Read a few posts up. It is already available.

Would it be possible to add a 1 click preconstructed function?  Example : If i buy a modern event deck, it would be nice to click 1 button and all those cards where imported into my inventory.

You can import a list of cards. Grab the deck list online somewhere and import it all at once that way.

Thanks for the ton of updates, sebi!

It does indeed have matching characters. Thanks for looking that up!

I'm not sure what they are worth; anyone have any clue?

Picture attached. I have two of these. Mercadian Masques, Plains (non-foil), card numbers 331 and 333. Obviously foreign, but what are they?

After some looking online, I found a picture of a Japanese Plains; it had different symbols than my two. That pretty much leaves Korean and Chinese, but I can't seem to find an example of either version online.

Also, if anyone knows what they're worth (guestimate), I'd be happy to know that as well.

No it is not. Lastpass is notorious for false positives on Heartbleed.  Please do some research before trying to cause a scare.  I tested it with both Qualys Lab and filipp.io testers and it passed.

Its true, LastPass only checks to see if OpenSSL is in use, not whether it is patched. However, Qualys Lab's test is still experimental (they admit this). I don't know anything about filippo.io.

sebi wrote:

We've patched it yesterday. Not sure where you saw it's vulnerable.

First, good job on patching it.

According to LastPass, your certificates are still 6 months old. As I understand it, servers need both a patch and new certificates. Check this article (point #6) for a reference, though the article is not written for a technical audience.

Sorry Sebi. As of right now, I'm not using Deckbox until is is updated against the OpenSSL Heartbleed exploit. Scanning the site on LastPass shows it is still vulnerable.

Couldn't come at a worse time for you, considering how you're busy with the market features and recovering from TCGPlayer's abrupt changes, but security comes before Magic cards.

Please send out emails when things are patched.

For anyone who doesn't know what the heck I'm talking about, google "heartbleed".

Plus you can read all the flavor text that way! big_smile

Perhaps a bad example to illustrate your point. Wal-Mart would sue. They've prosecuted shoplifters for single candy bars (back when they were only twenty-five cents US).  They are extremely litigious.

Perhaps not the best example, though I know Walmart would sue, and I think Amazon might eventually. I just think it'll take so long before they figure it out that Deckbox will have already moved on.

Bethesda, on the other hand, would have already figured it out and initiated proceedings. Their legal department should be fired, lock stock and barrel.

That's like asking what Walmart would do if a single-store business copied their smiley face mascot. Deckbox is too small (in relation to Amazon) for it to be a priority. They might get around to it eventually (though who knows how long it would before they even noticed), but by then Deckbox will have moved to a better system.

No, a valid reaction is " Im going to hold off trading/selling for the moment until this gets fixed to an acceptable level". Saying the site is "nearly unusable" is overreactive to the everything else deckbox does that those MANY other forums do not.

Young people (especially those between ages 2-26) are over-reactive naturally.  They believe (knowingly or not) that being loud and bombastic will yield 'traffic' their way.  With attention comes fame, with fame comes money.  It is a very short/brief business model but applicable for temporary gains.  After all people are corporations (if we inverse the legal ruling that corporations are people), people are money.  People no longer equals a person.  "The squeaky wheel gets the grease."  This is a direct result of the expansion and proliferation of media.  As Gramsci would say one can not separate people from their culture.

Lol - I think, legally speaking, it is actually that corporations are people, not the other way around.  But yes, the culture machine is manufacturing a generation that has some sever social and cultural handicaps and we are letting it happen.  The only solution = unplug.

It isn't just technology. It is technology, government, social policies, and a host of other things. Parents are too lax, trying to give their children everything they possibly can. Government programs hand out money and food stamps to people who don't deserve them. Companies can be bullied into paying disabilities they shouldn't have to. Credit cards, banks, and so many others foster a, "Reward now, pay someday" attitude. Frivolous lawsuits actually work. Schools can't discipline children. My generation (I'm 27), and even more so the rising generation, expect everything to be handed to us, and we throw temper tantrums when it isn't.

Entitlement and instant gratification are to blame, and technology is only one reason why those twin diseases exist. My generation, and the generation coming after us, could do more damage to the country (and the world) as a result of prosperity than anybody ever did as a result of depressions and recessions.

