Topic: G/W Flash / Anti-blue Standard

Looking for comments and suggestions for my deck I am trying to build.  I noticed at FNM that blue devotion and blue control decks are fairly popular.  However, how do you think this will fair against non-blue decks?

Re: G/W Flash / Anti-blue Standard

Against mono-blue devotion, you're rather well suited.  Against pretty much anything else, I'm thinking ANY deck with black, you're likely going to have a problem.

The issue here is that the strategy seems entirely directed at beating blue decks, when, let's be honest, the standard metagame at the moment only has 2-3 decks that run counters in any significant number.  Esper Rich Kid - aka Esper Superfriends - aka Esper Control is the most prominent among them and, well, it has a TON of answers beyond counters to deal with most of your threats.

A lot of the pro-blue things should go in the sideboard and you should develop a clearer strategy of how you would like you deck to play, what the major plays are, and how you expect to win games.  Then build around said strategy and, again, leave most of the counter hate and anti-blue stuff for the SB to slide in against a blue or counter-heavy matchup.

Re: G/W Flash / Anti-blue Standard

I get wanting to heavily answer the blue decks in you're area, but you have to also be more flexible in case you show up and everyone has changed gears to mono black.  They have enough removal and life drain to really put a hurt on this deck..

Your best bet is to build a solid deck with a side board, perhaps 1 - 2 cards MD to defeat your blue matchups.

Something like this. http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdat … ckID=60381

Keep in mind that cards like fleecemane and Witchstalker are already hexproof and kind of "anti control".  Against mono blue, you just need to race them and be faster.

Re: G/W Flash / Anti-blue Standard

Took your advice, did an overhaul of the deck.  Added some more removal in the form of Pit Fight and Time to Feed.   Added some devotion and permanents with mana costs that help the devotion.    Moved most of the anti-blue hate to the sideboard.  I still like Savage Summoning, even when not playing against a Blue counter deck, simply because I can flash in a creature for surprise blocking or on the opponents end step, and giving the creature a small boost in a +1/+1 counter.  For a Kalonian Hydra the one extra +1/+1 counter is significant, since when it attacks it will go from a 5/5 to a 10/10 instead of 4/4 to 8/8.

sorry, here is a link to the new version:  http://deckbox.org/sets/531856

Re: G/W Flash / Anti-blue Standard

I'm okay with pit fight as removal, since  it's instant and you can do some tricky stuff with the bow since it provides death touch while attacking.

I don't like time to feed. It's a 3 mana sorcery and a little slow.  plus I think you need more dudes. I want to see some burning tree emmissary sylvan carytid and voyaging satyr in a devotion deck.  Also if you go mono green you can run nylea's disciple for some bueno lifegain.

Re: G/W Flash / Anti-blue Standard

I feel like I would be drowning in mana with Sylvan Caryatid andVoyaging Satyr.  Plus, they don't seem to be as valuable in this particular deck because it's mono colored.   I only have three permanents that have a >=5 mana converted mana cost, and three permanents that are =4 converted mana cost.

Re: G/W Flash / Anti-blue Standard

it's about consistency.  A consistent turn 3 Arbor Collossus or garruk is pretty good.  Nykthos would also be something you'd want to get a hold of for this type of deck.
