Topic: search for cards in other languages?

Hello,

I really appreaciate the awesome work done!
Deckbox.org works great and has by far the best interface I have seen for managing my collection.

I can only think of one enhancement. That´d be the feature of searching for cards in other languages. For example when I´m adding cards to my inventory I can change the properties afterwards to set it´s languge. But I have to look up the card with it´s english name first.

How about providing an auto completion for other languages than english.
When something is found, that card is added with the correct language setting automatically?

I think it would be easy to sync the various card names from pages like magiccards.info or similar. They have the translations in their URL. Just an idea.

Keep up the great work!

Greetings,

Leoc

Re: search for cards in other languages?

Alternatively, why not offer a "default language" option, so that cards in languages other than English will be the default for users from non-English speaking regions.  Just a thought.

Re: search for cards in other languages?

I think the big win of deckbox.org is the minimalism of its interface. I would not suggest "polluting" this interface with extra options. The most unobtrusive way would be to allow the input of whatever language. The card would then be associated automatically in the database.

A user-wide option of preferred language might be a decent topic to discuss, although not for the issue I am raising here. smile

EDIT: Is there a way to help enhancing the website? I´d gladly give some of my spare time implementing features.

Re: search for cards in other languages?

Sorry for the necroposting, but I was interested in this kind of feature too and I thought it made more sense to up an existing thread where someone already requested it rather than making a duplicate one.

Being able to write a card name in another language would make it really easier to update the inventory for the people that don't use (or not only) english card. If that could also fill up the language to the one of the name inserted it would be a plus, but not the main point.

Cheers.

Re: search for cards in other languages?

This topic (or variants of it) has been brought up in a number of threads.  While the ultimate decision regarding enhancements rests with the site admins, some have suggested that the ability to add or search by the card number would fit the need without unnecessarily complicating the interface.

Example:
Treacherous Pit-Dweller in the Avacyn Restored block is card 121 of 244 regardless of the language of the printing.

There is a thread on coming enhancements, and there will be an improved interface for better tracking of multiple versions of a card.  Not sure how language versions will be handled there, but I think we'll all love the improvements.

Well, that's reasonable, but then Inventory needs another one column (and cards - another one property): Language, it can be important in some situations.

You're making us drool, Sebi! Do you have a rough ETA in mind? Are we looking at year-end? End of first quarter 2013?

I'm trying to stop giving ETA's since we're 1.5 moths later than the last one I promised big_smile

We'll try to set up the preview server sunday/monday. It'll be a little bit buggy, but the changes are there to test and see. For the final release, I'd say up to 3 weeks, depending on how many things we find are still problematic in the next week or so.
