Topic: US Post Offices to discontinue Tracking?

I have been told by several post office employees that the USPS will no longer be allowing people to add tracking to envelopes/small packages, and starting 'xday' if you want to track your packages, you will have to ship Priority.

Has anyone else been told this? I have been getting increasingly more and more friction from the postal employees when I try to just add tracking, so I started shipping out from my local Kroger stores, which basically has a post office inside not run by postal employees. Now, the Kroger employees are starting to tell me the same thing.

If this is true, that means that shipping with tracking will cost upwards of 5-7 dollars, way way up from the normal 1-2 dollars.

How will you handle your trades if this is true? Will you continue to ship with tracking on things over 20 (which I think it pretty normal) or would you up your minimum tracking (Priority) price to 50, or 100?

Re: US Post Offices to discontinue Tracking?

hmm.. according to the website at https://www.usps.com/ship/insurance-extra-services.htm
Tracking is not available for standard mail, but is for first class or media mail. This may be the reason I've never had a problem.. when I've added tracking, I've sent first class (standard mail is supposed to be bendable, so I use bubble mailers and first class hoping nothing gets bent.)
Hope this helps smile

There is also the paypal "Ship Now" feature for $1.93 that every seems to use. (Disclamer: I have never used it personally, since I don't use Deckbox for trading.)
