What is Death and Taxes?

Death and Taxes was a deck born in Legacy due to some very powerful synergy between cards printed in Time Spiral. While those cards aren't important here, their same idea applies. The "taxes" part of this deck comes from your power to mess up your opponent's plans, and the "death" comes shortly afterwards. What makes this deck different than other  weenie decks is that you're not exactly looking to beat down your opponent ASAP. While giving more time to your opponent might seem like a bad idea, this deck certainly does not give up after turn 5 like some WW decks if the creatures can't curve out fast enough. With the printing of Extort in Gatecrash, combined with a couple of very powerful and efficient creatures that are effective throughout the game, our gameplan allows us to hit hard early, and finish them off later. This deck was designed with the metagame in mind, so every card included in this deck list will attempt to mess up popular meta decks whether they are control or aggro. Hope you enjoy!

Why play D&T?

One would choose to play D&T because they want a newer way to play Standard and win. D&T brings a fight to all decklists, and doesn't have any abysmal match-ups (yet). If I could give one piece of advice for deckbuilding in standard, it's the number 3. 3 toughness suddenly makes a lot of aggressive 2 power aggro/removal (Ash Zealot, Pillar of Flame) spells almost useless. 3 power lets you burst through the 3 toughness guys the opponent has, like Augur of Bolas. We play 20 (!) different spells that can effectively shut down powerhouse low-cmc creatures in aggro. Against control, we have some of the best spell deterrents. Thalia, Guardian of Thraben has always been the control deck's worst nightmare. We also play spells like Judge's Familiar to fend off early removal and counterspells as well. We don't need 5 creatures on board to win the game. Most of the time, we have 2-3, 1-2 against control. This makes board wipes like Supreme Verdict hard to position correctly against us. If all else fails, we have Sphinx's Revelation to regain board position if we begin to topdeck lands. As our list continues to improve, we will only get stronger and stronger as a deck.
