The other half of the trade should either send you your cards back, or give you 30$ in cash or cards. I don't understand why 15$ is a fair loss at all. You are responsible for the other side receiving the cards.

PS: What is the the reputation of the other party?

The other party's reputation should come into play before the trade is agreed upon.  In this case (if you review the earlier messages), they have some information showing that the package was shipped.  The problem is that it appears to have been lost by the carrier.  In other words, there is proof of shipping, but no proof of delivery.

It is possible that the package may yet be delivered.  I've had packages with delivery confirmation that list the departure point, a point in between, and then the delivery point--it's pretty clear that not every point was listed.  If the missing package's sender has the time and inclination, s/he could check with the last documented point along the package's path, to learn where it was headed next.  That's the next place I'd call to find out if they have any damaged packages that match the description of the missing one.

On a related note, since I know discussion around this topic will eventually turn to feedback, let me suggest a few points.

1. Since there is proof that the package was shipped (though not received), I would not give the sender negative feedback just based on non-receipt of the package.  S/he may be responsible for his/her half of the trade, but the carrier's loss of the package should not further negatively impact that trader's reputation score.

2. I would consider how the situation is ultimately resolved (e.g., how well the other party makes good on his/her half of the trade).  If an agreeable solution is reached, I would give positive feedback, with some notes about the cirucmstances of the trade.

3. I would only leave negative feedback it the other party is non-communicative, or unwilling to resolve the trade amicably.

Splitting costs effectively penalizes the OP unfairly - they did everything correctly, the cards arrived safely and in a timely manner.  The cards should be returned - it is the responsibility of the sender to ensure their cards arrive at the destination.

This (returning the cards from the other side of the trade) would be the least expensive option for resolving the issue. I would certainly insure any return shipment, just in case the same thing happens again.

If he can prove to you that the tracking # for the package that can't be found was addressed to you, I feel it's not his fault.  The USPS will lose packages, it's just part of the risks of trading online.  I don't think it's fair for him to pay an extra $30 to you because the USPS lost the package.  I think it's fair for you two to split the loss.

That's why tracking information is not enough--you need delivery confirmation to prove delivery.  In any business, if a store ships something but the customer never gets it, the store is on the hook for reshipping or refunding unless they can prove delivery.

I have to disagree with the others on this one. Maybe it's because I'm from MTGS but I tend to follow the policy that it is the sender's responsibility to make sure their package gets to the destination therefore I would still put it on the other trader to send equal value, the cards back or wait longer for the lost cards. It does sound douchey but it's a policy that seems pretty fair.

I agree. That's the reason I always send with delivery confirmation (and, if the value is high enough, insurance).  Site policy is clear: each trader is responsible for proving DELIVERY to the recipient.  If the carrier loses a package, the sender should take it up with the carrier.  The intended recipient has clean hands.

I am one of those who am picky about value propositions.   I fault no one who wants to stick to 1:1 trades.  I just look at it differently.  If those value cards were as easy to come by as bulk commons and uncommons (and some rares), they wouldn't carry a premium price tag at all. It's not that I'm trying to play it like an investment (though I'm sure there are some who do)--I'm just trying to get stuff on my wish list.

The values of cards are not fixed like currency (where one $10 bill is always worth ten $1 bills)--they fluctuate (like changes between currencies).  Some cards may see pretty big fluctuations (high values early in a release cycle, and dropping when a set leaves standard), but many will retain their general value over their lifetime (unless something significant happens that affects their playablity). A few cards will see their value increase over time.  Most bulk commons and uncommons (and even some rares) have low values and will keep their low values over their lifetime.

The values used here (and on other sites) represent the prices one might expect to pay if buying the cards for funds.  I find that I could purchase most of the sub-$1 cards at my LGS for $0.10 each (or less, when buying bulk lots).  Of course, there's opportunity cost there, because I need to sort through their boxes and stacks, but that's just the way it is.

I find I don't restrict myself to 1:1 trades here or in real life.  If someone has a card I really want, I will generally offer more than the list value of the card.  How much more I offer depends on two things: 1) how much I want the card, and 2) how much the person with the card is inclined to keep it.  I'f I really wanted a Cavern of souls for example, I might well offer $30 or more in trade value if I was looking to have it right away.  In such a situation, however, I generally wouldn't offer a single $30 card for the Cavern. I'd try offering three $10 cards.  Why? Because it will likely take me much more time (and, potentially, money) to replace that $30 card than it will take to replace those individual $10 cards.

Why do most people oppose trade downs? Because they see such offers as bunches of cards that are relatively easy to get being offered in trade for something that is difficult to get.  To me, that's the primary reason to request additional value in a trade down (or to offer additional value when trying to trade up): because a bunch of relatively easy to get cards are being offered for a hard to get card.  It's about opportunity cost, and the subjective value each trader places on his or her cards.

