    John Michael - Gonti, Lord of Luxury

    Silas - Lathril, Blade of the Elves

    Kept a hand that had 5 basic lands and Swiftfoot Boots and Phyrexian Rebirthand then it became a win. Was able to destroy Silas's board when Lathril went off and made an 11/11 horror. Unforuntately couldn't protect it and it was killed by John Michael but still felt like a great line. After that I had an indestructible Cap with Shield of Kaldra, Training Grounds, and Puresteel Paladin, allowing me to tap 1 mana and do 4 damage if wanted. The table conceded after John Michael killed the Palladin, but I still had command and claimed the win.

    Takeaways: Training Ground is an all star that changes the game. Puresteel Paladin is an Allstar that changes the game. Cards that either have that effect or find those cards are good candidates.

    This game went long, and despite that I never made it higher than 3 lands + a signet. It was frustrating.

    Cap was able to get some work done despite this, and I outlived Jade and then Silas; but I think that was just due to not at all being a threat.

    Take aways: The big problem is mana. The next game went well, and I had a lot of mana, but they were all basics. I need not only a better mana base to prevent screw, but need to keep an eye out for ramp not at all being present as well. At this time there are 7 pieces of ramp. I am hoping this is enough because I think that worst case the deck can emergency run on 5 mana (which I was just short of) but tri-lands would be great. Maybe Path of Ancestery to go with my soldier package?