But that is a "little" off topic. roll

I was going to put this into the announcement thread, but I noticed Sebi hasn't responded there for some time (don't blame you: lot of negativity over there). As this is a bug with the new pricing, I figure it shouldn't be horrible to put here where I know it'll be seen.

The tcgplayer.com notice is still on the "View - Show Value" text. I attached a screenshot, if needed.

My original intent was not to convince you Deckbox is a perfect inventory management system. Merely that it can be used as one. Your thoughts are correct, but they do not reflect on Deckbox's capabilities so much as your refusal to adapt to its shortcomings. Yes, it is not perfect, yes, an IMS developed by a major company would have more features. That isn't the point.

If you have a system that works, use it. My suggestions were logical ways you can use Deckbox without adding extra things and still keep track of everything. Of course you would have to adapt what you do to match Deckbox; this is required for any inventory system that isn't customized for each user/company.

Perhaps instead of saying you won't use proxies, you should put them in the ten different trade binders that all have the same cards in them. Put the actual cards in one place, the proxies in the binders, and then when somebody asks, tell them you do have the actual cards but for organization keep them in one spot. Throw away the proxy as the actual card exchanges hands.

I feel like we are beginning to argue and we probably left beyond the topic of this thread awhile ago. It is only fair for you to respond once more here, but after that we should move to messages (if we feel it necessary to continue at all).

First, let me say, Ripptor, that the idea of putting a version to what is in a deck would be nice. That neatly solves (or mostly solves) what I thought of with a text field, at least for decks. But unless you are making a "deck" for every storage box, with the thousands of cards in any one box, it won't solve the problem you presented.

Ripptor wrote:

...I have to check up to 10 places to find that one card. Per card. It is massively inefficient to only have a list of everything that has, 'Some kind of Wrath of God in it'. That's why I have my spreadsheets. And Deckbox currently doesn't replace Excel as an inventory management system due to it's severe limitations on card information.

...Or you could simply remove from your decks the items you are selling and label your boxes. If you are selling a Wrath of God, that would mean you aren't using it, so you don't need to check your decks. The version/promo/foil/whatever wouldn't matter, since you picked one to sell and that one would be in one of two locations: a box labeled "White Rares," or a binder labeled "White Trades" or whatever. Splitting things into multiple places is an inherently bad inventory practice, for the exact reason you explained- it adds complexity.

Until a version option is added to the deck lists, you could proxy something if you want to run it until trading/selling it. If you are going somewhere that discourages proxies, you could just remember that your promo Wrath of God is in that deck. This isn't a problem most users are going to have.

Ripptor wrote:

...Every store that I've ever been to/worked for has an inventory management system that can track individual items of a large stock...

When the computer says there are 11 items on the shelf, the back room has 5, 3 are in the mail and 1 is out for RMA, and you count the items but get 18, you know something is wrong and no database or spreadsheet can tell you where the missing items are.

I was curious how you folks organize and store your cards. Specifically, I want mine in something a little more water resistant than a cardboard box, but I'm having trouble finding plastic containers of the proper size and dimensions for storing large numbers of cards.

This is old, but it has also been stickied, so I wanted to add my two cents for whoever may be looking at this later on.

EDH is highly dependent on the group you play with. If you are playing 1v1 games, expect fast games with a lower mana curve. If you are playing multiplayer (which I think is where the format shines), expect longer games with a higher mana curve. As I only play multiplayer, the rest of this is directed at that subsection of EDH.

You will need removal to handle the amazing cards that come out. Board wipes can be useful, particularly if you can work them into a one-way wipe.

Exiling is better than destroy effects, as there are many indestructible permanents out there that work fabulously in EDH.

Split second cards are better in EDH than usual. You never know how the politics of a multiplayer game will go, and invariably somebody has an instant or an ability that messes with your chances to do something.

Cards that take care of artifacts and enchantments should probably be in every EDH deck you make. There are many of these out there that drastically change the board state, and if you can't remove them, you get hosed- often in amusingly unpredictable ways, but still hosed.

