For cards that are part of a cycle, it would be convenient to have the cycle listed on the card info page. This would allow easy access to other cards in the cycle if you can't recall their names. For example, I want to go lookup the black/blue version of Overgrown Tomb. Instead of sitting there and trying to remember what it's called or trying to look it up in a round-about way, I could just scroll down and click the link, as this mockup shows:

http://i.imgur.com/aFQQFBP.png

If there's interest enough in this idea, I'd gladly work on creating a comprehensive list of card cycles (and perhaps other functionally similar cards such as Cultivate and Kodama's Reach).

It seems like each token should be a separate printing similar to how basic lands are handled.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean here. Tokens are already separated by their print version like basic lands. I'm saying that similar tokens should be GROUPED rather than completely separated - each kind of Soldier should get a separate 'card' entry, in other words.

Glad to see that tokens are in the database, but it seems they're only classified by their name. This is troublesome, because there are many cases of different tokens having the same name. 'Soldier', for example, has 4 different kinds:

1/1 red Soldier creature
1/1 white Soldier creature
1/1 red and white Soldier creature
1/1 white Soldier enchantment creature

https://deckbox.org/mtg/Soldier currently combines all these versions into a single card entry.

If I want some 1/1 white Soldier creature tokens and don't care about which version I get, I can add them to my wishlist with the edition field blank and hope people understand my assumption, but how would anyone know whether I'm not looking for the 1/1 red and white version instead? This ambiguity could be avoided via a separate entry for each unique type of Soldier. You could also preserve their ease of searchability through labels such as:

Soldier [1/1 red]
Soldier [1/1 white]
Soldier [1/1 red/white]
Soldier [1/1 white enchantment]

This way, everyone knows exactly which type of token is being discussed and typing "Soldier" into the search bar will display the different types. Problem solved!

There are some cards that show up with their more expensive version listed first. (or the only listing in decks) For example, Hua Tuo, Honored Physician shows up as a $50 card when it's only $0.50 and Command Tower shows up as $18.99 when it's only ~$1.50.

Anyone who's looking for a specific version of a card should need to go find the price for that version, but shouldn't everyone else see a card's real value first? (i.e. the lowest priced version)

Sorry if this comment is in the wrong section. It seems like a price issue to me.

It looks like Planes and Schemes are included, but are there plans to add tokens and emblems to the database? Magiccards.info has a listing of them here:

http://magiccards.info/extras.html

Well, I fooled around with copying the data differently and got this to work. Excel was saving formatting for some reason and I had to manually adjust it not to within the .csv file.

32

(2 replies, posted in Site Discussion)

I just tried importing to my inventory from a .csv file, and after double checking that all the headers were correct and there was zero formatting, I still get this error:

Error: The server encountered a problem trying to import your file. Please check that it is a plaintext csv file and try again.

I also tried saving in different .csv typed formats (macintosh, ms-dos, windows) to no avail. Any ideas?

Is this the sort of thing that would be used to mark physical properties of a card (e.g. gold bordered or altered) or will those things be added as predefined tags? (similar to the current signed, textless, & foil tags)

I put my account on vacation since hearing about the trouble with switching over from TCGPlayer's prices, but this is exciting stuff! It looks like the card prices that I flagged have all been fixed and the prices are getting more stable. I'm pretty busy with other things currently, but will try to explore the recent changes in the coming weeks.

Probably already discussed, but why not let the sellers put a price on the cards that they are selling? Magictraders doesn't use tcg prices they just have the user name the price they want for the card. If the seller wants to use tcg prices, amazon prices, or their own price that's up to them. Although there won't be enough, but if selling cards do get big on this site, you could scrap the selling prices and make those the suggested trade prices.

Wait, what? I haven't used the selling feature yet, but does it not allow you to set your price? You're saying that we have to use the listed values (now retrieved from Amazon) for sales?

I exported my tradelist to more easily scan for cards with values of $0.00, and it turns out that none are. However, I know that's not true as I saw a bunch at that amount. Looks like the prices are just missing and $0.00 is a placeholder. They show up as "<span class='note'>N/A</span>" in the exported list. Here they are:

That presents the same issue as with TCG. Deckbox is/will be a direct competitor for SCG so they would deny any access to their API in the same way that TCG did.

Indeed. Also, SCG is notorious for not sharing their pricing information.

Are we obligated to sell at the price shown, per website rules?

You have to sell at the price you have when the buyer pays for the order. If I made an order and paid for it, you have to ship what I bought.

Please note, as these are not trades, there is no "accept" stage for you as a seller. If a buyer sees what you have to sell and pays, you sold it.

To address the problem with leaving and coming back to surprises, we have added a Vacation Mode. Setting it to on will prevent anyone to trade you stuff or to buy things from you.

We want to add more powerful market tools too, which can analyze your tradelist and show which cards you are selling way below market value or way above market value, to help with managing sales inventories.

If you plan to add market tools that can show which cards are below/above market value, how easy would it be to automatically remove these cards from my sales list? (if I opted into such automation) I feel that I'd never use a peer-to-peer selling system if had to micro-manage my sales list to reflect price spikes. I don't have time to follow the card market closely enough to catch such price spikes before it'd be too late. Would deckbox help with that, or would I need to subscribe to some other service to alert me to these price spikes?

