Topic: Legacy in Romania

I've been looking for some Legacy events in Romania, but i couldn't find any.

Why not trying out some legacy events? Here some pro's and con's.
- Many players have Legacy staples, played in EDH and Modern decks.
- Known strategies from Modern can be easily build out to Legacy decks (Infect, Affinity, and more)
- The prices of some legacy decks are high, BUT expensive cards can be replaced with cheaper options with often just one more mana in it's cost. The same for the mana base, many players have the shocklands which function perfectly fine. And the fetchlands you allready have, Modern players!
- I often run into semi Modern builds at Legacy tournaments, giving me a hard time winning.
- You have a T1 win combo-deck for just 150 dollar! (Oops, All spells) Cheaper than most Standard topdecks.

Peronally I like playing legacy for its challenging character, speed, and the availability of a wide wide number of cards.

So why not giving it a shot, maybe as a side event or a Sunday tryout?

I'd love to hear your thoughts about it! And to anyone interested in Legacy: feel free to contact me for any kind of advice or information about Legacy play.

Greetings!
Herman

Re: Legacy in Romania

The main problem with legacy is that it requires older cards which are extremely hard to find in romania because magic really started around the time of lorwyn/alara. People are barely starting to build their first modern deck.
Putting that aside, I agree with you, legacy is an amazing format with loads of crazy possibilities, I often watch the scg stream on sunday.
What i would like to see is pauper, i've watched some matches on youtube and the decks seemed really cool. That format is like a toned down legacy,in crazy plays(you wont see turn 2 emrakul or griselbrand) but also in price(which is the most important thing) but pauper still contains that brewing pleasure and style of play seen in legacy.

Re: Legacy in Romania

I agree with you, Pauper is also fun to play. Though the Legacy format has a much higher level of challenging play, which makes it much more fun in my opionion. Instead of plays like land, go, land go, land go; it goes like land (many options) go, Land (damn what could he have...) big_smile

I just remembered another reason i prefer Legacy over other formats. Most cards are a sollid investment! Once your getting borred of a deck after a year or two, you can easilly trade your cards for other legacy staples without a making expenses. Also cards actually increase in value, making you not waste your money.

It would be nice to se Legacy promoted a bit big_smile

I wouldn't mind playing sometimes against a semi-proxied deck for fun. Maybe we could make some to let the people visiting the club try them out! Would this be an idea?

Re: Legacy in Romania

If someone from us want to have a legacy tournament, I will do that, with no more then 20% values of the deck as proxies.
What do you say like this?

Re: Legacy in Romania

That would be great!
Tough i dont know howmany players would manage to keep it within the 20% value. As many legacy lists have half their value in the manabase. Maybe we could say that Dual lands can be proxied, plus max 8 or 12 others (+1 for each original dual land owned). Something like that?
Are there any rulings for proxying or can every event organizer decide what suits best for the club?

Re: Legacy in Romania

Because it is not an organized contest with judges, I dedice it wink
So suggest to me and I will support it.

Re: Legacy in Romania

Could we have a Legacy Proxy tryout some day in March?

I've been searching for the best way to proxy cards. The official ocation a procy is used is when an original card becomes unplayable during a tournament. (A losing opponent couldnt handle the pressure of Emrakul and rips it into pieces). A judge then takes a basic land card and writes the name of the damaged card on it.
But when playing with a half-proxied deck, it becomes very unpractical with all those basic lands in your hand. The actual image of the card makes playing more confortabe and having the exact text written on the card comes in handy many times.
That brought me to printing the cards and adding them to the sleved random-card. This makes the deck bit thicker. Then non-proxies are easier to see in your library, not good. So all cards should be proxied, but whats the use of owning the original cards then?
I cant find a decent solution to this. Any suggestions?

I've read its more of a multiplayer(draft?) based set. 65 new cards of wich 52 legacy/vintage legal. But i assume the set contains more cards. So i think the multiplayer aspect is bigger than the impact on the legacy format. Anyway im curious what happens next after the True-Name for Blade players and the U-Bully Spirit of the Labyrinth.

As for the proxy-'problem', any suggestions?

Re: Legacy in Romania

Can be proxy used, let's start initially with 20% of deck. then we will see as we get cards.

Re: Legacy in Romania

Allright. So 20% of 75 cards is 15 proxies per deck. Seems reasonable.
When can we get started? big_smile

Re: Legacy in Romania

I think you should get here 8 persons or initially start as a 2 player test decks.
