Notes
This has notes on budgeting for the purposes of this deck.
Really, there isn't a lot to cut, however we don't always have to cut. Sometimes we can get cards to do impressions.
Okay, Tarmogoyf is REALLY fucking expensive, so let's look at cards that do Tarmogoyf Impressions first.
Managorger Hydra. This guy usually doesn't have much place in our deck, most importantly because of the fact that he's a 3 drop. However if you can manage to protect him, he does a decent impression. If your meta doesn't have a lot of removal, he can be a great choice.
Scavenging Ooze. Ah yes, Scooge. Since you're not concerned about Removing cards from the graveyard now, he does a decent Goyf impression. BUT only as long as there's creatures for him to burn. I'd suggest running him personally, but only if you're going to run a lot of creatures and a lot of removal.
Hooting Mandrakes. This card is pretty neat, simply for the fact that it allows you to get rid of old cards you aren't using anymore and turn them into a Goyf sized beatstick. Sadly though, it's kind of hard to run if we're budgeting away lands too, as lands often take up a chunk of our graveyard early game.
Snapcaster Mage.
Usually, he's necessary, even now when we're budgeting, I'd say he's kind of hard to replace. BUT! As with all things, there is a way.
Jace, Vryn's Prodigy. That's right, this little guy right here is as close as we're going to get for now. His -2 is basically the same thing. The only real downside is he takes a minute to use, and he requires that you fill up your graveyard to flip him. But you might try it if you don't want to invest in Snappy just yet.
~Lands~
Lands are really fucking expensive man, ya feel me? They suck! However, if you don't care so much about your life total, you can run what we call 'Goldy Lands'
City of Brass
Mana Confluence
Ancient Ziggurat
City and Conny both hurt, but Oldy Box has a restriction, which really sucks sometimes. I think I designed this land base well for the deck I built, but you can change it as you please.
Whoa now, even with all these things I've added and replaced, this deck list looks a little empty.
Enter our new BUDGET BUDDIES.
~Creatures~
Grim Lavamancer. This little guy eats your graveyard when you don't really have much other things to use it on. Which can help immensely against other Tarmogoyf decks! He also does a heafty amount of damage. So keep that in mind when using him, he can remove creatures rather well.
Augur of Bolas. I'm not going to run him in this list, but only because I don't run enough instants and sorcery's to warrant him. But if you run more instants and sorcery, he's a good choice.
Fatespinner. Mama three drop. Mama is a good choice, she forces the opponent to make changes to their plan if they can't answer her right away.
Savage Knuckleblade. He's an okay creature, not the greatest ever, kind of a strain on the mana base. But he doesn't die to bolt, and he's a pretty good menace if you can manage him well. And for only one red more, he has haste!
