Notes
2018-01-06
- All is Dust
- Recurring Insight
+ Cyclonic Rift
+ Time Warp
Can't easily break parity on All is Dust and needed to find a slot for rift. Insight proved a bit expensive, added Time Warp as an alternate wincon / value play with Riku.
2018-02-16
- Bonfire of the Damned
+ Comet Storm
- Stunt Double
+ Peregrine Drake
Bonfire couldn't take out the entire table without Riku's help, flexibility of Comet Storm gets the nod alongside an infinite combo piece.
2018-02-24
- Flameshadow Conjuring
+ Sneak Attack
Strict upgrade now I have a Sneak Attack.
2018-03-04
- Clever Impersonator
- Trinket Mage
- Lightning Greaves
+ Phantasmal Image
+ Fabricate
+ Cloudstone Curio
Straight swap for a better clone that goes infinite with the Drake and a bounce enabler: Sabertooth or the newly added Curio, along with a way to search for the CMC>1 artifacts in the deck.
- 2 Forest
- 2 Mountain
+ Kessig Wolf Run
+ Boseiju, Who Shelters All
+ Path of Ancestry
+ Shivan Reef
Protection and another outlet for infinite mana, along with fixing improvements.
2018-03-06
- Perilous Vault
+ Blasphemous Act
- Bane of Progress
+ Glen Elendra Archmage
Couldn't break the symmetry on Vault, and Act is significantly cheaper. Bane of progress ended up hurting me too often, and the Archmage both provides combo protection and opens up some pod lines.
2018-05-12
- Dualcaster Mage
- Twinflame
- Cackling Counterpart
- Rite of Replication
- Ghostly Flicker
+ Flash
+ Protean Hulk
+ Scorched Rusalka
+ Pact of Negation
+ Swan Song
Dropped the Dualcaster combo for a flash hulk package and some additional protection.
- Mulldrifter
- Krosan Grip
- Explosive Vegetation
- Ranger's Path
- Conjurer's Closet
+ Trinket Mage
+ Chrome Mox
+ Fierce Empath
+ Imperial Recruiter
+ Summoner's Pact
Removed some generic value cards, and non-creature ramp for cheaper ramp and more tutors.
- Temple of Abandon
- Temple of Epiphany
- Temple of Mystery
+ Hinterland Harbour
+ Cascade Bluffs
+ Flooded Grove
Straight upgrades for colour fixing.
2018-06-20
- Breaching Hippocamp
+ Deceiver Exarch
- Rampant Growth
- Harrow
+ Nature's Lore
+ Skyshroud Claim
- Greenwarden of Murasa
- Song of the Dryads
+ Phyrexian Revoker
+ Spellseeker
Exarch untapping pod seems better than having a 4 CMC untapper for pod lines. Better ramp spells, another tutor, and Revoker as easy to find interaction.
2019-02-11
- Archeomancer
- Season's Past
+ Noxious Revival
+ Reality Shift
Archeomancer always feels rough, and keeping it in for Time Warp loops isn't enough. Seasons' Past has proved to be too expensive, so replacing both with cheaper interaction instead.
2019-07-09
- Scorched Rusalka
- Fact or Fiction
- Island
- 2 Forest
+ Sylvan Safekeeper
+ Bramble Sovereign
+ Finale of Devastation
+ Neoform
+ Waterlogged Grove
Scorched Rusalka was only in for Hulk lines, and I've since found better, which can utilise Safekeeper + Dryad Arbor for protection. Bramble Sovereign enables more Hulk lines, FoF swapped out for more straight tutors in Finale and Neoform, and the deck can handle dropping to 34 lands with the new horizon lands adding more fixing.
2019-08-16
- Sylvan Library
+ Survival of the Fittest
Library is a great card, but the deck has no way to tutor enchantments, and survival makes up for that by being totally busted.
2019-10-01
- Duplicant
+ Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre
Duplicant is not very mana efficient for removing a creature, and most of the time Inferno Titan can do the job just as well, if not better, while also being a wincon if copied enough times. Ulamog is hardly more mana efficient at nearly twice the cost, but with Survival it enables shuffling any key cards in the graveyard back into the library at will.
03-10-2019:
- Zealous Conscripts
+ Corridor Monitor
Without Conscripts the deck can no longer win with just Pod + Archmage, but Monitor makes up for that by being found by more tutors (Recruiter + Fabricate) and is much cheaper to hardcast, while still being able to untap pod.
2019-11-25:
- Acidic Slime
- Kessig Wolf Run
+ Ixidron
+ Alchemist's Refuge
Slime wasn't impactful enough at 5 mana, so swapped it for another 5 drop which acts as a psuedo-wrath. Wolf run was the decks worst infinite mana outlet, and didn't provide much value outside of that, so swapping it for something with more utility.
2020-02-19:
- Sakura-Tribe Elder
+ Dockside Extortionist
- Skyshroud Claim
+ Muddle the Mixture
Both two-mana ramp dorks, but one is a little more explosive than the other, given the right circumstances. Four mana ramp that actually costs two doesn't help early game, and muddle is a 'uncounterable' tutor for several key cards, as well as protection if necessary. Notably, muddle is a tutor for Survival, and it itself can be tutored by Spellseeker and Mystical.
2020-03-21:
- Time Warp
+ Walking Ballista
Infinite turns isn't so much a win condition as a way to find one of the other win conditions, Warp is also a bit expensive to hardcast and it's rarely that beneficial outside the combo (which is expensive and difficult to assemble). Ballista is another infinite mana outlet, but can be fetched with the creature and artifact tutors and has utility outside of the combo.
2020-03-21:
- Tooth and Nail
+ Weird Harvest
Tooth and Nail was the quintessential "I win" card, but 9 mana is asking a lot, and weird harvest is both cheaper (to the point where Spellseeker can find it) and more flexible. The symmetry is irrelevant if I'm winning anyway (frilled mystics aside), and could be fun as a political tool in some scenarios.
Planned:
- Island
+ Fiery Islet
Card draw is always good, doubly so when stapled to a land.
- All is Dust
- Recurring Insight
+ Cyclonic Rift
+ Time Warp
Can't easily break parity on All is Dust and needed to find a slot for rift. Insight proved a bit expensive, added Time Warp as an alternate wincon / value play with Riku.