As with all formats, adapt your strategies to the group you play with. Mine has a lot of board wipes, so running a creature deck isn't a great move unless those creatures can survive or do damage before getting wiped out. Your group may or may not run a lot of board wipes, or counter spells, or whatever else may ruin your day.

The inventory management needs to be a little more than, "You own 7 of these. Somewhere." to be considered an actual inventory management tool. Should someone buy something from me, I would use an inventory management tool to find out where it is (what deck it's in, or which trade binder, or which filing cabinet) so that I can quickly and easily pull it and ship it.

Tracking the physical location of an item is very difficult to do. I don't fault Deckbox for not having this feature (although it does tell you which deck(s) they are in, assuming you keep your decks up-to-date). Sure, Deckbox could have a text field and for users to manually type in the location of a card, but that's a pretty slow means of cataloging thousands of individual cards, especially if the location changes. There could be a bulk editing function for this, but it would still be clunky and couldn't possibly help if you misplace something.

If you want your stuff organized, organize it. It isn't that hard to alphabetize and store them in labeled boxes/binders. If your collection is large it will take some serious time, but there is no way Deckbox can change that. Watch TV or listen to an audiobook while you sort. For trade binders, make a "deck" and label it as the trade binder in question (Big Green Hardcase, or whatever). Problem solved.

Ripptor wrote:

As for 'convincing' someone to sell of of their tradelist, it seems to be one of the highest demanded features on this website to get rid of that 'functionality'. Being harassed to trade cards out of your decks that you aren't willing to trade seems to be a bother for people on this site, and one could certainly see why. It might be alleviated by allowing users to block one another, to get rid of that guy who is 'bugging you' to sell your Underground Sea out of your EDH deck, but being able to set inventory to private fixes that problem without losing any potential sales due to heavy-handed blocking.

I hadn't thought of this, probably since it hasn't been an issue for me. Small town and local trades; if I have to say "no" to somebody every couple months, who cares? But I suppose this would be a problem if it was once a day.

Still, I find the ability useful. I wonder if there is a way to preserve that ability and alleviate the annoyances that apparently derive from it... but I can't think of a workable solution. sad

I'm not talking about blocking feedback, just blocking contact not related to previous sales/trades.

Nope, not yet. But I've added it on the list. smile

In addition, as part of the "controls" others have mentioned that they hope sellers will have, it would be nice to auto-block anyone with a bad reputation. This is particularly valuable as sellers do not get the option to approve of a sale. Make it a setting sellers can change-- how bad is "bad," or disable the auto-block entirely, or make an exception for this one dude, etc.

Man. That sounds like a lot of coding for just one little thing. The initial ability to block probably wouldn't be so bad, but having white lists and auto-blocking filters could be more time consuming to code and test. Glad you're doing it and not me. tongue

I haven't looked, but are there options for different shipping rates? Two-day vs standard, or a bulk discount?

One more question: what will the deckbox marketplace do that no other site does? How will it be better for sellers than Motl, mtgsalvation, facebook, eBay, tcgplayer? I'm still paying 10% fees, is there any incentive to selling here other than saving 3%?

Also all those sites you listed (aside from TCG) do not have the interface that deckbox does nor the complete functionality of being to manage your entire collection, build decks, trade and now sell all in one place. I understand your question was in regards to selling but my point is for some this will complete the package of having everything and doing everything on site opposed to many.

As Helios said. It is the ability to have your entire inventory tracked in one location. I used to track it on paper (only for the most important cards), then it went to spreadsheets. Deckbox is much more convenient as an inventory management system. It just makes sense to sell from the place that already has all your cards listed.

It also gives people a chance to see what you have that isn't on your sell list. I can't even guess at how many times I've looked around my small town for a card and not found it on a tradelist, but found it in an inventory. Sometimes what you aren't willing to sell/trade today, you can be convinced to sell or trade tomorrow (maybe for a higher price than you anticipated). On any other site I know of, if you don't list it, I won't know you have it.

http://deckbox.org/sets/548838?

The deck is built around cards like Fling and Rite of Consumption working with cards like Traitorous Blood. Played in pauper multiplayer for casual games.

I've played several games and have tweaked the deck a bit. Originally it had Traitorous Instinct, Portent of Betrayal, and Artillerize, but I removed them because of their mana costs and put in more creatures. I have not yet played the current list.

