I wondered the same thing. I figured some kind of Reanimator build used it since I have yet to find a list that did...

Sebi - is there anything that can be done about the 0 in feedback? I mean its not the end of the world if it has to remain as such but it kinda of sucks that I have this 1 bad reputation point for doing nothing wrong in trying to get the trade completed...

Sorry to necro the thread, But I thought Id give an update on the situation. I ended up having to settle for an RTR overgrown Tomb in compensation because the person traded away the Scalding Tarn and Verdant Catacombs I traded him so he couldnt even send them back. He basically gave me the ultimatum of take the 15 or get nothing because "I dont really use deckbox anymore" so I dont care what punishment I recieve attitude. He left a 0 feedback for me when I left a him a 0 as well. So I basically got screwed twice on 1 trade.

Anyways thanks to all that voiced their thoughts and opinions on what should be done. I hope this event enlightens everyone to what the proper etiquette is when resolving issues with mailed trades...

I could be interested. What do you value it at?

Some one get this man a beer! Couldnt agree more. Well played sir...

Bumping this to say we've read the discussion intently.

It is very true the deckbox official rules are a bit lax, and unclear on this specific situation, and we are updating them in the near future, along with various other changes which we will describe and discuss in an upcoming post in the announcements forum.

On topic, we tend to agree with Thrun's point of view. As far as we know, other reputable trading platforms use this rule as well (e.g. http://www.magictraders.com/policies/sending).

Although I can understand why for some people it sounds a bit harsh, and the 50/50 option sounds friendly and fair, there is one important distinction that makes this option the right one:

As a sender, you have the option of insuring your shipment, and requesting signed confirmation. So if you want to make sure you don't lose money, you can. It is unfair to make the receiver lose money / value when he has no choice about it.

Thank you very much for the for the clarification and "official" final word

Just so I understand correctly, the general consensus is that the policy is that the sender is responsible even for the lost mail of the trade even if DC and tracking was used?

Sorry for not being that responsive to suggestions, its been a fairly busy weekend for me.

PS: What is the the reputation of the other party?

His reputation was 9/9 out trades completed in the last 2 months prior to ours and he had posted a topic on this group that I responded to. Seeing as he was somewhat new, is why I asked to use DC and tracking in the first place. Ive also been in contact with a previous trader that Ive done business who had a similiar issue with cards not being delivered effectively so this could be a some kinda of scam. Although faking tracking would be a very clever trick.

Honestly, getting cash for the cards would be the final option I would go with below, getting the cards back or getting trade value in return. If I wanted cash for them, I would have just sold them on ebay. Alot faster and safer. Its more the principle. No one ever said that trading via mail was 100% fault proof and I understand that but I have always understood that if I want to keep a good reputation as a safe and friendly trader, I would take my losses where I have to and make sure the other person is satisfied with the deal when completed. Again Im not blaming him for the loss of the cards because he did provide proof they were sent, but that still shouldnt change the fact that Ive never recieved them and he recieved mine 4 days after I sent and its been 2 months since he sent. IF they ever do show, I have no problem either giving back the cash credited to me or the value in compensation.

@awful_person - thank you. That's what I was looking for more or less smile

@iamsolipsim - my thoughts exactly. I guess I was just assuming that that was how lost mail trades were handled.

I appreciate the reponses.

I haven't physically been to the post office but I've called and spoken to both post offices in my area as well as the USPS customer service and it hasn't turned up. The tracking only shows that it left CA and they have no idea where went from there.

To be clear i wasnt asking for the current value of the fetches (which would be around 45) just the original 30. I was just under the assumption that even if the mail was lost I would still send value equal the original trade espically if I recieved theirs and they didn't receive mine. I just didn't think it was fair that I would be taking that big a loss when I never recieved anything at all and would be basically taking half of what I traded for. I understand taking some loss but I don't see why I should take more of the loss.

This is really the first time I've had this kind of problem which is why I asked for suggestions. Im not trying to be a pain in the ass with what I think I deserve in compensation. I just want a better understanding as to why 15 would be fair. If people agree that 15 is fair than the majority wins and ill gladly accept that. I am great full he's willing to send anything but just appreciate some clarification

So I've hit a recent snag in one of my trades and I'm looking for some input/suggestions and opinions regarding what can be done to get this trade done. (Im typing on my phone so I will fix the post with any extra info needed when I get a chance to)

So the trade was my scalding tarn and verdant catacombs for his ftv sol ring, cold eye selkie, micharo(white legend from COK I think) and a FNM Korsan grip. The trade was agreed on before the hike in scalding tarns price so given the premium the value of both sides was settled at 30. We both sent out same time and agreed to post tracking numbers which we both did. I live in NY and he lives in CA so I wasn't expecting it like next day or anything. He recieved both of my fetches within a week but I have yet to receive his at all. The tracking number shows that the package did leave CA but it never was recieved anywhere since and it's been over 2 months. We've called and filed a claim but bc it wasnt insured, there is nothing that USPS will do for lost mail. Their only advice was to wait and see.

So now we come to issue of sending compensation. His offer was to send me 15 in value which is basically half of what the original trade was for which doesn't seem fair so I now come to all you wise and all knowing traders (and mods) for what you think would be the right compensation. If by chance the sol ring and other cards come in I would gladly send them back. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to post your thoughts below so he and I can get this this figured out.

