I like the idea of playing the Nivmagus Elemental over enchantments, because of enchantments are being played at sorcery speed.  I could play instants that give more power and toughness buffs, but they lack scry.    Perhaps he is best left to the side board, since I am imagining he will be most useful against control decks responding to the instants that I am attempting to cast, and I respond by exiling it and buffing the Elemental.   I do like Phalaxan 2 drop, and may consider putting him in for the Nivmagus, but side board the Nivmagus in for the control match ups.

You may think I am crazy in regard to Spark Jolt, but I didn't plan to use it for removal.  I would be using it to target Fabled Hero, Anax, or Favored Hoplite to trigger Heroic, plus scry 1.  Magma Jet hits too hard and costs too much to be able to cast a bunch of instants by turn 4, where I would preferably have the Fabled Hero on the battlefield.

Focus and reasoning's of the deck:

In general, I want to get creatures out quickly.  Then use the likes of Gods Willing, Spark Jolt, and Titan's Strength on the Heroic creatures to make them larger.   I am using the Favored Hoplite, and Boros Reckoner as a good blocking component.  Soldier of the Pantheon is in the deck for the purpose of being aggressive, and his passive abilities are also a nice addition.

Nivmagus Elemental adds a special synergy to this deck, in that I can cast Spark Jolt targeting Fabled Hero or Anax and Cymede, gain the +1/+1 counters from Heroic ability, and then exile the spell before it resolves giving Nivmagus Elemental two +1/+1 counters.
Though if I don't have the Elemental on the battlefield, the one damage from Spark Jolt on a Fabled Hero will be recovered before Spark Jolt even resolves, since Heroic ability triggers from the casting of the spell, not when the spell resolves.

I am also taking advantage of the Scry from each of the instants (except Boros Charm) and the Temple of Triumph to hopefully increase the probability of drawing the cards I need.  Scry is a large part why I chose these particular instants, over say, Coordinated Assault

Questions:

I wanted to keep the deck fast, and fairly aggressive.  Does the Soldier of the Pantheon and Boros Reckoner fit in this deck?    Would there be a better creature selection to increase the speed, but keep the synergy and focus?

It's possible I could side board the Boros Charm, and put Coordinated Assault in it's place.   My main use for the Boros Charm is making my Permanents Indestructible, but the versatility of Boros Charm is hard for me to put it on the sideboard.   Suggestions or thoughts on this?

wow, thank you all so much for the great advice.  I am making some changes to the deck based on this.  You all are awesome, and I appreciate the help.

So the idea around this deck is to have both quantity and frequency of life gain to play a large Voracious Wurm, and to make the Archangel of Thune (and all other creatures) larger as well.  The biggest balance is between life gain frequency and life gain amount.   I currently have Experiment One in the one spot.  Experiment One can evolve at least twice from every creature in the deck except other Experiment One's.   The Voracious Wurm may cost only two mana, but I consider this creature a minimum of a 5 cost, so I would prefer to wait to cast the Wurm when I have gained 3 or more life in a turn.

Spells that provide Life Gain Quantity:
Centaur Healer
Predator's Rapport
Ordeal of Heliod
Bow of Nylea
Archangel of Thune

Spells that provide Life Gain frequency
Staff of the Wild Magus
Bow of Nylea
Archangel of Thune

Questions and Concerns:

Would the Soldier of  the Pantheon or Soulmender be better suited for the one spot instead of the Experiment One?

Is there better removal than using Arrest and Pacifism for the colors I have?

Any other suggestions for creatures that maintain the same focus of the deck?  I expect this deck to be slower, and chances are I will be taking a few hits in the beginning, but I am ok with that so long as I can gain life consistently to have time and setup the larger combos.

I feel like I would be drowning in mana with Sylvan Caryatid andVoyaging Satyr.  Plus, they don't seem to be as valuable in this particular deck because it's mono colored.   I only have three permanents that have a >=5 mana converted mana cost, and three permanents that are =4 converted mana cost.

sorry, here is a link to the new version:  http://deckbox.org/sets/531856

Took your advice, did an overhaul of the deck.  Added some more removal in the form of Pit Fight and Time to Feed.   Added some devotion and permanents with mana costs that help the devotion.    Moved most of the anti-blue hate to the sideboard.  I still like Savage Summoning, even when not playing against a Blue counter deck, simply because I can flash in a creature for surprise blocking or on the opponents end step, and giving the creature a small boost in a +1/+1 counter.  For a Kalonian Hydra the one extra +1/+1 counter is significant, since when it attacks it will go from a 5/5 to a 10/10 instead of 4/4 to 8/8.

Looking for comments and suggestions for my deck I am trying to build.  I noticed at FNM that blue devotion and blue control decks are fairly popular.  However, how do you think this will fair against non-blue decks?

Looks fairly close to the mono black devotion deck being played at the Grand Prix.   Using Pack Rat without Mutavault, makes the Pack Rat less effective.

I am looking for the Kalonian Hydra and the Scavenging Ooze in particular.  I don't have a lot of trades by mail, so I am willing to send first.  Please setup a Trade in Deckbox, as I may not look at replies to this forum post right away.
