So consider which god(s) you gain access to via the seeded pack, as that's the best chance you have of pulling a mythic.  Red and green will get potential access to Xenagos, while red also has potential access to Mogis... seems then, that the best option for a first go would be red.  But, if you consider that half the pre-release pool is Theros, white has Elspeth... and well... she just beats everything in the set....

The Seeded pack that is actually influenced by your color choice likely wont have theros cards in it though will it?

spending 4-5 mana on a hydra that easily gets Doom Bladed or whatever from Monoblack is pretty bad.... (which will fade after Born hits care of Drown in Sorrow and Bile Blight)

it would be easy to argue that G/W Takes too big of a hit to be viable after born hits too but at the end of the day people will figure out a way to play the cards they have too.

Mistcutter does have its limits but because of haste you can squeeze in that 2-4 dmg when they've tapped out dealing with your other threats. Mistcutter is good against control for more than pro blue and uncounterable and when you can do stuff like Advent, mistcutter for 4 on the turn after they tap out to clear your field and swing for 9 anyway its definitely useful.

I guess my point is elaborate and opinion based but the control match ups are bad right now for aggro not because of mass removal but they're bad because people haven't made full use of the tools we have to squeeze through that last little bit of damage.

I May be abit grumpier than usual but this weekend I dropped a mistcutter from my main board for an archangel and lost 2 games against Mono B and 3 against U/W Control because I pulled an Angel instead of a Mistcutter. So its really nothing personal im just frustrated :3

I believe that Arid Mesa is alittle bit cheaper than Verdant catacombs so you may look at that as an alternative Fetch.

Im not sure you need a full set of 4 1 Drops. Maybe drop the Rackdos Cackler and look at getting some more Scavenging Ooze or if you have a big budget to blow tarmogoyf.

It never hurts to have 1 Kessig Wolf Run in the deck either.

Other stuff to consider:
Stormblood Berserker
vexing devil

It seems to me that maybe Darksteel forge is counter productive to the whole Modular thing? If they dont fall apart Modular doesnt ever really kick in. Maybe consider adding in say an ashnod's alter and something to pull your artifacts out of the graveyard (trading post comes to mind) so you can force the modular if/when you need a bigger creature?

Finally Kalonian Hydra, Bioshift and Steel Overseer all have some nice synergy with the whole Modular thing.

Mistcutter could work fine in the main. Blue is a rough match up and Mistcutter gives you abit more power against them without losing much against anyone else. (And its awesome vs. Control tongue)

I've been play testing a G/W deck and your build is pretty close to the 'standard'. Though I still feel that the current standard just doesnt quite work. Or is just missing something.

Once Born hits temple of plenty should be in the deck but I think it lends itself more to replacing the Guildgates. The deck already runs into trouble with tapped lands as is so taking a whole extra set is...not good.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. You put together a really indepth and well thought out suggestion smile

Im not sure it will work entirely as well as it looks on paper. Early on I was running something alittle closer to what you suggest but the trouble I kept running into was no solid way to get the combo together on Turn 3 every time. I could consistently get the 1-2 mana and 1-2 mana dorks. But I would stall out without congregate or Path.

This means we need something like a Drift of Pantasms transmuted or the like. The problem there is it sets you back a whole extra turn. And you start getting beat down by Goyf and Ravager by that point.

That being said I think you're right I've over complicated the deck. I need to refocus and simplfy. And Index is a really good catch on cards to stack the top of my deck. :3

(Also Congregate is Instant speed so basically no need to worry about non Instant Mill ie: Most of it)

So I've been working on this version of a Modern 'oath of druids' style deck for a while now. Its still abit rocky but I figured maybe someone here would have something brilliant to make it work.

http://deckbox.org/sets/520744

Its doing alright casually but I dont think I can manage it against a more mainstream deck consistently.

The deck centers around:

MutavaultDescendants' Path + Congregation at dawn combo. You set up the top of your deck with Emrakul/Iona/Avacyn/Progenitus and then Mutavault becomes a creature as you check for Descendants path and poof. You get yourself a free creature.

As a secondary strategy it can sandbag with Lingering souls/caraytid and ramp using mana dorks into a fast fatty.

Finally I've found that a Glittering wish Support package seems to be doing alright for me. Giving me consistent access to board wipes and other support spells but Im concerned it may be slowing down the deck over all.

They look fine I didnt notice anything major that I thought you could add... Maybe Olivia or Falkenrath Aristocrat in the Vampire deck?

You said you've played 100+ games with the soldier deck. What sort of decks do you typically see? What have been your best and hardest match ups? How competitive are you looking to go with these?

So Im would like the following (and valuing at approx.)
5 Shadowborn Apostles ($.50 x5 = 2.50)
2 Geralf's Messenger ($1 X 2 = 4.50)
4 Abrupt Decay ($4 x 4 = 20.50)
1 Azorius Charm ($.25 X 1 = 20.75)
1 Gruul Charm ($.25 X 1 = 21.00)

And I'm offering $23 given that they are 'worth' more.

edit: Undervalued Abrupt decay... Alot

Not sure I agree. She stops 1 target. Alot of Modern Decks rely on a few hard hitting creatures. Being able to hold off a goyf for example is quite nice. Same goes for a Delver, a baneslayer or a Serra Ascendant (Is that the name of the card soul sisters uses? I've lost track now)

Oh I'm quite well aware of the format restrictions for proliferate.  Legacy has the same established decks and she's hardly going to change that.  Standard is going to have to find a new footing once the rest of the set hits... but I can see where the low loyalty isn't as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be.

