    I think a 2 mana anthem is a lot better than Spear of Heliod , I've never seen anyone use the ability.

    I'm missing an obvious win condition here aren't I? Yes you're gaining a shedload of life, but if I can deal with Serra Ascendant, what is the threat?

            (assumed it'd be something I'd missed!)
            It'd only be turn 2 that Serra is going to be cast though, so swinging turn 3?
            I guess I'd use my Azorius Charm to send it back to top of library, then sideboard Meddling Mage to stop it from coming back.

              No, play it on T1, then play and sac a Martyr of Sands on T2, gets you to 32 life if you're lucky, swing with a 6/6 lifelink on T2.
              Nothing stops you doing either of those things, but I won't be too sad to have to replay a 1 mana card, and a meddling mage hitting this means that the Ajani's pridemates are ok from it :)

      It can act as a free tutor for godless shrine:
      Tap it for mana
      Play another one, use the death ability on the first to tutor out the shrine
      Tap the 2nd one for mana
