Notes

8/17/10---Ok...so... Added my sideboard, with changes made since then. Maindeck changes: -4 Agony Warp, -3 Soul Manipulation, -1 Liliana Vess, -2 Gatekeeper of Malakir, +2 Halimar Wavewatch, +3 Mana Leak, +4 Doom Blade, +1 Sphinx of Magosi.  Sphinx of Magosi seems fine... I didn't even see a single Boss Naya deck, let alone play against it.

8/18/10---Went to my local store today... No Vampire Nighthawks... I have a playset of Coralhelm Commanders, so I think they'll be fine since I have 5 other merfolk in the deck.  I'll still miss the lifelink, but oh well.  I'd prefer not running them since I have to level them up twice to make them immune to my Infests, but the situation could be worse...  I'll probably still be happy with it since the Halimar Wavewatches basically read, "Attack: destroy target planeswalker" against the U/W decks once they are fully leveled.

8/20/10---Decided to run with Shrivel...  The situation seems like it would be rare enough to just run Infest anyway, but I'd hate to have to kill my own Coralhelm Commanders before I get the chance to level them up so they survive infest.  I like where the deck stands now.  I have some aggressive draws that can get there, and my early blockers can quickly turn into game-ending threats if they are not dealt with.

8/20/10---Decided to keep Liliana Vess in.  Running 3 Sphinx of Magosi would be nice, but I think Soul Manipulation might do the trick instead.  Liliana Vess was good.  She forced my opponent to discard and got me ahead by allowing me to pick what I wanted to draw.  There were a whole bunch of cards I wanted in the deck that didn't make it there... Had only 3 Halimar Wavewatch, 1 Jace's Ingenuity, 2 Flashfreeze for the sideboard, no Suffer the Past, and 1 Mana Leak.  Also decided there is no need for the 3:1 split between Dispel and Spell Pierce.  Would be better to have 3 Dispel and 1 Negate.  If I had some duals that came into play untapped, I would consider playing Deprive, but it just doesn't do the job with so many ETBT lands.  I didn't miss the Hypnotic Specters.  It would have just eaten removal a lot of the time.  I don't like Jace's Ingenuity as the only card draw in the deck.  I really want more card draw in the deck, but fitting it in might be an interesting trick.  I think I can get away with relegating another Negate to the sideboard, but the rest I am unsure about.  Oh, and talk about eating my own words... the first deck I faced: Boss Naya... >.<

If I'd gotten to play the list I have, Naya probably would have been squashed easily.  I had 3 Agony Warp in hand game one.  If all of those were Doom Blade, the Knights of the Reliquary would have all died and I would have 2-0'd him, particularly since as far as I could tell, he was playing only one Seijeri Steppe.  Seemed odd, but meh... perhaps people assume you have all four and don't aim removal at the Knights of the Reliquary?

(8/20/10) Round 1: boss naya; lost 0-2.  Nice guy I keep losing to.  Round 2: random white enchantment deck that didn't draw very well.  Nice guy; won 2-0.  Round 3: R/G burn w/ Ball Lightning, Bloodbraid Elf, and other goodies.  Lost 1-2.  Total: 3-4.  Also nice guy.  Better than previous finish of 1-4-1.  Didn't get to play the list I planned on; couldn't get the cards I needed to round out the deck because I got there 15 minutes before everything started.

I hate dropping agony warp, but doom blade is just better some of the time :(

The only problem with Sphinx of Jwar Isle is that it kowtows to Baneslayer, and there are usually 3 or 4 U/W control decks there at least.  Agony Warp has been really, really good to me, and it can allow me to kill baneslayers with Vampire Nighthawks.  I might just drop Liliana Vess for another finisher, but we'll see.  Sorin's been pretty good, but he might get ousted also.  Though the Soul Manipulations are good card advantage, the deck probably needs more creatures to make them effective... 3x Mana Leak would probably be better.  Thought about throwing in a few levelers.  I'm thinking about maindecking a Marsh Casualties or Infest for the ramp and token decks... should help make my Gatekeepers less dead in that matchup.

I saw a guy playing R/B with Suffer the Past as a sideboard card against the mirror and RDW.  I did have 3 Relic of Progenitus in the sideboard, but I don't know how good they'd be since I never got to play against RDW or other graveyard-abusing decks.  Thanks for the help.

I would recommend cutting the numbers of high cost counters and removal for their low cost alternatives ie: soul manipulation -> Mana leak, agony warp -> doom blade. Also consider more threats I can barely count 5 real game winning threats. Sphinx of the Jwar Isle would likely play better than Magosi. good luck!