Per the subject line, I have a Foil Rakdos, Lord of Riots.  I'd like to trade for non-foil copies, possibly other cards.  The value of the card at SCG and other sites is around $20.

Shoot me your offers...

I misread your subject line--it started with a P and ended with an O, but it wasn't promo.  LOL! I knew there were some altered art cards out there, but I wasn't ready for that one! I'm still laughing!!!

Anyone looked at picking up any of these?

2012 Holiday Gift Box

While initial information was sketchy, the DailyMTG Twitter feed notes that the boxes should hold sleeved cards.

I've pre-ordered four (one for me, and one each for three of my boys who play--for under $17 at CoolStuffInc.com, by the way).  Anyone else thinking about picking up these? Would it be worth picking up another one, for future sale or trade?

Not sure what browser you are using.  I was having problems using IE, so I switched to Chrome.

Could you make it possible to add cards using foreign languages? It makes quite a barrier to use deckbox without knowing all translations. Also adding particular name would allow to autopick card language.

Or is there a way to convert a list of non-English card names into English?

I think an easier way to overcome the language barrier would be to add the ability to add cards by the card number (printed on all cards saved for the earliest releases).  I'm not sure if that is planned, but it would be a good feature to add.

Anything in your inventory for trade? Mainly your thundermaw and thratusk

No, sorry.  My tradelist is current, as is my wishlist.

Now that I have some Hallowed Fountain available for trade, I'm hoping to pick up some of the higher value cards I'm currently lacking.

I'm also going to be entertaining offers from players at my LGS this weekend, so make your best offer early if you want to be sure to get one (or more).  ;-)

Anyone notice the demand for Searing Spear is going up? The average value through TCGplayer is still listed at $0.20, Star City Games is selling at $0.49, and some players at my LGS have offered up to $1 to get one right before an event.  Anyone else notice this? I'm guessing it is because Pillar of Flame rotated out...

Aside from collecting MTG, I'm also a Heroscape collector.  I have a number of sealed Master Set 2 (Swarm of the Marro), a few of the Marvel starter set, and (if memory serves correctly) one of the D&D themed set (Underdark).  In addition, I have loads of spare figures from the first master set, plenty of dice packs, turn counters, and manuals.  I also have terrain tiles from at least six master sets and other expansions, and may be willing to part with some terrain pieces.

I value the Marvel set at $50, and the Master Set 2 at $80 (based on completed listings on Ebay), but am open to all reasonable offers.  If interested in other items let me know.
What am I looking for? Cards in my wishlist with values near $10 and up. Quantities are listed below so you can see if I'm looking for more than one of a card.

4    Jace, Architect of Thought
4    Bonfire of the Damned
4    Geist of Saint Traft

INTERNATIONAL TRADERS - I'm willing to consider international trades, however, since the cost of shipping the game boxes will be significantly higher than shipping a bubble mailer with cards, I'd expect to see additional value in the proposals. I can pull a shipping estimate if you are interested.  I require insurance to ship to Spain or Italy (an additional $15 or so).  For other countries, I recommend we negotiate a value that will include insurance.

I also like the idea of neutral feedback, or no feedback being considered neutral.

Ebay uses a similar system.  It lets users see what percentage of feedback was positive or negative.

To me, the "+10, -1" example presented by Sebi is a good start, but if we are going to have neutral feedback, I'd also want to know that number too.  Not necessarily as another number showing feedback ("+10, 3, -1"), but simply as the total number of completed trades (e.g., "14 trades, +10, -1) or as the percent of trades with positive feedback.  Given two people with a feedback score of "+10, -1", trading with someone with that score out of 15 trades is much less a risk than someone with the same feedback score and 30 completed trades (showing that half of the transactions were neutral).

Then, of course, there's a big difference between someone who has one negative feedback out of five trades than someone who has one negative feedback out of 500 trades.  I might avoid trading in the first example, but would have no qualms about trading in the second.

I believe most users would like to be able to review the reasons listed for feedback (negative or positive).  Looking at lessons learned by Ebay, however, we might find that traders may eventually want another field that will let them respond to any negative feedback that was left.

Example:
Trader A leaves a rating of -1, with a Reason/Comment that reads "Lousy trader. Sent me the wrong cards."
Trader B, who received negative feedback, posts a Rebuttal/Reply: "User received all cards in the trade proposal.  He wanted specific editions, but did not state that in the trade proposal.  I sent all M10 cards, but, after receiving the cards, Trader A indicated he wanted only M12 cards.

I wonder if it is due to them being true dual lands (e.g., swamp forest).  Perhaps the system is counting them as a basic land subtype, rather than as unique lands.
