Two minor things I noticed concerning the website:

  1. There is no favicon (the small picture that is displayed under favorites, next to the url and on the tab title).

  2. The Firefox feature bookmark keywords (http://johnbokma.com/firefox/keymarks-explained.html) does not function properly. I got it working by manually setting "Location" to "http://deckbox.org/mtg/%s", but "Add a keyword for this search" does not work.

2. I usually go to the entry of the relevant card and look at the "latest decks using this card"-Option(great feature, by the way! big_smile) to find out where and how many copies i use. This usually works fine , but can become rather tedious when the card is used in a lot of other decks by other people. So my proposal number two would be: add a filter by username to the latest decks-list.

Why not just add a "Your decks using this card"-section with an extra column indicating the number? I see no practical purpose in filtering for any user other than oneself.

Have you tried to contact the occupant of the deckbox-account? Maybe you could persuade him to change his username (you can do this on twitter).
Otherwise you should go with deckbox_org, the other suggestions are kind of gimmicky.

Gatherer is a very good (albeit slow) query engine, but its capabilities are limited to the actual card text. Card tags would provide a meta data layer, that contains the knowledge of the taggers (e.g. that card x is a hoser for mechanic y or that you can use Time Stop to counter a spell).

PS: "false positives [...] lead to inspirational tangents" is an interesting excuse. I will keep that in mind for my next data mining projects. wink

While I was searching for cards to go into a new deck I had the idea, that it could be greatly enhanced by tags for the cards.

To illustrate, some examples of what I am thinking of:
1) To find card drawing spells, you can filter for the rules text "draw". This will, however, also show all cantrips, all cards with cycling, etc . With card tags you could simply filter for the tag "card_draw" (or sth similar) and find your results.
2) Similarly, you could find cards, that use counters, for your Doubling Season deck without finding most counterspells or if you were to seek for counterspells you would also find Mindbreak Trap and the like.
3) If you want hosers for a suspend-deck, you search for the appropriate tag (e.g. suspend_hoser) and find Riftsweeper.

It would obviously take a lot of community effort to tag all cards, but the result would be the best search engine for cards I have seen so far. What are your thoughts on this?

I originally discovered the bug in mails (Thunderbird, but there are probably more clients with this issue). Apparently a similar problem exists with the forum-tags (the ones, that are automatically set).

And the problem description of the CMC-bug was admittedly ambiguous.

1. The MtG mono-colored-hybrid cards are listed under wrong costs. The Flame Javelin-cycle has a CMC of 6 (not 3) and Reaper King has a CMC of 10 (not 5).

2. Links to our Community are messed up: the link extends only to the first blank:

http://deckbox.org/communities/ndh boardgame group/events/29

Maybe replacing the blanks by %20 could fix this problem.

I'd like to add to that request:
Multiple people I know (including myself) have a list of cards, that they want to keep, but everything else is potentially tradeable. It would be nice if this behaviour could be reflected.

Concrete requests:
1. The option to have a no-trade-list and mark everything else tradable.
2. The option to automatically mark cards in decks as non-tradable.

It looks like I simply overlooked the "location" field. Sorry about that.

Hello,
first of all let me say that you did a great job with the community feature. I'd like to make the following suggestions to further enhance it:

  • Allow more options for the format of events, especially "casual" and "other" (for non-Magic games).

  • Add the field "location to events. (our group meets at different locations)

  • Members that are not sure, if they attend an event, are counted towards confirmed participants. I find this to be confusing.
