Hello,

I assume you are trying to add Lance to your sets, and having problems with the dropdown. It's a pretty annoying issue, and maybe we should redo the sorting of that autocompleter dropdown.

In the mean time the solution is just type Lance in the edit box, and press escape when the dropdown appears. Then press enter or click Add (while still having just 'Lance' written in the textbox). It will correctly add it.

Correct, at the time of my writing the format legality code, there was a strict rule of  Standard decks being legal in everything, Extended being legal also in everything except Standard etc. So Standard < Extended < Modern < Vintage < Legacy.

I know there have been (maybe still are?) some exceptions to this, but I've never looked very closely at the implications. For the sake of simplicity I decided to just show one.

Hello guys, time for the beginning of november status report smile

Security

We now have an https enabled for signup, login and user profile editing, so your email and password will be much more secure! We'll think about maybe extending the https support for the other parts of the website as well at some point.

Card prices

Tcgplayer, our price provider have a new shiny API for a while now, and we updated our price fetching code. The upside is that cards which had no price before, or a price of 0, or a bit off, now should be working correctly and more accurately.

The second good thing is that now we have prices for each edition a card is in, so in the not so distant future you can expect improved accuracy for collection value estimates, prices in card details listings etc.

Card database updates

Cryptozoic have released the new World of Warcraft Tcg set Throne of the Tides. We're now up to date (even with images for the majority of them), so you can browse the set in all its splendor here: http://deckbox.org/games/wow/cards?f=7340.39.

Warhammer:Invasion users also got a new expansion: The Inevitable City. The listing is here: http://deckbox.org/games/whi/cards?f=4323. We haven't got card images for it yet, so if there are any kind souls amongst you that would like to provide card scans, the Warhammer community will be forever grateful to you. (Well... maybe not quite forever... tongue ).

Spam

I've left this topic last because it's the least pleasant smile. Some of you may have again received some spam emails send by another deckbox user. In this new release we have included some more methods of dealing with these people, so it will never happen again.

A nice evening to you all!

Thanks for letting us know. This time there is indeed a huge traffic spike lasting the 10 minutes before your post. Now I have just the simple task of finding what it is causing it smile

Wow, a lot of great suggestions!

On the issue of OpenID, we've considered implementing it from the beginning, but somehow it was always put away. In any case, we would have it in parallel to normal login / email based signup. This is because for people who don't know about how it works, it's a complicated system that puts them off from signing up.

One of the big design flaws of openid imho is that it is appealing if you understand it, but it's confusing and needs research on first look. Smart systems should make sense from the first look to most people, or they're not picked up... sad

Anyway, coming back to the spam topic, we shall indeed go for a bit of everything smile. Captcha on the front page i'm not sure about yet, we'll start with the others. A trigger system that marks user accounts for review, like signing up from ips that have been problematic in the past, sending more than x emails in y minutes / hours, report user in email, etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions, let us know if you think of anything else, they are very helpful!

P.S. LootPinata, no OpenId, and we're definitely not going to tell any of your normal friends anything, so you're safe tongue

P.P.S xorius, the scanning for spam solution also sounds interesting but I don't know much about these systems, and I'm a bit afraid it's going to need human tweaking constantly to work. It's been noted as an idea, but i'm leaving it for last. In my naive optimism I still hope simple fast solutions will get rid of this problem quickly smile

So... they're back sad

I've put a simple captcha on the email sending page but it seems it's totally useless. We'll implement some email sending threshold, emails / day, emails / account life or something, and we'll manually check the user accounts when they are reached and ban offending accounts.

I'm not sure what else would work.

Does someone own the last set and can tell me what the last card's properties are? It's called Camp Pillage or something along those lines.

I need Name, Faction, Type, Cost, Loyalty, Power, HP, Traits, and card text.

Thank you.

Hello,

Distinct means how many different cards you have. So a deck with 5 swamps will have 5 total cards, but 1 distinct, because you only have one card type - the swamp. If you add a Lightning bolt, you would have 6 cards, 2 distinct: swamp and lightning bolt.

It's true that it does not really help to know how many distinct cards there are generally. We might remove it, to get rid of the confusion.

I have got some card data now, that I will try importing today or tomorrow. Still no images though. Anyone got some scans?

We already got one as it's needed for some facebook integration, but I haven't tested it yet.

I'll try to test it and get it up this week.

P.S I never thought bandwidth would be a problem for the hoster. I'm not too sure how to test if that is the case. Does anyone have suggestions? I'll probably install some  bandwidth / CPU logger thingie. The VPS guys don't provide too good a tool.

The host has changed one month ago, the former server was in EU, now it's in New York, so it actually should be better for the us folk. There have been intermittent problems with mysql having too many slow queries logged, which I have looked at, and are now happening very rarely.

I cannot really assess the hardware / IO issues too accurately because the machine is a OpenVZ VPS host, and from my limited understanding of the process, it still very much depends on what other hosts on the machine are doing as well (even if there is some sort of resource quota in place for cpu / ram).

I'll try to keep an eye on it these next few days. Do not hesitate to post back when it happens again. Thank you for the feedback.

