I'll take a crack at the top three in a minute... I think the lack of response comes from the rather daunting nature of the request.  Most people don't even have 32 decks put together at once, much less need feedback on all of them.

There's two down... any other takers?

I've tinkered a bit to get it down to 60 cards.  Feel free to look at the current format and any thoughts are welcome.

Bump...

One down, three to go.  Anyone?

I've sent two trades to people for two of them thus far, but have yet to hear back from either of them.  I'm looking to piece together four of them, so by all means take a look at my tradelist and let me know if you see anything.

This is definitely some good feedback.  The BOP won't be going anywhere until I have to move them.  Same can be said for the Fireblast at the moment.

Null: You're likely right about Farseek and the need to provide more "motivation" to attack.  I've added a Garruk as well.  Yet, it looks like most of the comments you've given are centered around Roaring Primadox (who I'll agree is pretty mean!) and the ETB effects, but I'm still wanting to center on the sleeping dragons.  After all, the thought of an 8/8 flyer for one mana is just sick.  I completely agree that the deck is far too scattered at the moment, but that's where I'm looking for some guidance.  I've actually never played standard constructed, so I don't know what I would be most likely to see, and thus, what I really need to tailor the deck to be prepared for.

Do you three play at your local FNMs?  Standard?  What are the most common themes?  Delver and Snapcasters... but what else?  Do I have to worry about a lot of board clearing effects?  How often do things like Rolling Temblor make the cut?

The nice part of Slumbering Dragon is that you're likely going to cast it before your opponent will have the ability to counter it, but there's ALWAYS removal.  It sure would suck to get up to four counters and then BAM! Murder.  That's what Sheltering Word is there for.  But beyond that, what options do I have?  The games I've played at my LCS were always sealed, so I don't know what I watch out for (and I know that there's no way to predict what everyone is running, but if you're playing FNMs on a regular basis you should have a feel for what's out there... at least a better feel than I do, which, admittedly isn't hard).

Title is pretty self-explanatory... looking for at least two (pending how a pair of other trades work out).

Here's my tradelist:  http://deckbox.org/sets/129548

Thanks!

Those were just thrown in for the time being... it should be easy enough to find another legal dragon or green meanie to replace the Flameblast.  Any thoughts on a replacement for BOPs?

I also stumbled across Rolling Temblor just a few minutes ago... thoughts on that rather than Searing Spear?  It would be less directed, but could board wipe tokens easily.

So for whatever reason I've decided that it would be nice to have a halfway decent standard deck to be able to take to FNM in the fall.  I've also been greatly amused by some of the combos that are out there in just M13.  So, I've decided to make a RG deck that rocks Slumbering Dragon and some Roaring Primadox combos.

This is what I have thus far:

http://deckbox.org/sets/199066

Realistically, the plan is to drop one (or more) Slumbering Dragons early in the game and then either wait for my opponent to wake them up or do so myself.  The best part being that there are numerous ways I could wake the li'l guys up: 1) Ring of Valkas is an obvious start; 2) Bond Beetle when paired with Roaring Primadox turns into an easy counter per turn for one G; 3) Increasing Savagery or Blessings of Nature will do the trick pretty quickly; or 4) I just let them attack me and rock a Fog, giving him the counters but not dealing the damage to me.

I also like the Roaring Primadox and Elvish Visionary combo to let me draw additional cards each turn.

I currently have some other dragons included in the deck in case they are running heavy removal and take out the Slumbering Dragons, Roaring Primadoxes, and even Sentinel Spiders (after all, who is going to expect them to KEEP getting bigger?).

I've included some removal of my own in the form of Searing Spear, Volcanic Geyser, and Prey Upon, but is that enough?

Sheltering Word is in there to shield my dragons while they're sleeping.

Lastly, Titanic Growth is pretty self-explanatory, get those last damage to win, pump up the blocker, or even just pump up for a massive Prey Upon.

My biggest problems are as follows:

1) I like some of the combos that I have going here, but I obviously have too many cards.  I'd like to knock it down to 60.  But what do I drop?

2) I fear that I don't have enough removal or evasion.  Am I going to get murdered by a counterspell deck or an aggro that's just faster than I am?

3) What, in general, should I drop to increase the consistency of the deck?  I'm not big on 4x of everything because that leads to really predictable decks, but I'd be willing to drop a few things here or there if it will make the deck more consistent.

