I went 2-2 at FNM with a similar build to yours. I swapped out civic sabers for Madcap and Lightning strike. I beat a Boros Burn deck and G/R monsters. I got DESTROYED by Mono Blue and missed land drops against W/G/b good stuff. I needed to curve out to have a chance against it.

Yeah, only reason for civic sabre is if your opponent kills a dude with a madcap on him before he can attack, you are kinda boned, I have 2 in the board for if they are not heavy in removal. I just really feel like this deck needs as many persistent threats as possible.

Personally, I think pain seer is not that good. It could be ok to give some reach to this archetype, but he's to clunky and small.
The phoenix is really good, but we can't depend on it to be good when we need it to be. It can definately put your opponent into a tough spot descision-wise, but I don't think it is quite there for this deck.

Have you had a chance to try Pain Seer, Flame Wreathed Phoenix at all?
I am toying with my board having Seering Blood, Toil Trouble, Pain Seer, Lifebane Zombie and Thoughtseize and Erebos

Been playing it online. I'm like 9-1 and the one loss was the green white "nothing but mythics" deck. I'm pretty impressed by it so far. Still Trying to figure out the sideboard though.

Have you played many games with this deck? How has it been working out? I am building something very similar.
