blocking, you will be blocking quite often. With the speed of some of theses decks you will likely have to block multiple creatures a turn and thats where having them come back as zombies allows you to protect your guildmage win condtion. Xathrid really is a good fit in this deck as it dodges mass removal, i.e. supreme verdict.
I did see the angelic accord/bubbling cauldren combo, it also works well with Xathrid as it will ensure that you have creatures for you to sac. Unfortunately you can't do that during your turn and at the end of theirs ad the cauldren has to tap.
My only comment is that in standard a consistent deck wins a lot more often. Standard decks typically focus on having 3 or 4 of each card in the deck. Playing multiple "possible" combos does, in theory, give you more win conditions, but it usually has an adverse affect. More combos with a lower likelihood loses to fewer combos with a greater likelihood.
For example: if you have two combos with each being 35% likely or 3 combos with each 20% likely which one wins?
The reason why I'm against it is because you need: Angelic Accord + Bubbling Cauldren + Creature + Sanguine Bond
Where as your other options are Vizkopa Guildmage + Exquisite Blood (or Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood)
I just feel more comfortable going for a 2 card combo over a 4 card combo/
The earliest your deck can win is turn 6. You will have atleast 3 mana at this point to activate Guildmage
Here is your optimal play:
T1: Newt or Soulmender
T2: High Priest/Guildmage
T3: Removal/3rd Creature
T4: Tutor for Enquisite Blood
T5: Cast Exquisite Blood
T6: Activate Guildmage or Play Sanguine Bond
Edit: Didn't expect that I'd have to mention that this does not have a phenomenal likelihood. Assumming your opponent does nothing it's between a 1:7 and 1:8.
Also, as I said before I'm just working with your original deck goal.

Re: My First Ever Competitive Deck(STD) (7 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)
A rather interesting budget deck, I'm really tempted to play it at my LGS just to hit the combo once.
Just a few personal remarks:
I prefer sign in blood over underworld connections.
Add more vizkopa guildmage as it does the same thing as sanguin bond.
Remove 2 sanguine bonds for 2 exquisite blood.
You have multiple plays that require WW or BB T3-T4. You may want to invest in godless shrines (Isolated Chapels potentially as well). Lands that count as B or W really help prevent being mana screwed.
Remove Angelic Accord In favor of more high preist of penance or vampire nighthawk.
Honestly I don't know if I like Indistructibility. (Seems like good Sideboard if they bring in enchantment hate)
You may want to play xathrid necromancer. You have a humans deck.
Overall Here are my changes:
http://deckbox.org/sets/436550
LMK what you think.
Edit: My suggestions aim to keep your current goal and to restructure it to be more stable and conistent which makes it, in turn, more competitive. That being said, you can scrap the whole list as suggested below and make a RWB Midrange or Junk Combo deck that already exists and be extremely competitive, just depends if you want to throw upwards of $200 (or trades) into making that work.

Hey All,
I'm trying to finish out my modern deck.
For the goyf I am more than willing to over compensate anyone if theyre trading down.
I prefer all trades to be atleast $30 otherwise shipping is a waste.

Re: Returning after 14yrs. Need help with a concept deck plz. (11 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)
With the deck I listed the liliana of the veil isn't all too necessary, it's just a phenomenal card and played in countless decks that use black. That being said, even though it is rotating it will not be significantly dropping in price at it is played in multiple modern decks.
As for the win con of the deck itself, the whole point is to utilize the potential of crypt ghast. Currently it's only a $2 card because no one's managed to incorporate it into a tier 1 or 2 deck (this is developing into that and has done decently at competitive FNM's). The deck slows down aggro decks so they dont win on T4-T5 through an early burn followed up by a board wiping mutilate. (So yea, your description is more or less accurate)
Liliana of the Dark Realms and Crypt Ghast help flood your mana pool to make rakdos's return and devil's play an effective T5 or T6 play.
Against control we're working on finalizing the sideboard, basically remove all of the mutilates, doom blades, and burn spells (keep rakdos's return and devil's play), up the planeswalker count, and then add cards like corrupt and duress to the mix.
If you do test it out let me know how it runs. Or if you find suggestions to make for it.

and on TCG voice is going for $36-37...you've gotta be consistent with your pricing (can't say that your card is worth middle price and the cards you want are at low price).

Re: Standard Jund Midrange (heavy creature base) - Feedback requested (10 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)
The problem with varolz aggro is that the "nuts" hand is:
T1: Vexing (to the Grave)
T2: Burning Tree into Flinthoof
T3: Varolz
T4: Dreg Mangler+Vexing Scavenge
T1: 4 Damage
T2: 0 Damage
T3: 5 Damage
T4: 14 if you swing out
It's generally too slow because 1 chump blocker takes out dreg or 1 removal spell takes out varolz or dreg or any life gain stalls out this deck. Not to say it isn't good casually, but Midrange is by far a better deck.

Re: Standard Jund Midrange (heavy creature base) - Feedback requested (10 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)
If he's playing jund aggro he's playing cards like:
legion loyalist
Strangleroot Geist
Burning-Tree Emissary
Dreg Mangler
Falkenrath Aristocrat
Flinthoof Boar
Ghor-Clan Rampager
Spike Jester
Stromkirk Noble
expiriment one
thundermaw hellkite
hellrider
slumbering dragon is terrible
and varolz & vexing devil work as midrange playstyle cards, not aggro.
So ultimately it depends where he wants to go with it.

Re: Standard Jund Midrange (heavy creature base) - Feedback requested (10 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)
In response to Elpablo's recommendation:
currently I'm not a fan of playing 4 varolz due to him being legendary, I'd still rather have a 1 of rakdos's return mainboard as it's rather strong in the meta.
youre curve is:
1 drops: 8
2 drops: 8
3 drops: 11
4 drops
5 drops: 2
since you're not playing any haste creatures besides dreg you're not really going to be an effective aggro deck.
The Changes I'd make to Elpablo's list:
-4 Dreg Mangler
-1 Varolz
-3 Searing Spear
-1 Garruk
-4 slumbering dragons
+2 Arbor Elf
+1 Dreadbore
+2 Abrupt Decay
+3 Vampire Nighthawk
+3 Olivia Voldaren
+1 Kalonian Hydra
+1 Mizzium Mortars
1 drops: 6
2 drops: 8
3 drops: 8
4 drops: 3
5 drops: 3
Those changes tend to balance out the curve better. (You can play thragtusk over hellkite if you want)
Regardless of what you do I'd like to see you keep the hydra in as not many people know how to deal with it at the moment so it could net you some easy wins.

And as for ante games, it's more of a I'll put up one of my old valuables for one of the new valuables so I'm more or less looking for something I can stomp someone's face in with and walk away happy with my new rare or whatever was ante'd. That way I can get in the game faster.
http://deckbox.org/sets/428218
Here is a black/red deck that me and a few friends have been trying to get going, crypt ghast and griselbrand as previously mentioned are 2 of the core mono black cards.
That being said, mono black (or minor variations such as this) are not really "ante" capable at this time.
It's also mostly because "ante" is a lost format/playstyle.
You're better off trying to trade some of your older cards for value into the newer modern era if you're looking to be competitive without putting in extra money, but ultimately, it really depends what you have laying around.
