Topic: [Standard][Opinions] New to MtG, could use advice

So I'm fairly new to Magic, a friend got me into it using the sorin vs tibalt duel decks. Of course I was instantly addicted and ran out and bought some gatecrasher and core 2014 intro packs. Using the cards I got in the packs I set out to create a deck of my own (unfortunately budget is a factor, so you have to deal with what you have) I put the deck together with the intent of lifelink with a little milling type deck (but mostly lifelink) Ive read some awesome tutorials and such, and I think from what I got, I dont have a /BAD/ deck per-say, but Id love some feedback on it, even a "its a junk deck try again, try reading XXXXXX to help you" This deck is meant mainly just for playing with friends, very casual. I said budget is a limiting factor but please feel free to suggest any cards that my work well with the deck!

Re: [Standard][Opinions] New to MtG, could use advice

I would check out this post for some general deck building advice:

http://deckbox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=10953

I would look at adding at least five more land to your deck, and maybe as many as seven.  Once you have modified your deck, go to the Tools --> Statistics section and draw some sample hands.  You should be hitting at least your first four lands on turns one through four a good portion of the time.

It looks like you need a couple more finisher cards -- something with evasion (unblockable, trample or flying) that can deal a decent amount of damage.  Alternatively, if you can get a Haunted Plate Mail or two (or something similar), those can great help make any creature a formidable threat.

Beyond that, just play some games with the deck and notice what's stuck in your hand at the end of each game.  Think about the cards that you never cast and figure out what would have been helpful instead of that card.
