I stumbled across this program last week and I've been playing quite a few EDH games with it. It takes a few games to understand the interface and the "unwritten rules" of how to use it, but after a few days it was second nature.

If you do end up trying it out, post your username here.

My username is "Toxygene".

I pulled an Angel of Serenity today and I have no use for it. I'm only really interested in trading for Rakdos, Lord of Riots, Rakdos's Return,  or Necropolis Regent. If you're interested in trading, let me know.

I guess the problem is that decks will improve over the next two weeks (new boosters + more deck experience). If I'm not participating during that time, I'll have an unfair Win %.

Maybe no one cares, but I want to make sure in advance.

So my wife is due Oct. 26th, which is going to prevent me from participating in the league for, at a minimum, one week. For all I know, she might go into labor tonight. As a result, I may end up with a Win % that doesn't take into account the trading and deck improvements people make for those two weeks. So what does everyone thing should happen here?

tl;dr: Skip to the end and "vote" on the buzz if you care about how we distribute prizes.

League results as of now(ish) 2 weeks in are posted in the lunchroom. You can also view the results in Google Docs here: ]https://docs.google.com/a/nerdery.com/s … 0RFE#gid=1 (though I'm only updating once per week). Each week "tab" is cumulative.

At the end of the league, we'll be ranking everybody in the relevant categories and distributing prizes. Below are the details and rules for the prize pools:

Biggest Loser: Most losses

6 Packs

High Scorers: Highest League Scores
Eligibility Prerequisites: none
1st: 8 Packs
2nd: 6 Packs
3rd: 4 Packs
4th: 2 Packs
5th: 1 Pack
6th: 1 Pack
7th: 1 Pack
8th: 1 Pack
9th: 1 Pack
10th: 1 Pack

Big Winners: Highest Win Percentage

4th: 2 Packs
5th: 1 Pack
6th: 1 Pack
7th: 1 Pack
8th: 1 Pack
9th: 1 Pack
10th: 1 Pack

TL;DR SECTION BEGIN

I'm inclined to say that we should only let people win one prize in order to maximize the number of people who get some sort of "pay out" for participating. If we did it that way we'd say that you'd win the bigger of the two prizes you were eligible for and the smaller prize would go to the next person on the list. If you want to LIMIT the prizes to 1/player please AGREE to this post. If you want players to be able to win more than one prize please DISAGREE with this post. I'll take the votes into consideration along with some ad hoc pollstering.

TL;DR SECTION END

Tactically, if you think you can create a second deck that will have a better chance winning against a bad match-up for the other deck, then go for it. I wouldn't suggest it though.

40 cards, no more, no less. You want to make sure you are drawing cards that are useful and, even with trading, the odds are low that you can find 20-24 cards that are worth playing. Evaluating what is and isn't good can be challenging; your best bet is to find a review of the set. Channelfireball (http://www.channelfireball.com/) has pretty good reviews.

So we're a week in and I thought I'd share my observations about the decks for the week.

I opened a lot of red/black removal and two Rix Maadi Guildmages, so I decided on Rakdos. I went 8-3 this week.

The guildmages are amazingly good in this format. My goal is to keep my opponent on the defensive and if I can add one or two more damage in the early turns can be very helpful. Ash Zealot and Splatter Thug have proven to be very strong.

My three losses were to Golgari, Golgari, and Golgari/Rakdos. Daggerdrome Imp + scavenge ruined my day more than a once. Scavenge in general has been really difficult to deal with. I'm resorting to trading for Rakdos Charms so I can side board them in to those match ups.

I played one or two Rakdos decks and didn't have much trouble with them. Same for the Izzet decks.

The Selesnya and Azorius games were generally very close. The white flyers are a nuisance to deal with, as is detain, but it doesn't seem like it's ever been a game changer. The Selesnya enchantment that gives all your creatures +3/+3 is really rough. After playing Tad, I considered trying to get some white enchantment removal for my side board.

Deckbox was kind enough to give us a forum so we can have discussions in here instead of in one giant Buzz thread!
