Ulasht, the Hate Seed is a versatile supportive commander that pokes holes in opponent's defenses while bolstering your own. It's abilities allow it to create 1/1 creature tokens to chump block in a pinch, or deal direct damage to opponent's creatures. You can use the damage as an effective combat trick, removing fliers on defense (something this red/green deck otherwise struggles with) or to remove opponent's small blockers during your attacking phase. While Ulasht can't be played without controlling at least a few other creatures, it is worth having as a commander for the threat it poses alone.

As a Hydra, it is automatically eligible for the myriad of abilities in this deck that target modified creatures or creatures with +1/+1 counters on them, while also benefitting from any abilities that would put +1/+1 counters on it. Its ability to destroy blockers increases the threat of abilities that trigger when attacking. It can even be used to create armies of tokens, since if it were to die from losing all its counters you can cast it from the command zone again- and get back any counters you spent on creating Saprolings.
