Topic: [EDH] Grand Arbiter Says Nope

Hey guys, I'm working on putting together a Grand Arbiter deck that focuses on stalling/combos for MP edh games. How does this look so far?

http://deckbox.org/sets/268527

I'm trying to keep the deck to a decent budget, so any cards I add need to be <$10.

Do the combos I have in there work? What should I add as more win-con combos, or as ways to tutor said combos out of the deck?

Re: [EDH] Grand Arbiter Says Nope

Avacyn/Armageddon is a win-con in multi.  Must people will scoop right off.

You can use Catastrophe if you want the flexibility of wiping creatures vs land as well.

Since you have Power Artifact/Basalt Monolith I can only assume the Blue Sun is to drawkill someone, so throw a Stroke of Genius in there as well, which will also be a bit easier to get off as it doesn't cost multiple blue.

Did you leave out an Idyllic Tutor so because you didn't have too many Enchantments?

I'd suggest a Kismet and/or Stasis as well.  Kismet is errataed to apply to all of your opponents.  Quite a powerful card for EDH!

Re: [EDH] Grand Arbiter Says Nope

Death and Taxes is a very annoying deck in Mp.

if you play that you should be aware that players will gang up on you. That means you have to find a win condition to remove some opponents fast.

The usual list that uses mana increase for spells is good. That will stall them until you get your Power Artifact / basalt monolith or Grim monolith  + A draw spell.
You also need a lot of mass removals to stall out the creatures that might attack you. (Rout, WOG, DOJ, Winds of rath etc). Also other cards to put out pesky perms : O-ring, Faith's fetters, detention sphere.

Infinite mana : power artifact(rings of brightheart) + basalt monolith or Grim monolith.  it will generate colorless mana.
Palinchron + any cost reduction (Grand arbiter,Helm of Awakening, Sapphire Medallion, Cloud Key) or with mana increase (extraplanar lens, high tide) will generate colored mana.

with lots of mana :  Skyscribing + laboratory maniac - will kill all players (or you win). Blue sun's zenith and stroke of genius will  do the same.

You can also win with Rest in peace and helm of obedience. You already have an untap artifact effect, so for a merely 1 mana helm and rest in peace will mill any player out. This is good because some players play Leyline of the void and helm works with that (except for that player). Also UW has a lot of artifact and enchantment tutors (you play most of them) and card draw.

As morningstar suggested you can use any LD (armageddon, catastrophe, ravages of war) + avacyn. Also Cataclysm is a good stuff. Be aware this will not work agaisn blue mages because they play leyline of anticipation, and if they have it  they can steal avacyn, or if they do not have it...they will bounce yours. They don care about lands becasue the blue mages have rock mana available anyway.

you do need some rock acceleration (mana artifacts) as playing one land per turn against an alliance of players will net get you very far (archenemy without the archenemy cards is a loss). You need to get ahead. An azusa deck will get over you mana denial and over you eventually.

Oher useful cards :Godhead of awe, Sun titan, Vesuvan shapeshifter + Brine elemental (pickles combo),  Decree of justice (cycling goes under dovescape or other counterspells and is instant).

Be carefull when playing this as players will remember you and might not play with you again.

Also bear in mind that are other powerful combos : pester-jiki out of a boseiju (to go over dovescape) Tooth and nail will ruin your plan (and everyone else) (i knwo as i play that in mealstrom wanderer deck. Even with propaganda it can bring other ench destroyer (krosan grip is a staple).

be aware of kaalia deck as putting into play and attacking goes over dovescape and propaganda effect. And a Rakdos the defiler blow is ...... excruciating. With Sunhome is The end for the receiver of the blow.
