With the Hydra, remember, it's better to play it for X=1 than to wait a turn to play it for X=2.

Now I will tell you that Predator's Rapport is worthless.  It costs too much to really be effective, replace them Giant Growth.  That being said, also ditch all of the enchantments.  They are taking up space that could be better used.  Replace four of them with Rancor, Four of them with Strangleroot Geist, and the last two with with two more forests.  20 lands isn't quite enough in a deck with no mana acceleration.

I tried to keep my suggestions cost effective, as I don't know the kind of budget you're working with.  I assume since you're new that you don't have a whole lot to work with yet.  Hopefully, that helps.

I like that concept.  That way, people have a comprehensive resource right here on the forums.

The first thing that sticks out to me is the milling cards you have in here.  You don't have enough to win by decking your opponent out, and what you have is detracting from the rest of the deck.  I would probably ditch all the stuff that says 'put cards from library into graveyard' in favor of more burn, and counter magic.

So that's what you take out, here's some stuff to put in:
Searing Spear - the best two mana burn spell in standard right now.
Dissipate - probably the best counter spell in standard right now.
Mizzium Mortars - good for either spot removal, or a one sided board wipe later in the game.
Unsummon - cheap guttersnipe trigger, and can bounce a creature so you can counter it later.

with all these added spells, I might also recommend adding Delver of Secrets, as he is Guttersnipe's best friend.

I hope that helps!

Ah, but lotus petal is a great target for Tinker, which can turn that petal into a blightsteel colossus.

Well, since he is playing with two lotuses, I would think playing with 4 tinker would be allowed.  Also, the artifact lands from the original Mirrodin block come in handy to splash color and as fodder for the tinker to get a blightsteel colossus out very early game.

Oh yeah, there are absolutely no format/legality restrictions with this guy.  No holds barred.

Man, there is all sorts of good stuff in that post.  Thanks for the plethora of useful information!

I thought they were legal in Standard (if the cards are printed in Standard).

I like black and red usually. But looking at a first glance to my cards looks like blue / white (especially multi color) are predominant.
As play style I prefer aggro more than control.

This is true.  As long as it shares the name of a card that is standard legal, then it is standard legal itself.

I'm confused why you have Graven Cairns in there, you don't seem to have a use for black mana.

Also, with only 20 lands, over half of your creatures cost a whole lot.  I might cut two of the Charmbreakers and two of the Fire Servants, and replace them with some more burn.  Maybe add a couple of X spells like Devil's Play and Comet Storm.

Also, no lightning bolts?  Replace shock with lightning bolt, it is purely better.

Also, I might add either Koth of the Hammer for some ramp into free fireballs, or Chandra the Firebrand so you can copy some spells for even more effect.

It's just Stonewright, and it is a great, inexpensive one drop. smile

Hello fine people of deckbox, here is my quandary.

I love artifact themed decks, and I'm wanting to building a pretty bitchin' one for casual play.  The thing that I'm trying to figure out is if mono white, mono blue, or W/U together makes the more efficient build.  I want this deck to be able to smash a friend of mine with very expensive cards (power 9).

First, let me tell you about his deck:
He plays G/W control.  Lots of cards like Balance, Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile, Wrath of God, etc... and has few creatures (but good ones) like Thrun, Sigarda, and a few others I can't remember.  He also plays original duals, Mox's and two Lotuses.  So far, the only thing that I've been able to beat him with are straight aggro decks.  Tribal Elves, and Goblins, to be exact.

So with that in mind, is an artifact deck viable against this type of build?  I don't mind having an expensive deck, but I'm not going power 9 with it.  As for my quandary, let me tell you what I like about each color,

White: Has dispatch, which easily becomes one of the best removal spells available.  Also Tempered Steel, which is a most excellent anthem.  Decent tutelage, good recursion, and Hanna's Custody seems like it would be good against his deck.  Also enchantment hate for his Asceticism.

