Nope, it's not canceled. Do you remember what happened after you canceled it? Were you redirected to the trade page or back to your dashboard?

Yep, coming soon (within the next 2 weeks).

Update on the Pricing situation

We have started to look at devising a formula for a Deckbox Market Price, based on our existing prices, amazon and ebay. We had helpful people with a penchant for economy and markets offer their advice, so we are in good hands!

We have made a Prices help page with some details on how we calculate them. Please take a look, we'd love to hear your feedback.

We still appreciate you reporting issues you see with pricing, in our dedicated forum thread.

We will be benchmarking these prices against Tcgplayer and Star City prices to ensure their quality. As we said, what we want to achieve is having a Market Price that is better and more reliable than other ones on the market.

We will also provide graphs of the evolution of these prices over time. If any of you guys have played games such as Eve Online smile , you know you can get powerful market analysis tools such as Moving averages and Donchian Channels plotted over time.

We are aiming at that level of tooling, and work has started.

Helping out

Some users have offered to help with donations or kickstarters. We are still convinced we do not want to accept donations. We want to build a solid business that stands up by itself. If you want to help us or show support, you can do that by buying cards from Deckbox sellers, or by becoming a seller and making sales on our market. That helps in many ways - from supporting the business, to solidifying price information and providing us with better data on market movements.

Thank you all for your support and patience.

Just to be very clear. TCGplayer (My Company) did not say that we would be unwilling to work with Deckbox again.

No... your company "did not say" anything actually. Your company only made legal threats.

Let's not start a public dicussion here, I'm not fond of needless drama. I am available via email for discussion, as always.

It's going to be a messy period while trying to establish deckbox-based pricing, but there is no reason it can't happen.

To be honest, I'm surprised at the number of people who were relying directly on TCGPlayer prices blindly for their trades or sales. They provided multiple data points in the form of low, mid, and high, and there were often large discrepancies between the reliability of these prices, especially for small-value cards.

All it takes for deckbox to get its own pricing system in place is a bit of sales data. Sellers should be pricing cards at their own prices, based on what they want to receive for their card (whether they prefer to get this information based on other retail sites, tcgplayer, ebay, amazon, their LGS, etc is up to them). Over time more sellers will have more cards available, and more sales will occur. In order to provide maximum pricing data to buyers and traders, deckbox would do well to include any of the following data:

- Most recent sold price
- Average sold price (last [1/7/30] days)
- Volume sold in last [1/7/30] days
- Lowest sold price in last [] days
- Highest sold price in last [] days
- Average volume available on deckbox marketplace in last [] days

With even a small volume of transactions on any individual card, with enough of these types of data points, it is easy to see a ballpark for what people are willing to pay for a card, and that range will get more precise over time.

Very true and insightful!

I am preparing a post with more information for later today.

So how do we as a seller go about canceling a sale? With all of the pricing changes I want to cancel everything here until it all feta sorted out

You should not be cancelling sales because of deckbox price changes. The prices you set for your cards were your own decisions, and your own prices. Your buyers trusted you for them.

If you do want to go on with cancelling, please read our cancel page: http://deckbox.org/help/cancelling_sales

Please be aware the buyer is entitled (and most probably will) leave you negative feedback for cancelling a sale for no reason.

No corporate entity would allow a competitor to get all its hard work for free...unless you will go on record stating that you will allow any competing site to fully index your prices and use them to undercut you? smile

I hereby go on record smile stating that not only I will allow other websites to index our prices should they wish, but I will be glad for the publicity and for their respect (as that would mean they value our prices a lot).

As I have indeed respected Tcgplayer for their prices. They have a good business, I do not mean to sound overly critical of them. I was only put off by their communication and attitude on this issue.

Other users still see your bio of course, when they visit your page.

I agree about the empty space on the left. Also we'll add a way to see your own profile easily.

I'm hoping that this change actually allows Deckbox to move away from the restrictions of TCG player and accommodate more of the promos & cards that were not previously listed.

It was completely avoidable...just dont do the market.  They performed the same business practice you the same as you would bully them if they stood up a direct competitor to you while using all of your data to make your site remotely functional.

I have answered this above. We cannot remain in our current form.

Website is nearly unusable as is... I realize the website is provided as a "free" service, but ads to provide a form of revenue and i think that will drop sharply after this.

There are no ads anymore, for a week now.

This is a big mistake.  Find some other way to monetize the site.  You get enough traffic to earn money via google ads, and you could start accepting donations.

This has been calculated and tried. It does not work.

As I said, have some faith in us, we will have proper price data soon, we do not need or want to depend on the whims of Tcgplayer.

They bullied us now, they could have bullied us at any point in this website's future. We cannot rely on them.

We will be discussing a possible integration with MtgPrice.

@marumari - donations would not work. We need resources to pay full time developers and support. That is not feasible with donations. We want to be a solid long term business that provides a rock solid product to the users. If we want to be here another 6 years from now, it is the only way to go.

And certainly there are other options to explore than this.

I'm sorry if I have a beligerent tone, was not intended. I'm also trying to candidly respond to your worries. They are our worries too. smile

We're here for 6 years, with basically no revenue, and we devoted a lot of days and nights and weekends to this website. Sadly, life catches up and you  can't do that anymore.

We did search for options. This one seemed to be the best one for us, but most importantly it seemed be best one for you, our users.

We know we can do better than tcgplayer, and we will try to do that, for trades, sales, and collectors. I'm fully commited to this.

You were doing one thing really well. Why compromise that in order to add half-baked functionality as well as diminish your ability to fulfill your original goal. I would strongly suggest polling your audience before making such huge decisions on their behalf. I understand you're the product owner, but you also don't want to leave your user-base feeling abandoned. I'm speaking not only as a user of the system, but as a UX/Usability professional.

Because we would have had to completely shut the website down in absence of a monetization strategy.

I too would recommend pursuing an alternative way to monetize deckbox that doesn't step on tcgplayer's toes and allows you to keep access to their data.

They will not allow us to do this anymore, and we do not want their help anymore. smile  Tcgplayer prices are gone forever.

is this because you guys explicitly added a market/sales functionality? If so... Get rid of it.

Thank you for the (very candid) feedback, but we are pretty determined to create a functional and successful marketplace in addition to trading.

Almost all of the cards, especially lower value cards, have a price of zero for me.

Yep, we are looking at this issue today. It's because there are many sellers on amazon that set prices to 1 cent for commons and charge for shipping.

On a related note, I have a trade in progress where the other user can't add a Maze's End to my side. "Maze" and "End" return too many results to get the card into the pop-up list, and "Maze's" doesn't return anything.

Fixed in today's release. Thanks for reporting.
