In this thread Sebi mentioned that the hold-up is that the Duels of the Planeswalkers cards and set don't appear in Gatherer. Since deckbox gets its data from Gatherer, that means that they don't currently appear on Deckbox.

He mentioned potentially writing an importer to get the data from magiccards.info.

I'm in the same boat you are. There are some nice cards in those decks, and I'd really like to be able to get them into my inventory.

I just noticed a bug with Advanced Search, and a typo.

The Cost field has three operator values: 'Equals', 'Is larger than', and 'Is smaller than'.

'Equals' works as expected.

'Is larger than' and 'Is smaller than' both work counterintuitively. They seem to work as 'equals or greater than' and 'equals or less than' instead of strictly 'greater than' or 'less than.'

An easy example: search the card database with the following values: Rules Text Contains 'buyback', Color Is one of Red, and Cost Is larger than 2.

You will see Blast from the Past, Flowstone Flood, and Reiterate, which all have CMCs larger than 2. But you will also see Fanning the Flames, Haze of Rage, and Shattering Pulse, which all have CMCs of exactly 2.

I see two possible solutions: the first is to change the search logic so that they use the right operators. The second is to change the operator text in the Advanced Search form so that it says 'Is greater than or equal to' and 'Is less than or equal to.' I have a mild preference for the first solution.

Priority seems low: anybody using the cost field to search will likely spot the behavior and correct for it.

Also, there is a typo in the operators for the Cost field. 'Is larger than' appears as 'Is largen than.' The word 'largen' should be 'larger'.

Best,
Scrapulous

It looks FTV: Realms is up, as well as Izzet vs. Golgari. Thanks, Sebi!

I have often wished for such a feature. It would make the process of adding inventory to deckbox much faster.

One small nitpick: it doesn't always show the most recent printing. I believe it uses the same logic that the Edition field value sort in the Advanced Search interface uses, and so the printing that will be displayed is the one closest to the top of that list.

So for example, the card Deep Analysis was printed twice: once originally in Torment in 2002, and a second time in Ajani vs. Nicol Bolas in 2011. The 2011 version is clearly the more recent printing, but because of the unusual sort, the Torment printing is displayed by default.

For what it's worth, the sort order from lowest display priority to highest display priority seems to be:

  1. The joke sets (Unhinged, Unglued)

  2. The Portal sets

  3. The Starter sets

  4. The Promo set

  5. Battle Royale, Beatdown, and Vanguard

  6. The From the Vault sets in order from earliest released to latest

  7. The Premium Deck Series in order from earliest released to latest

  8. The Duel Deck Series in order from earliest released to latest

  9. The multiplayer sets in order from earliest released to latest (Planechase, Archenemy, Commander, Planechase 2012)

  10. The main sets in order of their release, starting with Alpha and currently ending with the 2013 Core Set

This means that an Alpha card has a higher default display priority than, say, the same card from a recent Duel Deck, Premium Deck, From the Vault box, and so on.

I believe this works as designed. The filter doesn't filter on whether you own a copy in that set, it filters on whether you own a copy of the card, and whether that card was printed in that set.

You can see this also if you filter on, say, rare cards with subtype "Angel." Serra Angel appears, even though I don't own any rare Serra Angels. It's because Serra Angel was rare in certain sets, so the card has the "rare" tag in the db.

I can see how you would want the filter to sort through ownership traits instead of what sets the card was printed in. On the other hand, that would make it inconsistent with how the exact same filter works when you're searching the card database. What's more, how would it work if you didn't enter any card details when you added the card to your inventory?

I think the current function is probably the best compromise barring a major interface change.

I've noticed this problem also, when sorting by average price or by amount owned. I've been using it to look at entire sets (filter on Dark Ascension, for example, then sort by amount owned to see which items I don't have a full playset for). I'm not confident that I can reliably browse an entire set's worth of cards this way because of how erratic the card sorting/display is.

Thanks!

I'd just like to mention that I'm waiting with bated breath for this set to be added. I don't want to binder the rares from these decks until I've got them added in deckbox, so I've got all these interesting cards sitting around doing nothing.

Is writing an importer something that could be sourced to the community? I realize that providing your db schema information or an API for imports might be more work than just writing the actual importer in this case. But if not, I'd be happy to help.

Also, does anybody know why these cards aren't on gatherer? Seems silly. They're tournament-legal, according to WotC.

Agreed! Currently when I add a preconstructed deck, I copy and paste the decklist from wizards.com or wherever I can find a clean list, and then I have to add the card edition for each of the cards manually. I'd love it if I could do all of this in a few clicks by selecting from a dropdown. I'd be happy to supply the card edition information for the precons that I own.
