How have you resisted Sword of Body and Mind? Mill the top 10 for an upgraded Lazav and get a blocker, that shit's pretty legit.

How well does this play? I built a similar deck using a few of your ideas here. I've been playing a league at a local card shop and I want to keep things fresh but competitive.

I love playing this deck.  Betweem reanimation and clone effects there's usually a bunch of lines of play.  Having a few good clone targets of your own also really helps.  vedalken orrery/leyline of anticipation also really help because you can mind grind/traumatize/whatever on the end of their turn.  It hurts a bit to tap out for a mind grind and then have to wait a full cycle with no counterspell mana up.

You might like Sword of Body and Mind. Hexproof is soo good, this guy would make a killer voltron target.
  • Your Mother | 14-Dec-2013 13:09
I'd cut Chromatic (only two colors), Graverobber (that'll never switch over) and Mindcrank (never really liked it) for Cloak and Dagger (for protection on Notion Thief), Hex, and another ninja or bounce, so you can recast the primordials if needs be (Aether Tradewinds, maybe?  Blood Clock?).  This deck will be very hard to deal with.  Even if you think you are safe from it a rise of the dark realms would end the game.  Too bad there is no black/blue mass haste.
    • tompytomps | 15-Dec-2013 02:31
Chromatic Lantern is to help me hit UUBB for Lazav, plus artifacts are the only acceleration in the deck.  Graverobber and Mindcrank I could probably yank, especially Graverobber.  He's mostly there for the graveyard hate.
      • Your Mother | 15-Dec-2013 02:57
Cemetary Reaper, Coffin Queen, Dimir Doppelganger, Graveyard Shovel.
        • tompytomps | 15-Dec-2013 03:17
Doppelganger is probably the best replacement.  I'll throw it in next time I grab singles.

Dude are you heading to syr anytime soon?

    • tompytomps | 08-Nov-2013 16:27
Not sure yet, it'd be cool to make it there over winter break.  Hard to plan it without a car though.
  • Your Mother | 28-Oct-2013 16:11
Lazav is like the worst ever.  Hexproof drives me insano, and the fact he can turn into most anything is besides stupid.  Since the only real way to get rid of that asshat is mass bounce/wipe, you'd safe finding a way to get negate and the like in here.  Slave of Bolas would be good, too, if there is something on the board you want.  Guiltfeeder might kill people, and that would be awesome.
    • Your Mother | 28-Oct-2013 16:12
Nevermind, I don't think you can use slaveo.
      • tompytomps | 28-Oct-2013 16:42
Yep, Bolas is outside the color identity.  I based this off of a budget EDH thing and just classed it up a bit.  Just threw in a few counterspells - they also help feed lazav because I can counter whatever fatty someone's trying to throw down and have lazav copy it.  This might also be a good deck for mimic vat.  use it for their stuff or throw a primordial under it.
        • Your Mother | 28-Oct-2013 17:02
Nothing overly powerful sticks, and the board gets blow'd up all the time.  At least at our table, it is almost better to be annoying and do 3-4 each turn than start swinging for the fences.  Commander really is a marathon.  Also, as far as artifacts go, I've found Crystal Ball to be worth gold.
          • tompytomps | 28-Oct-2013 17:45
Crystal ball seems really good for EDH.  The biggest weakness of this deck right now is that it doesn't really have its own threats, so if there's nothing good to steal it just dies.  If whatever playgroup I find ends up being weenie/boardwipe heavy I'll have to change it around a bit, probably add some of my own beef and more counterspells.
            • Your Mother | 28-Oct-2013 18:37
The only thing this wouldn't work against would be a stupid token deck - everyone's got beaters.  Maybe a couple tutors to get Life's Finale in play?  Even a token/weenie deck has a Sun Titan, Baneslayer, Elesh Norn, etc.
            • ivanthehungrier | 28-Oct-2013 18:53
I found Soul Conduit to be good, not always great bc it's 6cmc to do anything but it can make it easier to win if your getting beat most of the game. Any tutor's would help alot too.