Biggest weaknesses: lack of creatures (to block with) and the 5 mana required to pull off the combo.

I've used the sideboard as a dumping ground for ideas. Looking for ways to bring in mana faster, draw cards (Dragon Mantle type stuff, or scrying), and better/more creatures for blocking or sac'ing. I'm open to swapping out black for another color.

Ideas/suggestions?

A correction. I said you only have 4 Mountains; Sacred Foundry counts for Chained to the Rocks, so you actually have 8. Doesn't change your red mana base, but probably enough Mountains for Chained to the Rocks to have 4 copies in the deck.

Something tells me this was actually a misunderstanding in the classically modern sense- I didn't make any snarky comments about being a robot. That post was intended to be a frank admission that you have to copy other decks to do well in competitive tournaments, but if you don't care about that, then you shouldn't copy other decks. It wasn't intended as insulting or sarcastic, but looking at it now, it could be taken thus. The result of text communication that lacks the tones of speech or body language we as a species so depend on to interpret meanings.

Back to business.

Dorynnos wrote:

Alright. So I got rid of the build I had for the W/U deck (although I may still have I run some blue till I can afford all the cards in the following 2 decks I've built.)

First one is a Mono white deck with plenty of creature generation and plenty of heroic creature and plenty of triggers with a sideboard that will be able to counter anything I might encounter. Here is the link http://deckbox.org/sets/549212.

Next deck is a R/W with creature generation though a heroic card like Akroan Crusader, a few triggers for a of the heroic cards, and some instants that do direct damage. Here is that link http://deckbox.org/sets/549036

You have a lot of creatures in the W deck, but only two Brave the Elements. I'd consider swapping out the Gods Willing or Indestructible for two more. If you want the Gods Willing for scry, you might consider more cards with scry. There are some lands you could use, though I can't remember off-hand their names. Elpablo, little help there?

The WR deck needs some attention in the mana department. You have 4 Chained to the Rocks, but you only have 4 Mountains in the deck. You only have eight sources of red mana. I would straight up remove 4 Plains and put in 4 more Mountains, then do a few practice runs to make sure you get enough of both types. (You can pull practice hands on http://tappedout.net/ or other online sites, even if you don't own the cards to make a physical deck; I thought you could with Deckbox, but can't find the function now.)

EDIT: I also like Vexing Devil as a one drop in the WR deck, but he isn't standard legal anymore, so you can't use him unless the FNM group plays modern or another format.

"I'm playing a competitive game and trying to win, and you are playing the same game, so you are also playing a competitive game and trying to win." Can you see the fallacy here? Please don't press your personality, likes, and dislikes on me.

For me, the joy of Magic is not in winning. Of course I enjoy winning. But the real joy, for me, is in creating. I build my own deck, play it myself, and I improvise with it in-game. I don't create things in a vacuum, and of course I see what other people are doing to get ideas. But at the end of the day, the deck is something I put together, and it is this process of creation from which I derive my enjoyment. Just like all the musicians out there playing music not because it pays the best, or because they are the best, but simply because they like doing it.

Such joy is what makes Minecraft a great game. The only thing Minecraft does well is allow players to create. There are better survival games, better action games, better crafting games, better looking games, even games that run smoother. Minecraft players enjoy creating something, and that is why they play Minecraft.

Not everyone enjoys creating things, or even creating things in the same way. Just because you enjoy the competition and winning for their own sakes doesn't mean I do, and just because I enjoy the creation doesn't mean you do.

Now let's set aside the ridiculousness and not turn this into a flaming thread. You have an argument with me, send me an email and bash against me all you want. Let this thread be about helping Dorynnos with his deck, regardless of the direction he chooses to take it.

Assuming you want to be like everybody else. Which don't get me wrong, it is fine if you are trying to win tournaments- you have to go with what wins the most.

Personally, winning isn't why I play the game. Copying another person's deck, however amazing their deck may be and however bad my own is, just isn't fun for me. If you want a top tier deck that will perform spectacularly, you should certainly go with some combo of red and white.

You can also play test online, at the link in my first post. smile
