New interesting article on the WOTC site today, with details about the upcoming Archenemy multiplayer variant: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/feature/91&dcmp=ilc-mtgrss#68753

All in all, it looks pretty nice. What I'm curious about is how the combat balance scales with a varying number of players. The scheme cards revealed have the same efficiency when played against 2 players, as when played against 4 players. So... how does it scale?

Maybe someone who has played with WoW raid decks can chime in?

I'm not sure about this new Archenemy variant. It seems to me that it's all part of the big money making scheme from Wizards, the same scheme that included mythic rares, Planechase, Duel of the Planeswalkers. The concept is interesting, but that's all I can say about it. I think I will rather play EDH than this, but that's me :)

I have a planechase deck that we ocassionally use to mix-up our EDH games. I could see also having and Archenemy deck for the same purpose. Possibly even playing both at the same time??? This is madness!

TheShaman: that's an intriguing idea, haha. That would create a totally wacky game of weekend Magic. :D

In our shop, the wackier games usually are the ones we have the most fun with. Most of the time we are tired/bored of FNM, Type 2 in general and plain old drafting. We have been known to just put random packs from 8 different sets in a bag and draft that way. Ever tried Coldsnap with Saviours of Kamigawa and UnHinged?

Archenemy sounds like a great game to play with two arch-decks and six players in a Emperor style match. It at least sounds like a really fun/broken time.

I'm pretty much a kitchen-table casual player, so I don't go to stores to play. And with my friends quitting Magic a decade ago, I haven't played much as a result so I just collect legends. Archenemy just might convince them to return. :)

Hmm.. Path to Exile, and Kamahl, Fist of Krosa (I've been meaning to build a new EDH around this guy)... not bad, I might actually consider buying this one :D (Yeah, I know, I'm a sucker for green)
