I think Jace 4.0 is alright.  I think there will be other things in Izzet's colors that will work with him, as I can't see where Wizards would make their favorite son totally irrelevant.  I can still see where his ultimate is a game winner, but you need to have something BIG to drop with it.  My first thought was Omniscience, but I can definitely see where you could toss in others like Avacyn, Griselbrand, Stormtide Leviathan, or even game winning spells.

I REALLY like Chromatic Lantern.  The fact it will remove/reduce much of the need to drop a lot of money for all those duals is nice.  Add in the fact it fixes those situations where all you're drawing is one color when all you need is the other... yeah.  It also makes Door to Nothingness potentially standard playable (go figure).

I'm also thinking Hypersonic Dragon will see some play.  I could see where it pairs with Worldfire as it can be played on the stack like an instant, letting you hit the opponent for one, stack Worldfire so it will resolve first, and thanks for the game.

I'm looking forward to pairing Jace 4.0 with an Omniscience in my deck.  Get him to his ultimate and it's a free Omniscience and the best card in their deck.  Can't lose there.  I will admit his +1 and -2 are pretty weak though.  And man, I do wish they'd knocked one off so he wasn't clogging up the already crowded 4-drop in blue.

Hrm.... not sure how we could/should add those here... any thought on what you want to use as a placeholder?  I can put a note at the bottom to denote what the placeholders are.

I'm with imsully on Detain as being weak relative to the other mechanics thus far.  I mean have you seen overload?  Not only has Mizzium Mortars made Searing Spear completely worthless, but the fact that either it or Street Spasm can produce Bonfire of the Damned results for just a few more mana... include Goblin Electromancer to reduce the cost of those spells, and you can see where an entire deck of Bonfire effects isn't too far off (although they likely made overload to control the demand for bonfires).

The season of spoilers is upon us.

Is it just me or are some of these just SICK?

I've tacked on 2x Predatory Rampage to give all those ooze and wolf tokens some added bite.

What's next?  We're only 5-6 cards from getting to the narrowing down phase, then to the mana... although, looking at the leaked RTR cards, just about all the strategies people are used to running are about to get blown to hell... hah.

For anyone who wants a good look at what's coming:

Wait until you have everything from their side.  The delay can be a lesson for them to pay attention to trade details, lest they screw one up with someone less patient than you.

I guess I'll go again, since we've been sitting for 24 hours.

I've added 3x Altar's Reap to give us some added sacking (to feed the grime!) while also helping to draw.

Everyone is on deck... what's next?

So I was looking at the RTR cards spoiled as part of the Izzet vs. Golgari duel decks and realized it will soon be possible to "break" Talrand.

I've put the deck together on Tappedout this time as Goblin Electromancer and Street Spasm have yet to be added to Deckbox (I'm NOT complaining, Sebi has enough on his plate).  You can view the deck here:  http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/talrand-izz-broken/

The plays here, as I see them, are to setup the majority of the spells using Goblin Electromancer. Reducing the cost of instants and sorceries really opens up a lot of options, allowing you to actually untap two lands with Rewind, rock Negate/Essence Scatter/or even Searing Spear for one each. Two electromancers also provide Ghostly Flicker for free (if you target the Island you tapped) or even can make the overcharge cost of Street Spasm easier, at two red for a one point hit.

You're probably wondering where the infinite combo is, given that I said Talrand, Sky Summoner is about to be broken. Well, 2x Goblin Electromancer, when paired with Talrand, Sky Summoner, Ghostly Flicker, and Archaeomancer equals infinite drakes. Once all the creatures are on the board, you flicker the Archaeomancer and the Island you used to cast it. The spell resolves, producing a drake and going to the graveyard. Then Archaeomancer and the Island return to play, so the ETB from the Archaeomancer can target the Ghostly Flicker to bring it back into your hand. The Island re-enters play untapped, so you simply cast the flicker again, and get another drake. Rinse, repeat.

I'm looking to keep this post-rotation ready as I could see this being 1) a lot of fun to play, 2) really cool if you pull off the combo explained above. I'll be playing FNMs, but I'm not looking to win the world cup with it, so I'm looking to keep this in a realistic price range, so 4x Bonfire of the Damned isn't an option.

Note that Jace, Memory Adept could just as easily be swapped with the new Jace depending on what he turns out to be.

I know it's a pain to go to the other site to look at it, but I trust the feedback I get from you guys more than the random person here or there from Tappedout.

And let's keep the Build-Pass-Build deck going!

Thanks!

I think we were going to leave the land for the end, and determine then what we needed.

This is spot on.  I can envision numerous special lands, but we'll get there once we know what is/isn't going in the deck.  Again, we're going to repeat this process until we're at 50 cards, and then work to narrow down/drop ideas.  Then we'll figure out the land.

The undying being limited to non-token creatures is fine, as Gutter Grime only triggers when non-token creatures die anyway.

All the current turns have been input.

So we can add something like Mikaeus, the Unhallowed (when it gets back to my turn) for the undying for all the creatures, but I can see where Gutter Grime getting picked off would be a big problem.  How could we protect it?

Nobody has made that move yet.  He said 4x Arbor Elf.  Note the rules of the game at the top of the post.

We may yet make the change... but imsully said Arbor Elf for the moment, so that's what we're running for now.

Given that Wolfir Silverheart is the top of your curve, I wouldn't worry too much about ramping.

Rather, I'd say to focus in a bit more on the infect creatures.  Why have the same number of Glistener Elf as Young Wolf?  The same can be said for the Strangleroot Geists, although I would leave them be.  Make sure you have 4x of as many infect options as possible.

Since you're running Mirrodin Block stuff, why no Contagion Clasp or Contagion Engine?

Also, I would say something like Lure would be nice to ensure that your infect creatures get through.  It's legal pre-rotation.

I would drop Joint Assault as you really only have Silverheart to do any soul-bonding, and you could easily fit Increasing Savagery for more pumping, more Hunger of the Howlpack, or even Prey  Upon to help with some of those pesky blockers your opponent has.

I'd suggest replacing Reclaim with Revive.  They might cost one more, but the difference between getting that card in your hand versus on the top of your library makes a lot of difference.

I would also add at least one more Wild Defiance.

I hope that helps...

It appears we're on to round two, so everyone will get another pick.

I just added 3x Killing Wave as that could feed Gutter Grime while also clearing out the opponent's creatures.

If you're looking for responses I'd guess it would be a good idea to start a new thread rather than just editing the title of one that is almost three pages long... just a thought.

BTW - the configuration I use lets me ship up to 24 cards and still be under 3 oz.:
4x7" bubble mailer
Thin piece of cardboard (e.g., back of a blister pack for headphones) to keep the flat stiff (for those sticklers at the post office)
Two top loaders (not the uber-flat ones, but not the super thick ones, either)
One sheet of notebook paper (wraps the top loaders/card "sandwich" so they don't get gummy with tape, or get loose)
One small piece of tape (keeps the paper wrap shut/tight)
24 MTG cards (sleeved, mostly in penny sleeves)
PayPal printed shipping label
Packing tape on all four sides of the shipping label

HikingStick has this down to a science... man

I say just regular standard for now, don't worry about rotation.  If the spoilers are any indication, it's going to be a really dramatically altered landscape when RTR hits.
