Notes
Well ok guys, you got your wish granted! I have sat down and made a NON budget version of my $20 Budget Mikaeus deck!
Now most of the deck has been changed in favor of more generic "good" cards. What used to be a deck focused only on one thing has slowed down a lot, but now has multiple ways to win and is far more reliable. It's no longer as one-shot win or lose as it used to be previously.
One major change is the lack of sacrifice outlets, especially among the creatures! Now with the vast increase in tutors (and more artifact sac outlets) we can afford to run more creatures that are better in a vacuum, and instead tutor into the combo pieces! I still kept some of the best around though.
As you probably noticed, the price on this deck is WAY higher than the original! However, when the goal of this deck is to be used as an inspiration for your future upgrades, you can adapt parts of it at the time. This way, you will know which cards you can add regardless of your price limit.
Still, I avoided some of the most expensive cards in the format.Namely, Imperial Seal, Mana Crypt and Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed. These are three additions that will skyrocket the deckprice but are auto-includes in any mono black deck if you have them.
Cards I kept from the original deck:
Grim Haruspex
Crypt Ghast
Lingering Tormentor
Triskelion
Burnished Hart
Tatterkite
Gray Merchant of Asphodel
Dark Ritual
Dimir Machinations
Sign in Blood
Sol Ring
Nevinyrral's Disk
Blasting Station
Mind Stone
Unstable Obelisk
Infernal Darkness
Diabolic Servitude
Bojuka Bog
There are many more cards from the original that could have come with to the new decklist (Like Diabolic Tutor, Phyrexian Reclamation, the killspells etc) but I chose to be pretty unforgiving when it came to replacing cards.
The new cards
Due to the lack of budget, there are a few cards that seperate themselves from the majority in terms of price. Cutting these cards will lower the decks price by $300, although if you can run them then it is a good idea!
Damnation
Kozilek, Butcher of Truth
Bitterblossom
Vampiric Tutor
Sensei's Divining Top
Cavern of Souls
Volrath's Stronghold
Maze of Ith
Grim Monolith
All the remaining cards in the deck are $15 or less!
The new combos
Ok, theres so many combos in here (as with the previous deck) that listing them all takes far more time than it's worth, but there are a few new ones worth mentioning.
Contamination + Ophiomancer or Bitterblossom + Contamination = All nonblack decks are locked down. These are also awesome cards on their own (And Contamination "wins" with any mikaeus loop, go figure).
Phyrexian Altar, Ashnod's Altar + Any loop gets you infinite black or colorless mana. We now have many ways to utilize this mana, for example removing the counters with Hex Parasite or Retribution of the Ancients. If you are sacrificing a card like Kokusho, the Evening Star or Gray Merchant of Asphodel, you win! There are also many other cards that can abuse this, like infinite draw with Skullclamp or Grim Haruspex, infinite scry with Viscera Seer and much more.
Many of the new cards are here to help redundancy in the case of tutors, or give you the mana you want to win!
