I feel like youd want some Consuming Aberration in this bitch. Its only requirement to being awesome is existing :)
  • Greg DeSimone | Edited 09-Jul-2014 13:29
Get that birds of paradise outta there.

speaking from my own experience, the 1 life loss from creatures leaving the battlefield is probably not the way to go, although i didn't really try any sort of token strategy.

auto includes in a vela the night clad deck:
Tombstone stairwell - say you have 5 creatures in your graveyard, at the end of each players turn, each opponent will lose 5 life.
rite of replication - a kicked RoR on your vela will net you 30 damage to each opponent (5 velas enter the battlefield at once, then, since they are all legendary 5 velas die. 6 velas on the battlefield means that you get 5 x 6 = 30 triggers for life loss)

you seem like someone that would want to attack with hard to block creatures though.

I would suggest stuff that does stuff when it hits, like ashling, the extinguisher, Ink-eyes, servant of oni, throat slitter, (other ninjas), Liliana's reaver, scythe specter, cephalid constable, dimir cutpurse, diviner spirit, doomsday specter, ebonblade reaper, ghastlord of fugue, lord of the void, mindleech mass, guiltfeeder, scalpelexis (lol), necropolis regent, shadowmage infiltrator, shimian specter, shoreline salvager, stealer of secrets, sturmgeist, thada adel, acquisitor, thassa's emissary, wrexial, the risen deep, fireshrieker, grappling hook, quietus spike, mask of memory, mask of riddles (these are all good inclusions)

its important to keep key control pieces like board wipes and counterspells because otherwise all your dinky dudes that draw you cards are just drawing more cards.

Disregard my posts, Greg's way is the way to go. You still need more mana ramp regardless. Try to improve your mana curve if possible, you have alot of high cmc stuff. I know you like your infinite life gain/damage combo but I think you'd be better served replacing those cards with less expensive cmc cards that play off of your attacking theme. Just about every creature Greg has listed is going to do more for you than your enchantments. Once 1 of those hits the board every player is going to come at you and no one else. The odds of both of those enchantments hitting the board and sticking for more than a second are slim to none.
      • Greg DeSimone | 09-Jul-2014 20:02
if you do end up keeping your combo pieces, you should keep your tutors like beseech the queen, diabolic tutor, and diabolic collusion. If you ditch it, the tutors are going to need to go too. it's better to get two random cards with a divination then one card that has a mediocre impact with a tutor.

as for good ramp cards for UB:
        armillary sphere
        wayfarer's bauble
        darksteel ingot
(burnished hart, dreamscape artist, dimir signet you have, those are good)

sometimes throwing in board wipes like mutilate/evacuation are almost like a ramp spell. it stalls the board for long enough for you to get out lands. I can't count how many times recasting my own kederekt leviathan has saved me from lethal damage the next turn

You need more creatures that have enter/leaves the battlefield effects. You have too much vanilla crowding up your creatrue base. |[U]+![W]+![R]+![G]&type=+[creature]&text=+[when]+[enters]+[the]+[battlefield] ]http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&color=|[B]|[U]+![W]+![R]+![G]&type=+[creature]&text=+[when]+[enters]+[the]+[battlefield][/battlefield][/the][/enters][/when][/creature][/G][/R][/W][/U][/B][/battlefield][/the][/enters][/when][/creature][/G][/R][/W][/U] and |[U]+![W]+![R]+![G]&type=+[creature]&text=+[when]+[the]+[battlefield]+[leaves]]http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&color=|[B]|[U]+![W]+![R]+![G]&type=+[creature]&text=+[when]+[the]+[battlefield]+[leaves][/leaves][/battlefield][/the][/when][/creature][/G][/R][/W][/U][/B][/leaves][/battlefield][/the][/when][/creature][/G][/R][/W][/U] are 2 good lists to go thru. Evacuation and Devastation Tide would be good here. Listen to Bilzor and add RAMP. You will be sitting there doing nothing waiting 13 turns hoping on one of your bombs.

Your creatures with inspire are going to struggle here. Currently, the only way you have to tap them is to attack. I'd suggest adding something like Paradise Mantle so you can tap them for good use and not have them die via combat. Either that or cut them for something better, especially the Aerie Worshippers. Way too expensive for what it does.
      • xwaynestaticx03 | 09-Jul-2014 13:31
I forgot about the intimidate ability of your commander so the attacking inspire creatures aren't as janky. I like the tutor guy but I'd still cut the aerie worshipers.
  • ivanthehungrier | Edited 08-Jul-2014 22:37
Magic decks can really only do 1 thing well. Vela is interesting bc she offers you 2 roads to walk down. Intimidate is a powerful ability; A creature with intimidate can’t be blocked except by artifact creatures and/or creatures that share a color with it. This lends itself to cards like Rootwater ThiefWicked Akuba(active multiple times!!)/ Raven Guild Master and any colorless creature will be virtually unblockable. Ninjutsu is an ability from Kamagawa that you could have some fun with.

If you really like the token idea, go for it! There could be some potential there. I just think youll find more success with intimidate. GL!

I've never noticed that acuba doesn't say combat damage.  Viridian Longbow or Livewire Lash could get out of control late game.
      • ivanthehungrier | 10-Jul-2014 05:59
Yeah I guess I always thought combat bc its the most obvious. Cool idea!!

  • Your Mother | 08-Jul-2014 21:26
Am I on percocet or does Circu, Dimir Lobotomist make no sense in a 1-of-each deck.
    • ivanthehungrier | 08-Jul-2014 22:39
      Hah, educate your boy!