Hello,

We do not keep track of token cards anymore. There are a couple of really old ones still in there because they were included in Gatherer at some point, but Wizards is not including them anymore. As we get all our data from the official database, from them, we don't by default import these into the database.

It is a possibility that we will get them from magiccards.info at some point, but they're not a priority.

Good point. We'll definitely put a link to the user profile in the email.

Hi guys,

I'll try finding a decent source for the card information, at the moment I do not have it. It looks like on the official forums there's only something very sketchy about it: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_ … idt=554366.

Fantasy Flight Games seem to be even worse at announcing and describing their product than Cryptozoic for WoW. I'm not sure why they think it's a good idea to try selling a product without telling us what it contains. I don't think geeks buy things on impulse out of curiosity without knowing what it is. At least I generally do not smile.

I'll post back when I have more info. We'll get it up somehow.

I think he means the decks on his deckbox profile (http://deckbox.org/users/loyn88) - he has 2 standard decks built. I'd contribute some opinions, but as I've not played Standard in a year, I'll let other more competent folk to chime in big_smile.

Please make the export option export card language correctly?  also, why not make the pulldown list have the language in elgish so us dumb schmucks that dont know the difference can tell what is what.
Thanks
Jeff

I'm not sure I understand what is not working for you? I see you have a bunch of cards marked as japanese in your inventory. Did you not mark them yourself as japanese?

About the dropdown, I just assumed that if you own cards in a language, you know how to spell the language's name smile. Is this an issue for other people as well? Owning cards in a different language that you do not speak? If so, I could change that.

apyrexia wrote:

The export is fantastic! Took less than 10 seconds. Quick and easy. Thank you very much!

Just one thing, the cards that show up as having $0.00 value here still show up as 0 in the export. This greatly misrepresents the actual total value of the collection. Is there any way to fix this?

Again, thank you for your hard work. Deckbox.org is amazing!

We're getting the prices from tcgplayer.com, and so we depend on how they output their pricing information (which we parse and store for display in various places). They've recently changed their API (for the better I think), I need to change the links, and the parser that fetches prices. I hope it is also going to fix the cards which have a 0 price.

One thing that may be useful to include is to export the file with a name like "MMDDYYYY-HHMM_USERNAME_GAMESYSTEM_inventory" as the file name convention.  Would make it easier to dump files periodically as personal backups etc.

Good call, will do.

Collection export

Yay, the much requested feature is finally here. In the View drop down menu of your Inventories, Tradelists and Wishlists you can now find an Export option. In the dialog that opens you will be able to chose which columns to be present in the export file.

As usual, let us know what works, what doesn't, and what's missing. smile. (By the way, the guys with more than 5k-10k distinct cards in their inventory and a lot of detail information on them, expect exports to be in excess of 1MB in size, and to take around 10-20 seconds).

Communities and user profiles

We've got various cosmetic fixes and improvements in other areas as well:

  • the ability to create private events for communities

  • signup time is tracked for event participants, hovering over a name will show the time he signed up (useful for first-come-first-served things)

  • the Edit Profile page is simpler now, and things dealing with preferences have been moved to a new Settings page

Spam

Sadly, it looks like even small tcg websites cannot escape the spam industry smile. If you have received any spam email last week from deckbox, we are sorry. We've banned the offending accounts, and set up some monitoring tools, and a captcha on the email send page, so we should be safe.

Tap: Max´s Game

Last but not least, we've received some information about an independent Czech independent movie about Magic the Gathering. We wish the director / producer Kamil Beer and entire cast a hearty Good luck, and we hope people will warmly welcome this and other productions about trading card games.

The movie is a small-budget, non-profit production that will be released on the internet for free and in independent cinemas for a symbolic entry fee. You can find an overview by the director below. Don't forget to visit their website: http://maxovahra.com/?lang=en and their facebook page.

About the film

Tap: Max´s Game is a Czech independent film, a sports drama, produced by 2D studio in coproduction with AVC ČVUT. Written and directed by Kamil Beer. Directors of photography Tomáš Lénárd, Petr Pulc and AVC ČVUT. Editor Tomáš Lénárd. Musical score composed by Stanislav Ferko, author of the Srdce musical and Srdcefest organisator.  Max´s Game is the first film inspired by the card game Magic: the Gathering, played by over six million people around the world. This unique independent film, dedicated not only to Magic players and fans of the sports drama genre, tells an exciting story about the strength of a true friendship.

Max´s Game began only as a thought. The film´s writer and director, Kamil Beer, was listening to Rocky IV soundtrack every morning while traveling to school, and imagined the film scenes.

He met Tomáš Lénárd and with their first film crew, they commenced the shooting. The cinematography wasn´t going as expected, though, so a year after, they welcomed Petr Pulc of AVC ČVUT along with his colleagues into the crew and began reshooting. The team consisted of Kamil Beer as the director, Jana Machová as the assistant director and Ladislav Vitouš and Jana Alferyová as the much needed motivators. After a national casting, the Key Make-up Irena Mášová found her way to the team and slowly, the film crew gained many talented members, united after a common goal.
