Notes

The general goal for the deck is large oozes or hydras by turn 3, 4 and 5.

Turn one, Forest tapped for Elvish Mystic.
Turn two, three mana in pool for a Verdant Haven.
Turn three, 5 mana in pool to bring out a Kalonian Hydra. (or anything else for that matter)

Ooze Flux and Bioshift will help mass a huge army or make other creatures larger when one is targeted by removal.

tried out this deck at FNM this last Friday.  I went 3-2.  The two losses were to control decks, I got beat very handily.  Kalonian Hydra was the major threat in every game I won.  Scavenging Ooze proved to be useful in one of the games.  Burst of Strength was a life saver multiple times.  Trying to decide how to deal with control decks now.  going to re-arrange the side board.

finding that I am overwhelmed with mana when I have the Verdant Haven's. Switched them out for Deadly Recluse since the two drop death touch with reach can be nice.  We will see though, since they don't evolve my Gyre Sages

With the addition of Bioshift and Ooze Flux, I can essentially "prevent" removal of my creatures with the exception of full board wipes.  Elvish Mystic and Verdant Haven are essential for having enough mana to make the Scavening Ooze and the Vastwood Hydra larger.  I may take out Wurm in favor of something else, since I don't quite have as many sources of life gain needed to be benefical in the early game.

Primordial Hydra might be a viable replacement for the Wurm, and gives you a mana dump outlet as a late-game top-deck if you don't have Ooze or graveyard targets. it would also give you Cavern of Souls-able creature types for most of your deck in the control matchups if you want to try that.

You might also have the mana to support something like Windstorm over Aerial Predation, which can be a better choice against decks with lots of small, flying creatures which get buffed, such as Spirit tribal token decks or white-weenie/evasive blue decks in general.

yeah, Primordial Hydra is good, but will be rotating out of standard eventually.  So I have been trying to avoid using M13 and Innistrad block for this deck.  The reason why I like Aerial Predation is because of the removal but also the life gain, so I could bring out a larger Wurm during second main phase.

Ah, gotcha - I wasn't looking with an eye for post-rotation. There are rumors about legendary focus and tribal support in Theros and beyond, so there's a good chance you'll get some decent Hydra dudes.
