Notes

It may seem unusual that green isn't in the main deck, but there is a reason: I wanted to focus this deck on one specific chapter of Ajani's story. I wanted to focus on the time when he was teetering between seeking justice and/or revenge for his brother's (Jazal) death. Red and white seemed to fit that theme better. (For those who must have green to keep it squarely in Naya, check the sideboard.)

I think the choice between justice and revenge (or even mercy) is a vitally important choice for characters to make. It's what separates heroes like Superman (justice) from The Punisher (revenge). And it's what makes troubled characters like Batman (justice and/or vengeance, depending on the writer) so compelling. In this deck, Ajani is still in the process of making the choice to either use his planeswalker spark to seek vengeance, or to seek justice (or even) to seek mercy. (Spoiler: he eventually chooses a combo of justice and mercy, becoming Ajani Goldmane, and/or Ajani, Caller of the Pride).

There were a lot of red and white cat cards to choose from. I tried to avoid mixing in too many of the other leonin groups or random cats found in the Multiverse. For example, I avoided the Skyhunters and Shakari from Mirrodin. That said, I didn't include every Nacatl, just because Ajani is a Nacatl. I just tried to keep the deck flavorfully strong, but still playable as a RW Life Gain-Aggro deck. (I included 4 copies of "Blade of the Sixth Pride" because the full art is awesome.)
