I was a casual player who got into it on the behest of some promo alpha and betas from the shop where my friends worked -they kept giving me cards to get me to play when when Magic first came out.
I mostly collected for the artwork, and hardly played except in the mid 90's for a year or so, right when my old cards freaked out the local kids.

I just got back into casual deck building but I'm completely unfamiliar with anything in the new format -since they changed the standard card layout and graphics -while the rules seem to have improved finally, the cards are crazy now!

I mostly only buy.
