Notes

The plan? Just play the best creature at every point in the mana curve. This version doesn't play cards like
Giant Growth
or
Titanic Growth
, unlike previous versions of the deck. By running more creatures, you are that much more likely to curve out properly. Even though
Pelt Collector
is the only true one-drop creature, both
Stonecoil Serpent
and
Lovestruck Beast
allow you to have a one-mana threat as well, so the deck starts creating its board presence on the first turn in many games.

On turn two we have the difficult-to-answer
Barkhide Troll
, as well as the new pickup for this deck from M21,
Scavenging Ooze
. The Ooze often comes down on a later turn and eats up some creatures to become a larger threat. This is the type of card that can be a game-changer against other creature decks.

I asked Corey why there are only two copies of
Gemrazer
in the maindeck, just because of how amazing the card can be. He seemed to want the best possible configuration of the deck against Bant Ramp, which doesn't run artifacts and enchantments. However, you definitely want four copies of
Gemrazer
in the 75, as there are many matchups where it's your best card. Blowing up an opposing artifact or enchantment is only a part of why this is so strong. It allows you to make a huge hexproof creature alongside
Barkhide Troll
, or create a massive
Stonecoil Serpent
, since you keep the counters on the creature after mutating.

Questing BeastThe Great HengeVivien, Arkbow Ranger

When the top end of your deck is three or four mana, you know it's an aggro deck. We have some really beefy threats in
Questing Beast
,
Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig
and
Vivien, Arkbow Ranger
. However, one thing that stands out in this list are the two copies of
The Great Henge
. Corey is ready to play a longer, grindy game against other creature decks if he needs to, all thanks to this card.

After sideboard we even have three copies of
Oakhame Adversary
, making it even more clear that we're looking to gain an edge in the mirror match. This deck doesn't play that much creature removal, but as is typical in green, you have fight effects in
Ram Through
and
Vivien, Arkbow Ranger
to get opposing creatures off the board.
Garruk, Unleashed
and
Shifting Ceratops
round out the sideboard against the slower matchups.
