Bump, and yeah you're totally right about it being a win more. In a green deck, it might have more punch. Or in a totally non pauper format. Or maybe it's not that great a card? More of a tasty morsel for newbies...

I currently run an Izzet Wee Fiend so I'm familiar with the low cost drawing type spells that storm and similar strategies use. I can't think of a better way to abuse the strength I see in essence harvest though.

Terrible oversight on spellheart chimera. Doh.

Edit: I see and love essence harvest in your exalted deck. smile

So I have this idea rolling around in my head.

Essence Harvest in a Kiln Fiend shell... But I would need access to blue for draw to power up the Fiend.
Spellheart Chimera, Electrickery, Mizzium Skin, Stone Rain, Black Cat, Cry of Contrition, Gitaxian Probe, Distress, Funeral Charm...

Could it even work? My mana base in pauper is terrible for a tri color load. Basics, Gates, Bounces and Panoramas... And if I'm in blue red anyway, why not just Fling?

Hey again, I see some stuff on your tradelist that's on my wishlist, wish I had the cash laying around to buy them from you. What's prompting the sell off?

As a strictly casual player, I can attest to the crushing losses I have suffered across the table from a Gutter Grime. I can also see how it's a terrible card under competitive conditions. That's the beauty of magic and the designers behind it. They specifically build cards for all of their audiences now. Innistrad block is a perfect example of the depth of design. Werewolves are really cool and fun in casual play but are way too slow for competition, which is nice because they were always cheap.
My Playgroup rarely plays any sort of enchantment hate, so gutter grime is sfe and powerful as is pacifism, armored ascension, cathar's crusade. However, due to my self mill decks, it's very common to see graveyard hate, so a normally awesome and competitive strangleroot geist will rarely see the battlefield twice.
I guess my point is play what you like and determine whether it works for you.

Agreed. Heroic is too demanding to be the main idea of a deck, but it feels like a really good support mechanic. big_smile

Man I love this thread.

Sounds Great to me!! I'll make sure to keep myself friendly!! Thanks again for all the awesomeness that you provide free to me. I'm only sad that I didn't find this site, and community sooner!!!

Great idea, awesome!! Loving it!!

Keep up the phenomenal job Deckbox.org!!

If I had [[Birthing Pod]]s...

Simic Undying, Evolve? I think. Young Wolf, Strangleroot Geist, Cloudfin Raptor...

I think that's where I would start. Throw in an Acidic Slime, Phyrexian Metamorph, Zealous Conscripts, Phyrexian Obliterator, Wurmcoil Engine...

I realize that that's completely scattered and inconsistent, but it's probably where I would start and just play with it to see where it's strong.

http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=393031... <Is an interesting read from a pod standpoint, obviously aiming toward competitive and you play it casually.

I feel like there should be a way to tutor the pod... But I can't think of a way to reliably get it out.

That's something I think is weird. Red Deck Wins is a contender in almost every other format, and is mostly cheap cards, yet no red deck wins in pauper competitiely. o.O What's up with that?

I definitely want to try one now though, maybe with some akroan crusader? I've seen that card in action, and it's ridiculously strong for a one drop. Especially when the guy plays titan's strength on it turn two. ::Shudder::

Birthing Pod has definitely captured my imagination. I've never laid hands on the actual card though. sad

Is it best to activate the pod as early as possible to chain up through? Have you ever tried to combine it with a graveyard strategy like Splinterfright?

What are your favorite cards to play with it over the years? Any unexpected successes? How does your playgroup respond to it?

I came up with this brew today. Seems decent, right?

http://forums.pdcmagic.com/viewtopic.ph … 9e598f312f

^That is exactly what I was looking for!

Also searching pauper brew in Google returns some interesting stuff. Most of the decks are half fleshed out.

Along the lines of pauper mill, a buddy of mine came up with an affinity offshoot, using salvage slasher as a way to capitalize on the full graveyard.

Does anybody play Pauper? Casual, mtgo or competitive paper?

Akroan Horse? It would have to be a really specific set of circumstances to make it work though.

Oh. There must have been a secand page that I missed when I went through the decklist. Sorry about the redundancy.

Look at group hug edh decks for inspiration.
There's a whole hunted cycle of creatures that dump tokens on your opponents.  hunted wumpus, hunted lammasu, hunted dragon, hunted horror, forbidden orchard, and acorn catapult are all common choices.

http://deckbox.org/sets/464552 is my Izzet Pauper build for reference.

I've also been trolling http://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/pauper/full for builds, but they tend to be the same day after day because the competitive format tends to hive mind and stagnate pretty quickly.

What are good deckspawn websites for pauper builds? I'm just looking for ideas.

Has anybody seen a functional pauper mill?

What are the coolest pauper decks you've seen, casual or otherwise? Cool, by means of fun to play. I have a version of Eye Candy/ Wee Fiend/ Wee Xerox, whatever you want to call it, that I think is really fun to play.

Self mill for Pauper. I see the ways to mill yourself out, but without Splinterfright and Boneyard Wurm, or even Mindshrieker, how do I convert a full graveyard into a win-con?

I just built Wee Xerox with the cards I had around... http://deckbox.org/sets/464552
The deck is ridiculously fun, beats up on decks twice its size, and makes me a believer in the format itself. Nothing else on mtggoldfish pauper metagame has grabbed my attention though.

I had been looking at Wee Dragonauts for years and just couldn't seem to get my head wrapped around the card enough to make it really work. I've been into self mill for a while too. And my mono white soldiers are really good, but predictable.

So my question is... What are other pauper decks that are just fun? I've seen a Boros aggro humans that was cool... But anything on par with Wee Fiend for quirkiness and real fun potential?

Check out my tradelist, it's huge. You're bound to find something you can't live without!

Just cleared my last two trades. Ready for another couple.

I like to only work with 2-3 trades at a time, easier on my mind, so I will sideline trades that I want to complete, but don't have the brain power for. Please don't be offended. I like to give every trade a good portion of my attention. "Your call is very important and will be answered in the order it was received." big_smile

Bump, because I'll get a few trades but not too many by doing this. big_smile

Could be good, right?! But how?

Here's my prototype, feel free to comment, and I will keep updating as the deck builds and morphs into a 60 card land hating monstrosity!   http://deckbox.org/sets/458603