While I haven't done any development on Deckbox in the past year, I have followed closely its evolution as I have to stand Sebi's moods each day as he curses at the code smile and I have advised him during the development.

Reading everything posted here just reminds me of the Diablo 3 forum posts back when they launched (eg. "They broke Diablo", "this sucks", etc.) but I can't say I'm very surprised. As a former MtG player myself, I admit the amazon prices are not close to an ideal solution.

To address some of the questions raised here, as it seems that some of you don't see the big picture.

- Deckbox is not a big company (3 people)
- the ads we had didn't support the tiny company
- donations wouldn't have been enough to support it either
- we have taken into consideration adding premium-like features, but that would have been conflicting with Wizards of the Coast and that's not a company we want to be arguing with
- we have considered many other monetisation possibilities
- the marketplace was chosen as a solution for monetisation because it makes sense and fits in the whole logic of Deckbox
- yes, we expected TcgPlayer to not be happy, but we didn't expected them to be unhappy so soon :-)

I am not trying to get your sympathy or pity, I am simply explaining why proper market research wasn't done, why we chose to add the martketplace and why we added the Amazon prices. I understand this ruins some people's trades at the moment and we are in a less than comfortable place right now, but as mentioned before, it is not a permanent solution.

So please, bear with us, we understand and we are working on it smile

I hope that's as far as the Diablo 3 analogy goes, as that was the biggest disappointment in video game history I've ever experienced. I'm more than capable of updating my own card inventory and handling trades without any accurate pricing information, so I feel I'm probably less invested in this site than some other responders here. However, I do sincerely hope Deckbox can manage this problem well and thrive in the future. This has been the best site for collection management and trading that I've found and I'd like to continue using it.

Pressing any of the "Try it" buttons returns text junk like this:

{"status": 404, "message": "Not Found. You have requested this URI [/api/users/deckbox_api/] but did you mean /api/users/<string:username> or /api/users/<string:username>/tradelist or /api/users/<string:username>/sets/ ?"}

Your trade list example is a giant list of text. How is this supposed to be used? Is it not meant for human reading? I'm using the most recent version of Firefox and don't think I have any add-ons that should affect this. Any idea what the problem may be?

The tradelist is meant to be a list of cards you WANT to trade. Is there a reason you can't import these card batches to your inventory instead? They shouldn't be automatically added to your tradelist if you do that.

I did skim over the details, but if you just want 1 entry per unique card name, (only 1 swamp, regardless of edition) you'd just have to remove the extraneous information (edition) and then combine the lists. To do this, I would take a text list like this and paste it into http://store.tcgplayer.com/list/selectproductmagic.aspx

1 Swamp
1 Swamp
2 Swamp
6 Swamp
1 Forest
1 incorrect name

When you press 'Add to Cart', every identical entry is combined, and the list is sorted alphabetically. You'll get this result

1 Forest
1 incorrect name
10 Swamp

Then, set every amount in the list to '2' and continue with steps 2, 3, and 4. The 'incorrect name' entry is there so that the program doesn't actually add everything to your cart and remove the list. There may be ways to do this in a word processing program, but I've just used this hack since it's so quick.

EDIT: Excel has a button called 'Remove Duplicates' under Data that does this too.

What do you mean by name only, rather than name and edition? If I'm understanding correctly, you can do either of those with the method I suggested, or even add other criteria such as gatherer rating (e.g. must be > 3) or price. (e.g. must be < $5 TCGPlayer minimum)

Given that this sort of thing wouldn't be used frequently, and there's a suitably fast alternative, I doubt it would become a feature of decklist anytime soon.

As far as I know, that's not a feature of decklist, but if you want to add 1 of anything you don't have (tradelist) and aren't already looking for, (wishlist) you can do so outside of deckbox:

1. Export your tradelist and wishlist, combine them, then set the amount of each card to '2' using a replacement effect. Word and excel can each do this.
2. Get a list of every magic card (I recommend a program called gatherer extractor) and set the amount of each card to '1'.
3. Combine the lists from part 1 and 2 (I often use TCGPlayer's mass import as a quick hack for this) then filter by any cards that have an amount of '1' listed.
4. Import the list of cards from part 3 to your deckbox wishlist.

Fair warning - the list will be THOUSANDS of cards long.

I'm not sure - I had been using them before as well. It appears that there are links to the tcgplayer site at the bottom of each card's page, however.

I don't think Lord is even a proper creature type anymore, so it should just be 'human'.

It'd be nice to be able to sort trades the same way you can sort decks/tradelists.

You can add your cube as a deck to keep track of it, but what kind of support are you talking about? What would you want to be able to do? Cubetutor has a lot of options for this too.

Wait, what? How does modifying the default set to Theros for a card-import affect any card that wasn't printed in Theros, such as Kozilek, Butcher of Truth?

My concern lies in how the trade will be viewable afterward. If I don't delete one, then I'm stuck between leaving feedback twice, or leaving a completed trade without feedback. I don't mind leaving feedback for both, but that seemed like it might be against some unspoken rule. Sounds like it's not a big deal, though.
