Marshal's Anthem
Silver Seraph
Glorius Anthem
Dictate of Heliod
Angelic Shield
mikaeus, the unhallowed
Oathsworn Giant
Elesh norn

id put in like 1-4 of these (depending on which 4! your budget etc)

and then take out 1-4 cards that pull creatures out of your graveyard and put them into your hand.

Condemn also seems particularly mean to use against Elesh Norn (I assume if their commander?)

Still gets you about $150 with mono red burn and that's about as cheap as you can probably go and still plan to do anything at a local modern tournament.

I honestly think he'd be better off buying the event deck and tweaking it over time.

I largely agree but I think this is relatively workable at least. It would be rough but that is the life of budget decks. Saving for the event deck is definitely a solid plan though.

Somewhere in there I missed the part where I Wanted to mention I did a really really cut budget Burn that might do ok.

Well theres the Burn decks in Modern. They're always competitive for relatively cheap.

Goblins might be more viable with Rabblemaster being printed but again slightly higher price tag.

The new Sliver Deck looks like it should be solid for a slightly higher budget. (Probably~300 with fancy lands)

There is a mono black Vampire Deck that has posted some decent results but Vampires are a popular creature type so tend to be alittle more expensive.

There is also a red-green werewolf deck people are trying but I dont think its ever really come completely together yet.

Edit:

So you probably want to play Mono Red Burn then.

lol we both get along too well I think.

The new Erayo, Soratami Ascendant affinity decks are abit cheaper too I think.

well that was my thinking, you specifically referenced Elesh norn, it seemed like A Dictate of Heliod or other similar high power high cost anthems would probably sort out Elesh Norn and similar but you would still be vulnerable to wrath effects.

when you consider 8 rack doesnt need the sort of massive land investment many other decks need it can be a mixed bag.

A nice blinged out 8 rack is cheaper than many other decks of comparable competitive level but the cards are more limited in what they are useful for.

Is it specifically AoE removal that gets you?

You could look into the various anthems available. Or since you're running blue slot in a few Counter spells?

I'd also recommend a Spotlight in the deck (I run and Merieke deck too) and the major problem I run into is hexprooof guys ruining my day.

The event deck is surprisingly solid if direct strategy.

Did you have a specific style of deck you wanted to play? (Combo? Control? Aggro?) That makes it easier for us to say as well.

If i summon a flash creature on my opponent's turn and give it haste can i attack with it on that turn?

no. You can only ever attack during your own turn.

Tenacious Dead would be a good stand in for the moment but having the option to leave skellies in the yard for a bit before you bring them back is always nice!

Taking another look I would personally take away a couple more things for some more creatures.

-1 Victim
-2 Dark Ritual
-1 vraska

+4 Royal Assassin

And then I would look for survivable creatures. YOu want stuff that can come back repeatedly to keep sticking swords on right? SO maybe Try and get 2 Reassembling Skeletons in there?

Nekratal is also pretty solid.

So Is this Competitive legacy? Or Casual? *Confused* It sounds like casual but I wanted to confirm. So thats the assumption I'll go with for the moment.

Your major issue here IMO is that you're sort of relying on 4 Jittes to do the heavy lifting but at the same time you've only got 12 creatures to stick it on.  (You're also only 59/60)

Personally I'd do something like...

-3 Fire shrieker
-1 Bileblight
-1 Hymm
-2 Doom Blade main deck

+2 Victim of the Night Main Deck (Ever noticed that most black creatures are Vampires and or Zombies? big_smile So basically you just hit more with this card in general.)
+6 Creatures

Dark Ritual is also pretty good but Im not sure it entirely adds a whole lot of value to the deck specifically. Most of your stuff is fairly cheap as is.

Without access to sylvan caryatid's and better multi-colored lands I wouldn't recommend splashing a 3rd color in the deck. It would be more inconsistent.

With a suite of land untappers you can feasibly use some of the guild gates reasonably well. Or even unknown shores if you're only goal is to tap for a single red source once in the game.

arbiter of the ideal seems like it would be easier to abuse and play with then what you're doing right now to some extent. Or at least like it could fill in bigger threat slots just fine on the cheap.

Alternatively you could look into splashing red for clan defiance?

I think in general Coat of Arms is considered too expensive to be truly effective in a competitive setting but I still like it more than paradise mantle! big_smile

Pernicious Deed Technically hits alittle bit less then Gaze of Granite does (Im looking at you Planeswalkers...god I still don't even like you in the game sad ) But the big thing is you can sac it at Instant Speed to mess with your opponent on their turn!

Right so the basic concept here is sort of two seperate paths you can go.

Consume Spirit still requires black manage to pull off so I dont like it in the deck flat out.

Right now you're focusing alot on stuff like Cabal Coffers and Urborg to give you Black Mana so you can exsanguinate/gaze. But at the same time you're focusing alot on All your elves to boost out Mana and they dont really tie into each other all that well.

I guess I would say I see three Potential decks here that do similar things but in slightly different ways and you've tried to put 2-3 of them all into one deck!

