Maybe make it an "Accepting Trades" and "Not Accepting Trades" option, sometimes we're not on vacation per se but on vacation from Magic...?

Do we have mods who would/could mediate a trade to also protect new people (especially from bad experiences and not ever wanting to use this system again)? Usually I would just ask them to send first if they have less ref's than I do.

MTGSalvation does that, they just don't have anyone on the west coast or rockies. That's something worth considering here though I think.

That is a very good point, I think they try to account for that at MTGSalvation by looking for duplicate emails/IP addresses right? That would be a hard thing to protect against without checking everyone's drivers license.

True enough and I would consider a $15 trade like the OP was talking about a small trade. But yah, it can and will happen eventually, just gotta try and do small trades with the rookies and bigger trades with the vets.

I've found this annoying as well, I try to just tell people that I'm already trading for or have traded cards and they understand. The add/remove cards from your wishlist/inventory feature is nice, but I find it to be inaccurate so I end up doing that part manually myself.

Whops I accidentally hit report post instead of quote (Was trying to reply to your post specifically), please ignore that sorry.

Here is my reply:

I think that would help. Regarding a condition of cards though; I would be careful about that, people should only rate it poorly if they are in a condition different from what was described or pictured. It would also help if the site encouraged people to post pictures of their cards during the trade negotiation (Hosting the image would be nice too even if only temporarily, or make it easy to use an outside hosting service and we just put in multiple URLs for our cards).

I'm unsure on your policy regarding in-person trades. Whether or not you want us to be able to rate them or not, and if they should be counted. I know this isn't strictly related to disputes, but it is related to how we rate each others trades and in that context it may be relevant.

Personally I think we should be able to rate them, and have them counted separately from mail trades (So two different stats). Reason being that some of us might be willing to travel to do a trade in person if we live in an area where people are spread out and not likely to meet at an LGS on a regular basis but might be able to meet up for a good trade. This is true for me in Los Angeles, where I recently had a mail trade with someone but when we realized we were within 40 miles of each other we opted to meet in person instead (Of course we didn't know this until we had both exchanged addresses). This should probably be classified as an in-person trade not a mail trade but there was no way to change it at that point.

Other scenarios where I might see this being useful is if two people agree to meet at an event, such as a Grand Prix or a Star City Open. It would be nice to know if the person has a good history of showing up for the trade with the cards in hand if we're going to make that trip.

...

Beyond that, as others have said elsewhere I agree that we shouldn't rate people badly for trading slow. As long as no one has sent cards in the mail and it's just taking a long time for people to come to a decision, we shouldn't be rating people badly for that as no one got ripped off. It's annoying sure, and maybe there should be ways to rate people besides just +1 and -1 like: Fast trade/Slow Trade, Good Shipping/Poor Shipping, Honest Trade/Ripped Off.

You might want to put what you have available for trade in your tradelist, as then it will automatically match up what you have for trade with what we have for trade. I'm assuming everything listed in your inventory is available since you linked to that directly, but you might want to think about doing that as it simplifies things.

Ah your back from your trip (Or whatever it was, your profile says you're away till the 11th)? Cool, I'll start a trade with you this afternoon (About to head out for the morning).

Hey guys, I'm looking for finish up my EDH deck so I can start playing at the weekly tournaments at my regular store. I have a number of decks I am trying to complete actually but I figure I'll focus on just one with this post. You can see my entire Want List Here and Cards Available for Trade Here. For my EDH deck I am mostly looking for Angels and some utility creatures and spells, board wipes and the like. Here is a list of what I need just to finish my EDH deck...

Linvala, Keeper of Silence
Adarkar Valkyrie
Yosei, the Morning Star
Damnation
Fetid Heath
Rugged Prairie
Strip Mine (Any Edition)
Tectonic Edge (Any Edition)

The cards need to be in Good condition, but don't have to be pristine. Just so long as they're not in poor shape with folds, lots of scratches and/or white marks, tears etc. Basically what most shops call "Some Play" is fine with me. I trade via USPS with Delivery Confirmation in top loaders inside a bubble wrap envelope, limited to the continental United States (Sorry Alaska & Hawaii). And if you live in Southern California I might even be willing to meet you in person to do the trade so it can be done that match faster.

While outside of Southern California, many of us frequently travel to Las Vegas for business and/or pleasure. While we're out there gambling or what have you we may as well take some time to play some cards on the side, and no I don't mean Blackjack or Poker. Playing Magic in other cities is a great way to discover new playstyles and metas. it's also great to see what people have available for trade that you might not be able to find back home.

Where can I go to play Modern? How about Legacy? Commander or Vintage?

It can be hard to find stores that host events in your area, especially more obscure events. Maybe you'd even be willing to go a little out of your way every few weeks if it meant you got the chance to break out the rarely played Vintage deck. You can check the store listings on the WOTC site, but sadly stores don't keep this resource updated with accurate information, and they suffer for it. Many don't have information on their website either, if they even have a website. The best way to find out what's going on at a store is to pick up the phone and call them, ask them what events they host and when.

To help get you started though, below is a compiled list of local shops that hold Magic the Gathering events. This list does not include places that only sell Magic singles and/or boosters, while that's nice to know it's better to support places where we can actually sit down and play. If you're favorite local store isn't listed, or you are a store and want to be listed, please post a reply with the relevant information and it'll get added to the board.

Events are color tagged, all limited events such as Draft, Standard, Block Constructed (Current Block) and Extended will be Red. Eternal formats such as Vintage, Legacy and Modern will be Blue for Vintage & Legacy and Teal for Modern & Block Party. Multiplayer formats like Commander/EDH, and Two headed dragon will be Orange. Casual play, where people can play whatever decks they want to bring are tagged Green and Yu-Gi-Oh is Purple (Some of us do play a little Yu-Gi-Oh on the side so it's nice to know where we can play both). Stores may change what events they hold without notice, and the information here may be out of date, it is meant to be used as a guide to help one figure out what is available and where in Southern California.

If multiple events are listed for the same day at a store, and they have -and- written between them that means both events take place at the same time on that day. If events have an -or- written between them, that means those events are held on alternating days, such as Standard one week and Draft the other. If an event has an Asterisk * next to it, that's an indication that the event is not held regularly and that whether it takes place is likely dependent on how many people show up or some other criteria. Always remember to call ahead to a store you haven't visited before to confirm that the information listed here is accurate for the day in question you wish to visit...

Posts will be pruned from this thread over time, relevant info will always be available on the front page...

I'd really like to be able to specify which editions and quality etc of my cards are in my deck. For example my modern decks all use new card face reprints but my legacy decks prefer the old card face. So I have collections of both types in my inventory, but no way on the site to see which go into which deck. Just bringing over what already exists in inventory control to deck control would do it.