I'm going to be extra receptive to input here as I haven't played anything competitive outside of drafts and releases (which it goes without saying are totally different).

The floor is open... Thoughts?

Keep in mind that Feast of Blood isn't legal in standard.  However, for simple removal like that, Murder is.

No problem.  Is this for casual or competitive play?

Just a few quick thoughts:

1) You currently have 5x Vampire Hexmage - it's likely just a typo, but regardless.  Further, what're you needing to remove counters from that you would want the Hexmages?

2) I'd adjust the mana mixture as it looks like you have a lot more need for black than red, so a 50/50 mix probably isn't the best ratio.  If you enter the deck into deckbox you can click the "tools" tab in the upper right when you're looking at the deck and it will give you a breakdown of the mana curve and a suggestion for how many lands of each color you would want (you can adjust the total number of lands too).

3) There are a wealth of vampire cards out there that would/could be great in here - depending on what format you're aiming for of course.  If you're going for standard, I'm not positive exactly which of these are legal off the top of my head, but I know several aren't.
- Blade of the Bloodchief - not standard legal, but MAN is that a sick card for a vampire deck
- Feast of Blood - also not standard legal, but a GREAT removal option.  It can help in a pinch with life gain too.
- Urge to Feed - again, not standard legal, but another great option for those pesky indestructible creatures (and a good way to keep pumping those vampires).
- Blood Artist - standard legal, and it will accomplish the same goal as Kalastria Highborn without costing you any mana.
- Gatekeeper of Malakir - not standard legal, but it gives you a 2/2 vampire AND removal in the form of its kicker.
- Sangromancer - standard legal, a great creature as it's a four drop 3/3 flyer that also gives you life gain
- Anowon, the Ruin Sage - not standard legal, but man is he mean... you can essentially just sit back and watch them sacrifice their creatures while you don't sack anything
- Heirs of Stromkirk - standard legal, a good option at a four drop as it pumps like just about everything else you want in the deck, but the beauty comes from having intimidate
- Havengul Vampire - standard legal, and another good option at the four drop spot

I realize I've just listed a LOT of cards, but those are just some of the easier options that come to mind.  My suggestion would be to drop some (or all) of the Guul Draz Assassins to replace with something I've listed above.  Definitely swap the Kalastria Highborns for Blood Artists.

My only other thought, and this is one where I differ from most people, I suggest dropping to three of a lot of the cards rather than four (with exceptions for ones you REALLY want) as that creates space for you to plug in a lot of other options.  I know consistency is normally everyone's top concern, but I don't think moving more toward 3x of most cards reduces the deck's consistency as much as it provides increased flexibility (you create room to have more combos rather than just relying on the same one or two that you would have if you have 4x of everything).

As always, playtesting and your personal preferences/playstyle will dictate how to best proceed, but I hope these suggestions help.

Ugh... the thought of a Tormented Soul attacking with several exalted bonuses with Ajani's secondary (lifelink and double strike)... that's just gross.  But also way too predictable.

Ajani Goldmane was the one I previously had in the deck, but Ajani, Caller of the Pride's ultimate will still work out quite disgustingly with how many cat tokens it will create.  The life gain mechanic isn't really the primary goal here as it's clear much better life-gain decks are out there, but this gives me a bit more flexibility with regard to what I can do and how I can win.  Sure, getting to 40 and letting the Felidar Sovereign trigger can be fun, but so can gaining life to the point the opponent can't kill you while you generate buttloads of kitties, all the better to overrun them with.  That and the idea of Ajani's secondary on a creature that has a Loxodon Warhammer with Cradle of Vitality or even a Celestial Mantle is just about as equally gross as the exalted combo.

A revised build is now posted.

I like Healer of the Pride, as it could let me replace Soul's Attendant to get essentially the same effect while also playing into my cat theme (although it sucks that it costs three more to play).  Funny that you would mention Loxodon Warhammer because I remembered this morning that some of the equipment will need to provide trample, as there isn't anything much more annoying than having a huge Ajani's Pridemate that can't do anything because they keep chump blocking it with little critters.

For the Lightning Greaves, I can see the benefit of those, but Swiftfoot Boots do the same thing only they provide hexproof as opposed to shroud (which can be really nice).  I'm not too worried about having to pay one for the equip cost on them as I really think most of the "infinite" combos are overrated as they need roughly four or more cards working in tandem in most cases (which I find is an easy way to get yourself killed when working toward).  I can also see where Konda's Banner could be beastly as I'd want to equip my legends with it (which is a plus) and it would give +2/+2 to all of my cats (another plus).