Deck 1 - Black Consume Spirit/Exsanguinate/Lifedrain Deck
Cabal Coffers, Urborg, and creatures like Nirkana Revenant and (I cant remember the other one now...) who let you tap for extra Black Mana are key here.

Deck 2 - Green Elf Mana Ramp into Assorted Expensive Cards.
Nykthos, Archdruid and Priest of Titania provide you with huge gobs of Mana. Which you then use to play World Spine wurm or something else big like that.

Deck 3  - 12 Post Variant
The 2 Locus + Thespan Stage + Vesvuva and then a few odds and ends like Voyaging Satyr to untap your Locus again. Use your huge wads of Colour Mana to Fireball or Emrakul someone to death. Fun!

I just think you're trying to do too much at once in your current deck.

Candelabra of Tawnos was the card I was thinking of. It let you abuse the heck out of lands like the locus.
Also Note: Gaze of Granite is just a worse Pernicious Deed so if you're gonna be playing competitive legacy look for the deed!

Modern Decks can consistent get off a Turn 4-5 Emrakul Im 100% Sure that Legacy can do the same or better if needed.

If you're looking to play more casually my advice still stands. But you can get away with playing a deck much closer to what you showed us without any problem.

Paradise mantle just really has very little to no use in the deck.... You'd be better off with Expedition Map or Sylvan Scrying so at least you can grab a useful special land. Actually now that Im looking at it again Elves of Deep Shadow or Lanowar elves would probably be better than Heritage Druid as well. Again all your stuff except heritage taps for mana already...so do we really need the one to enable non tappers to do it?

If you have 20 creatures for Epic Struggle you're probably gonna win anyway.

I've been looking at doing a Naya Wolf EDH deck but just cant find a commander I like for it...

Immerwolf and Huntmaster don't play too nicely together in general.

Some good cards to consider
Lone Wolf is also pretty solid
Howling Wolf Good way to get some extra Card Advantage and reprint in Conspiracy
Predator's howl Nice new Conspiracy card pretty solid.

Some not quite as good cards to consider
Tolsimir Wolfblood Is a super cool card that fits the theme nicely.
Wren's Run Packmaster Another good wolf lord, but requires an elf on the board.
Sound the Call This doesnt seem AS good but its a cool card.

all your creatures tap for mana why do you need Paradise Mantles?

You also have a mostly green deck that than tries to rely on Cabal Coffers for Black mana. What about Nykthos Shrine to Nyx instead of Coffers?

There was a deck for Vintage (12Post I believe?) that revolved around Candalbera, Cloudpost and Vesuva to generate huge stockpiles of mana. You may be able to recreate a similar deck in Legacy using Cloud Posts, Vesuva and Thespian Stage. And then something to untap the cloudposts (Voyaging Satyr??)

You'd be stuck into something more like a Fireball, or Emrakul to win but it seems like it has alot of potential to me.

Im not really sure what Thassa adds to the deck. Alot of decks run Islands OR you have Spreading Seas so all your stuff is unblockable already. Is an out of Tribe Scry effect worth the slot?

The scry is actually pretty nice if I can remember it for mid to late game to keep me off something like aethervial, or hitting another land I may not need. And if she is active, she's an indestructible, unblockable 5/5. Sure she may not add to the tribal aspect much, but she has a decent amount to make up for it. She's kind of in between in my mind when I compare the slot to certain cards still.

Its certainly comparable to something like Think Tank that was pretty powerful in standard at the time. Im just not sure about in Merfolk. I havent piloted a merfolk deck though so Im not sure if Im the best person to help you.

It was around $20 before being reprinted. Id imagine it will linger near there eventually.

This looks alot like most RU Delver Tempo decks so you could look there for more general advice. You seem to have a touch too much Card Draw (IMO). Think about dropping the sleight of Hand or the prob for more utility/support options for Delver and Pyromancer. Likewise Im not entirely sure if you can really protect the delver too much to make sure it sticks.

its likely partly also a limited number of people selling. All the middle ground values around $5 have been bought out. Leaving only outliers in the $20 range.

As a one off perhaps.

With Gitaxian Probe, what do you do with the card you draw from their hand? Do you add it to your hand and play it? Do you pay the mana cost? I can't find an answer.

And I agree with every other recommendation you made. I was iffy about Tome Scour, too. Grapeshot is a new card to me but I really like the look of it in this deck. Armed//Dangerous was just going to be Armed here, but I get your point, and it is one of the only cards that I picked that didn't fit the theme. Other than Mizzium Mortars. But what could I cut Mizz for? I could cut it and add more Chandra, Pyromaster I guess. But thanks for looking at it, this is a big help.

I think MIzzium mortars fits, they're clearly some sort of Steam Punky Cannony thing being fired thats reasonable.

I'd slot in more Card Draw over MOrtars I suppose. Serum Visions, Ponder, Preordain, Braintstorm. Something like that.

Gitaxian Probe doesnt draw a card from their hand. You just look at their hand then draw a card from your deck.