First off, B-E-A-UTIFUL work with getting this up and running! Ive enjoyed using it thus far. I can't wait for the next wave of updates because they sound like they will make this app even more awesome than it already is smile

Also great work on your Life Counter App. Ive been using that one for a while and its my go to App for all Magic related Fun!

Sadly, unless the tracked shipment is insured, the post office wont do anything beside tell you to wait longer. I have a current trade that should have gotten to be me a month ago and all the tracking says is that is left the processing center of the state it was sent from. Im still working with the guy to see if he will agree to send other compensation.

I took am interested in the foil thragtusk. Let me know if we can work something out

If all those cards are for trade, you should put them in your tradelist and the same goes for the cards you want in your wishlist. Then all someone has to do is go to your profile and it compares cards you have with what people what and vis versa. its easier to keep cards you have for trade more up to date than posting on thread all the time. Deckbox is different than other sites in this regard.

Also this a very active thread for trading - http://deckbox.org/forum/viewforum.php?id=30

Anyway Id be interested in the FTV Balance smile

Ingenious idea. Im not sure why I didnt think of this in the first place. Sign me up

They aren't that far off in value, add 1 card of mine and they are equal.....

True but the big thing is FoW is a card that has steady increased value over time and is big staple in Legacy. Jace AoT wont ever retain that type of value and eventually will become a 15-20 card. JTMS is really the only planeswalker that a 1:1 trade is more in the realm of possibility. If you were to find a person willing to make that trade, your probably going to have to over trade by a decent amount because trading for a Jace AoT is alot easier to trade for right now than a FoW. Im by no means trying to tell you off from trying to make that trade but Jace AoT will drop in price sooner than you find a willing trade partner.

I would suggest selling it on eBay to get the most value right away as well as some other cards and just buy a FoW. You'll have what your looking for alot sooner and you wont hear people berate you about trying to make unrealistic trades roll

I was rather surprised that I had offers literally 30 seconds after I posted this. Im waiting to see what gets accepted but right now the Gaea's Cradle, 2 Wastelands, Phyrexian Tower are being negotiated as is the Izzet Dice.

I still have the Golgari Dice as well as the boxes/checklist/letter for both. Ill update this when I know more.

@Fluke - is that Duel Deck Daze you have English?

My LGS owner got some Gold-Bordered cards in a collection he recently bought and gave me and a few other people a couple before he puts them out to sell. I managed to snag the 1 Gaea's Cradle, 2x Wastelands and a Phyrexian Tower.

They work great as Proxies for EDH or just casual play (not in Tournaments obviously) and Im just looking to see if there is any interest in them. Id probably value them at about 5 apiece give or take and perhaps if your interested, I can paint the border with black acrylic paint to make it look like the real thing! I have pictures of other alters Ive done so Im not a complete noob tongue

I also have the box, dice, checklist and letter from the pre-release for Izzet and Golgari too.

Im not looking for anything specfic so feel free to PM me if your interested smile

Man if I would have known there was interest for the just the boxes and such I would picked through the trash for the ones people were throwing away.

That in mind, I have a Golgari and Izzet box with life counters, checklist and letters (no packs) if anybody else is interested. The Golgari one has rip on the 1 corner but the Izzet 1 is just like I got it from the pre release just as an FYI.

For the love of Krenko, You need to run Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle! This would be the first land I sleeve up in a mono red deck lol

So, Phrank, if you were going to start with one of my two EDH decks, which would you first use, and why?

Honestly if I were you, I would start with Krenko for a couple reasons.

1. Goblins are fun to play!
2. Building a mono-color deck will really be easier to learn about the amount and types of mana you should be running in EDH. Since your only running 1 color you dont have to worry about making sure you have enough of the other color and how much you should be using.
3. Goblins are really easy to come by and most of them are cheap. There are very few of them that you shouldnt consider using at some point.
4. It will be faster to put together and run. Mono colored decks kinda run on Auto-pilot when playing them and for someone just starting to learn how the deck and the format works this isnt really a bad thing.

I also agree with Phrank about running just EDH staples. Should you run all of them? No. Should you run some? Probably. Do you have to run any? Nope. The one thing about this format that I love is that whenever Im building a deck, I always come across cards I have never heard of and Ive actually taken EDH "Staples" out of decks for random jank because it makes the deck more fun and unpredictable to play. I will never get tired of hearing " Wait that card does what?". This is a "One formats garbage is an EDH format treasure" format. Granted there are cards that are obviously better than others and others that just don't do anything in EDH all together (ie Surgical Extraction).

My advice to you with building Mono-red is to go crazy.Leave no stone unturned smile. A friend of mine has a Niv-Mizzet deck that is completely random. Everything from Coin-flipping to randomly destroying things even his own. He only runs blue for card draw.

I realize you didnt ask me but I just happened to see the question so I thought Id answer...

  • RESPOND to trade offers with SOMETHING instead of just canceling them, if you don't say SOMETHING how do we know what to change or tweak?

Sure what I'm asking people to do is think about what they are doing.  Yes it's cardboard, and quite valuable cardboard, but in the end run, it's just a game people...trade nicely and don't be douchey.

Its good to know Im not the only one. Ive gone as far as to include it on my profile thing that Im sure no one reads lol. A simple "no Im not interest thanks" is far better than jsut leaving it open for a couple days EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS YOU WERE ONLINE and saw the trade was offered and you have a message. No if I dont hear anything from a person a propose a trade to for 3 days I just close it if they were online and saw it. Im then usually less inclined to trade with that person in the future bc I dont want to have cards tied up waiting to MAYBE be traded...
