Topic: [Standard][Opinions] RDW

Hello all! A little while ago, I posted my version of a Boros deck that did decently, and some advice I got was to make it RDW until I got all the dual lands and such. I have, and I'm curios to know what the opinion on the deck is, as I've received some advice which I deem questionable, so I'm curios if anyone else would like to throw their 2 cents in.

Deck List (http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/standard-rdw-11-08-13-1/):

Creatures: 28
4x Ash Zealot
2x Boros Reckoner
3x Burning-Tree Emissary
4x Hellrider
4x Legion Loyalist
3x Lightning Mauler
2x Pyreheart Wolf
4x Rakdos Cackler
2x Stromkirk Noble

Instants: 6
2x Brimstone Volley
4x Searing Spear

Sorceries: 2
2x Mugging

Enchantments: 2
2x Awaken the Ancient

Land: 22
22x Mountain

Sideboard: 15
2x Blasphemous Act
2x Mindsparker
2x Mizzium Mortars
1x Pillar of Flame
4x Skullcrack
2x Volcanic Strength
2x Witchbane Orb

Some notes about the choices I made in this deck:

Two Boros Reckoners is not something which I wish to settle at, and I'm constantly trying to finish my play set. Right now, Pyreheart Wolf works well as another three drop, and has won me a few games in and of itself.

Two Awaken the Ancient is due to my lack of funds to afford Thundermaw Hellkites. I almost exclusively play them like they were a five drop, as even if it gets Doom Bladed, my deck can function with four lands.

Two Muggings is due to some of the big fatties that I can't get around. Out of all the cards in the deck, it's the one I think I'll drop or sideboard, though.

The Sideboard is sort of a mess. I think I'm trying to deal with everything, using the Blasphemous Acts to counter other creature decks, Witchbane Orbs to counter Mill, Mindsparkers (which I only just put in there to test with, I personally don't think they're that great on paper) for Esper, Skullcracks for life gain and turbo fog, and the rest for when I need them. Opinions on my sideboard would be helpful, most of the time I only board in Skullcracks and Volcanic Strengths anyways.

Some of the big changes that I've been told are to drop some lands, drop the Legion Loyalists and add more burn and possibly Firefist Strikers. I'm curios to know if anyone else would like to throw their opinion in.

That about covers it, thanks for reading!

Re: [Standard][Opinions] RDW

With the current meta being so far into Jund and RWU (I personally still see junk and Grixis as well), you should mainboard (or atleast sideboard) a few burning earths.

Re: [Standard][Opinions] RDW

I don't think you have enough synergy with burning tree atm.  I think I'd go with lightning maulter/firefist striker as well.  I"m okay with legion loyalist and here's why, he gives trample and makes it hard for tokens to block which is relevant in today's meta.  Giving awaken the ancients trample is pretty good.

Firefist striker means that you don't need pyreheart wolf.  Another 3 drop would be desirable, obviously reckoners, or just keep the zealots for now

I think you should mainboard mizzium and get rid of mugging completely, you don't need it if you run something like firefist. Searing spear and pillar of flame should be your other burn options.    You might cut a land or two.  I would also consider mutavault.  Vault is resilient to sweepers.

I don't like blasphemous act here, or witchbane. Zealous conscripts is pretty decent.  Against it can steal opposing plains walkers.  You can mill them in return tongue

that is my .02 for what it's worth

Re: [Standard][Opinions] RDW

I've been trying to get a few Burning Earths, actually. I just haven't gotten any so its slipped my mind.

Yes this... an omission from my suggestions.  I endorse this statement.  I would say sidebard.  It can help close the games.

Re: [Standard][Opinions] RDW

Skullcrack is your friend, with sphinx and thragtusk so popular you will want to at minimum sideboard them. I ran them mainboard over brimstone volley. A turn one stromkirk noble can get scary in a hurry. Consider rakdos shred freak, he is an awful blocker but he swings immediately.
