Topic: My Bogbrew standard concoction.

Hi,

I wanted to create a standard deck with the Bogbrew Witch cycle I bought, for the flavor ^^.
So I ended up with this. http://deckbox.org/sets/492766

Saccing a lot of creatures to gain life, getting card advantage with Dark Prophecy and the witch, getting my newts back with Immortal Servitude.

Endless sacrifice with Tenacious Dead, for pumping the Blood Bairn, or Gaining life.

Do you have any advice, Might wanna swap out the Blood Bairn for a Sanguine Bond

Thanks!

Re: My Bogbrew standard concoction.

What about Ogre Slumlord?  It has synergy with your rats, triggers on creatures dying and gives you more things to sacrifice.  Also I like the idea of Sanguine Bond.

Re: My Bogbrew standard concoction.

So first off, the suggestion of Ogre Slumlord strikes me as a good one.  I would also say to drop Hythonia, Nightmare, and Abhorrent Overlord for 3x Sanguine Bond (or potentially Vizkopa Guildmage as an alternative).  I would focus on SMALL 1-2 drop creatures that you'll happily sack to Bubbling Cauldron as it, paired with Dark Prophecy actually sounds like a decent engine.  But something like Sanguine Bond/Guildmage should be your win-con.

A few thoughts aside from what I state above:

1) Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is going to be nice in any monocolored deck as it can easily result in a ramping action - see Cabal Coffers if you're unsure.  It's a slightly different effect, but it's quite the useful card.

2) Whip of Erebos could be big here, as you can use it to reanimate things and then turn around and sack them to the cauldron before you exile them at the end of the turn (yes, they still get exiled, but still).

3) Sadly the timing of this deck is about a month late, as Blood Artist would've fit in here beautifully.  Without this ability though, you really don't have much punch to finish games.

4) Hero's Downfall will be huge for you.  If there were a black sweeper, that would be awesome, but there really isn't one for the time being.

5) Quag Sickness is decent SB tech for a deck with a lot of black as it can translate into a god killer if they ever get Heliod/Purphoros/Thassa online.

Anywhom, seems neat enough to fiddle with.  I can say that you're likely going to lose at FNMs and such, a LOT, but then again, playing with something different is always a lot of fun.

Good luck!

Re: My Bogbrew standard concoction.

If you do add in Sanguine Bond, you may want to consider Trading Post as an alternate way to gain life, use that life, and recur your cauldrons.  Also you don't want to be too weak to Pithing Needle by relying on one card too much, so I'd see it as good redundancy.  It also would let you cut the number of Cauldrons down since you can search the Cauldron out with the Witch.

If you add a splash of white with the guild mage you may want to look at this deck Frank Lepore wrote an article on which used Angelic Accord.

Re: My Bogbrew standard concoction.

Thanks for your advice,

Just played a couple of games with the deck, but 2 Sanguine Bond's, 2 Abhorrent Overlords and a Nightmare.

It worked quite okay, ish.. its a bit slow.. to get the engine rolling, and I didn't really get to see much Bogbrew witch.
The Abhorrent Overlord is a bomb, but doesn't really work with the deck, (besides the harpies), so I've cut that.

I read your comments before the game to make adjustments. (adding the sanguine bond, losing the blood bairn)
The Ogre Slumlord really fits in this deck.. I'll buy that..

When adding the Trading Post, I don't know what I should cut. I do agree that currently my deck runs on the Bubbling Cauldron, so making it a bit safer isnt that bad.

I don't wanna splash white, I wanted to make a deck around the Bogbrew Witch, and not having to buy a lot of cards.
I did pull a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx out of a booster, but its pretty expensive, so itll be a 1-of. Same with Hero's Downfall.

I think I'll run at the FNM next friday, I hope it works okay smile