I guess my point was more that shes good just very commandery for the moment until people figure out what she could work in. My money is on a BUG control deck for modern that will eventually come.

I don't really play other formats beyond EDH, but for someone not to be looking at her and proliferate in the same sentence is amazing me.  If she stays on the board for any amount of time you can get her to 5 and BAM, free Krakens.  Either way...

you're right with Proliferate shes pretty solid. But think of it in other formats.

In Legacy you can do alot better things in general but she may have a place in some BUG variants?
In Standard you cant get proliferate.
In Modern Proliferate is generally speaking too slow to make her count. On the other hand maybe some sort of Assault Loam variant could make use of her.

Thats not to say she couldn't be played in any of these just that these are the broad generalizations. As with any card she just needs to find the right home.

Not a single response or reaction?

Its hard to say much about her without knowing more about the set.

Her +1 is alright but Im not sure how useful it is.
Her -1 is neat but doesnt quite do it for me.
Her Ult is solid.

I could see her fitting into something that could proliferate onto her a couple times maybe? I suspect we'll see some moderate play in Standard with maybe some use in other formats? Low starting loyalty and a slow tick up make her harder to keep alive in games like Modern, but her -1 could be really solid in the right Commander Deck.

Im a big fan of old nivmizzet. You just search out a Curiosity effect and combo out to win. The rest of your deck can just be burn and card draw.

Ghavu was supposed to be pretty bad as well where you would accidentally go infinite.

Memnarch is pretty cool too once you get up to a solid artifacty mana base. Unwinding clock makes the game not fun. Whats that I took all your cards for myself and they just continually untap?

I would also note Land Destruction effects seem to make the game least fun.  R/G Wort + All the R/G land destruction is not terribly fun to play against.

Well consider Mono-U plays pretty close to an aggro deck most of the time Im not sure I like Inaction Injunction. Early game you want to be in control of the board and by late game where it could be nice to remove a chump or two from blocking you should have Thassa to provide unblockable.

If you're going to run so many spells have you considered NivMagus Elemental? Considering you're also running light on heavy U requirement spells you could fit in 3-4 Mutavaults if you were so inclined. (It looks like you might have some budget on this deck perhaps?)

I think you're running a bit short on devotion stuff but If you want it more tempo-y then its certainly work able.

How about:

Creatures: (22)
4 judge's familiar
4 cloudfin raptor
2 Galerider Sliver
4 Nivmagus Elemental
2 Tidebinder mage
3 Thassa, god of the sea
3 Master of waves

Spells: (14)
3 Blustersquall
3 spell rupture
3 cyclonic rift
3 Triton Tactics
2 claustrophobia

Land: (24)
2 Nykthos, shrine to Nyx
18 Island
4 Mutavault

Heres the list I think you should probably remove.

Blistercoil wierd
Frostburn Wierd
Mercurial Chemister
Protect // Serve
Blast of Genius
1 Izzet Guildgate (you have 5 there) But add back in another land
Nivix Guildmage
Izzet Cluestone
2 Fluxcharger/2 archaeomancer

Seems to me that Daring Skyjack is the perfect card to replace with Cavalry Pegasus.  I also agree that Imposing Soveriegn is a must. Fabled Hero would also be a big plus to the deck too hes pretty ridiculous.

Path seems to  be best if you ever plan on having Archangel in the deck. Otherwise Spear is pretty solid. It is kind of weak compared to traditional anthems though given that you can only ever have one on the board at any time.

I was playing around abit I kind of like this. Alittle ramp, lots of Flash Creatures and such.

http://deckbox.org/sets/527150

Almost a third of your deck is cards that are >= 4CMC that seems really high to me. I'll take another look in the morning when I've had some sleep and try and come up with more suggests. I'd look for stuff like Master of Cruelties, Scooze and such.

you have most of a decent G/W aggro/midrange there.

Soldier of the Pantheon, Experiment One, Brave the Elements are the major things to look for. Maybe some Scavenging Ooze or Voice if you have them.

you're running alot of high cost cards without a good way to last to get them really IMO. I would right off the bat swap the sphere of safety for 4 Brave the Elements, its an amazing card.

Look into Soldier of the Pantheon (Even gains life!) and Fabled Hero (Double Strike).

I built a very similar deck and I think its fairly viable, though perhaps not at a major tournament. Much of what TyWoo says is very true, though we disagree about somethings. One of the big advantages to a strategy like this is you only need 1-2 cards on the field and then you sit there pumping out lots of tokens and putting on aggro pressure. If they wipe the board its not fun but it only takes you 1-2 cards to get back into the swing of things.

I would also note that Judges Familiar is considerably different to stymied hopes since it cant hit creatures. I do like the familiar though.

From a rules perspective, I don't believe that you can pay life for an effect that will cause you to go to negative life:

118.4. If a cost or effect allows a player to pay an amount of life greater than 0, the player may do so only if his or her life total is greater than or equal to the amount of the payment. If a player pays life, the payment is subtracted from his or her life total; in other words, the player loses that much life. (Players can always pay 0 life.)

So long as hes not paying the life. He can still lose life that takes him below 0 is my understanding?

So like as long as he doesnt lose for being at 0 and he gets attacked for 5 with no blockers that would take him down to -5.

Samurai is an all time MVP for me but my local meta seems to have lots of living End.

Arbiter is really cheap so I would look to run him either way big_smile
