when Night Goblin Fanatic attacks does mean, that if he fails, his P-dmg wouldnt knock either
because "when" does mean like "right then" and so hes sacrificed before the next step of the combat, right?
and the opponent has to declare defenders before the card will b revealed!?

"When this unit attacks" means "immediately when this unit is declared as attacker". So you declare attackers, and in the following window the Fanatic's action is resolved. Before the attacked player has to declare defenders. Which might not be much of a factor though, since the Fanatic deals his damage to each unit in the defending zone, not just each defending unit.

of course everyone gets his package in the defending zone when gobbo is successful
but
lets say the defender would hav to choose before the gobbo dies, then there would still be possibilities with card effects for me...dunno... Poison Wind Globadiers or something