I do have two Pride Guardians I'm going to try and swing in there and Angelic Chorus would be funny once I start really dropping cat tokens.

Any other equipment thoughts?

I have to second everything the_wizard_666 said.  Your biggest problem is simply not having multiples of most cards to give you any consistency.

I was referring to your friends for the card combos, as it would be nice to know if you're playing against people with quality constructed decks (at which point you would almost definitely have to go out and buy some more cards to be competitive) or if they're also running mostly one-offs like it appears you will be (so if they only have one of most of the cards they like, then you're on a more level playing field and can be more effective).

From having looked at your cards just a little bit, I would suggest trying to go through each color you have and looking to see what cards YOU like the most (or put another way, is there a card or two that you think would be fun to play?).  Then you can use those as a starting point to build a couple of mono colored decks (hell, build one for each color) and play them to see which color you like, which plays the best, what you like, etc.

At the moment I would say you could start with a mono black deck that tries to center around Harvester of Souls, but depending on your competition quality, and what you like in your collection, you might want to go another route.

As in multiple cards that they're playing that work off one another.  For instance, in my werewolf deck (seen here http://deckbox.org/sets/164784) almost all of the creatures are normal humans but they work off of Moonmist that I would play during combat, preventing all damage to my creatures while also transforming them into werewolves (in turn taking out their creatures while making all of mine much larger).  That then ties in with Immerwolf who prevents them from reverting back to their human forms.

Does that make sense?

What are some of the card combos you're looking at?  The idea is that if you're facing something REALLY nasty, it might take some added creativity on our parts.

So it's not exactly news to those of us in the deck discussion area that I scored Ajani, Caller of the Pride at the M13 launch... but that has led me to believe I should reshape my CATS deck (see the title 'F Broadway'... see what I did there?)

Here's the deck as it currently sits:  http://deckbox.org/sets/164806

The deck is currently constructed to be half about cats and half about life gain, with a splash of green that will almost assuredly be going away very soon.  I'm moving to a mono white cat token and life gain scenario.  I'm building in at least two White Sun's Zenith and plan on including Raksha Golden Cub and Kemba, Kha Regent to help pump all the kitties and to help make more of them.  I'm also going to sideboard the Rhino M13 guy that doubles all life gain.  There will also be at least two of Ajani's Sunstriker as it fits both lifegain AND the cat theme smile.

My question for all of you guys really concerns the equipment I should run to make both of them work.  I'm torn what exactly I should be aiming for given the abilities of Raksha and Kemba.  On the one hand I can go for things that make them indestructible or hexproof (see Darksteel Plate and Swiftfoot Boots) or I can go for just making them hella blockers (see Peregrine Mask and Veteran's Armaments) or I can go with the more versatile, traditional pumping and benefit for attacker pieces that would be able to help all the other kitties on the board (see Infiltration Lens, Leonin Scimitar, Darksteel Axe, etc.).  I'm also thinking Ring of Thune (the M13 ring for white creatures that gives them vigilance and the counters) could prove useful. Given that my experience running equipment in decks is, well to be honest, ZILCH outside of the M13 pre-release, I'm open to suggestions (outside of the major swords... I don't want to break the bank here).

I welcome your thoughts on what bling I should provide for the kitties.

What sorts of things do they (your friends) run?

(14 replies, posted in Decks and Deckbuilding)

Alrighty... for one, that's sort of the goal of almost every deck, so it'd help to be a bit more specific, but I gather you're just starting out so it's cool, everyone has to learn sometime.

I've started looking at your collection and you certainly have an eclectic mix from a large number of sets.  I'm guessing you purchased someone else's collection?  You have some useful cards but the biggest problem is that you only have one of most of them.  I'll keep looking and see what I can figure out for you, but I'm guessing that some of the other members here will be of greater assistance as it looks like your best option will be to play Pauper (only commons are allowed) or just keep to casual games until you can amass some more powerful cards.

I'll keep looking, but it will likely take a few days for me to come up with anything decent.

Sadly you're going to have to give us more than that.  Could you provide a link to the deck you built for us to look at?  What sort of theme were you looking to go with?  Any/all input you can provide will help us make better, more informed suggestions for your deck.