Blue: Easily the best artifact tutors in the game.  Between Tinker, Tezzeret, and Fabricate, you should never be without a decent card.  Also, cards like Etherium Sculptor and Master Transmuter make it really easy to get your bombs out.

So what say you?  I'm tired of losing to this guy, and I want to beat him with something other than mindless aggro.   Thanks for taking the time to read this nonsense, and extra thanks to anybody who replies!

To be honest, there isn't much control in this deck.  But to echo what Mr. Pablo said above, you should focus more on the aggro side of things.  I have a few recommendations:

Replace Magmaquake and Flames of the Firebrand with Mizzium Mortars.  They are more cost-effective, and can potentially wipe your opponents creatures, leaving you with a wide open attack.

Take out the high cost creatures.  Aggro needs to be fast.  Looking at something that costs 6, when you really need something that costs two is terrible.

On that note, more one drops!  You only have 4 one drop creatures, and it's not even a sure thing that he hits the field.  You want creatures early, and often.  Don't get stuck with spells when you need critters.

I have to agree.  It's better just to start from scratch for this.  I really love the idea of having a list like this to help the EDH newbs, but I feel this list is giving a bit of misdirection to them.

The legality of proxies is not a gray area.

If you take one card and turn it into another card, it is the legal definition of counterfeiting.

Example: I take a foil Jhessian Lookout, de-ink it, and make it into a Liliana of the Veil proxy. I will be trading/selling it as something it is not.

There are methods of making proxies that involve cutting away the name and cost bar at the top, leaving that exposed and original, which is legal. Zeerbe does some excellent work on these and I haven't tried it myself yet.

I can't trade you custom foils, and I'm sorry to hear that you don't live near a place that can print things for you. I would suggest you prepare your cards, nine to a page, and make a special trip somewhere. Make sure you bein a card to check the size of the printing.

I currently live in a mountain town which has no print shop, but at least once a month, we drive down into real cities for cheaper groceries.

If you need a hand with the process, I'm happy to help, though different boards have different rules for discussing the creation of these cards.

I am banned from MTGS for repeated violations of their policy of no discussing the how-to of the physical aspect, but reddit mods got in touch with me over discussion of the digital. I don't know deckbox's policy.

It's all good.  I did enjoy reading the article you posted, and it is something that I intend to try for myself down the line.  It's just not particularly feasible for me at the moment.  Thank you for your input on this, I truly do appreciate it.  smile

Does anyone here have the capability to make decent looking proxies?  If so, I'm willing to trade some real cards to somebody who can make a few proxies for me.  I don't have a printer, or even a copy shop that is decently close to me, and I want to fill out a couple of casual decks with cards that I simply can't afford.

Either reply here, or send me a trade request and we can hash out the finer details.  Also, if this isn't kosher to post here, let me know and I will remove the topic.

The trades are still rolling in, awesome.  I'm getting pretty close to finishing this off.  Keep 'em coming.

Are you backing an Entire EDH deck?  That thing is gonna be a bitch to shuffle.

Bumping.  Added Dragon's Maze goodies.

Sac'ing the creature is an activation cost, so you'll pay that first.  Since the creature dies, it's persist will happen, and then the Pod's ability will go on the stack.  So it goes like this:

Tap Mana
Tap Pod
Sac Creature
Creature returns with persist
Search your library
New creature comes into play
Shuffle library.

I could be wrong, but I am almost positive this is correct.

Bumping for squirrelly goodness.

I guess I'm blessed by not having any such expensive cards.  To be fair, I rarely try to trade for anything over $15.

I believe another reason is that it is still possible to have the same card committed to multiple trades.  I'd like to have a way to pull my cards out of my inventory at the point we agree on the terms.

For the love of all that is good, yes!

I like that I've had trades with almost everyone on this thread.

Honestly, I must be blessed, as I can only remember a couple of traders that were rude, or non-communicative. Most people I've traded with have been polite and honest. Luckily my first few were with nice, experienced traders - and that's just the way I thought things were around here.  I could list several people who have gone above and beyond, and I'm still meeting more.

Til;dr? Thanks to the people who treat people
